Not a bad book, outdated and makes a mediocre attempt at being a systematic textbook for Christian Counselors. There are some really important reminders in each page but as a theology application for Counseling I found it lacking in depth and breadth.

A great book that goes into a very biblical way of counseling and people helping. Took me through some basic biblical theology and thoughts on spiritual forces in problems that was very useful!

I read this as a textbook for a graduate degree class - Biblical Theology of Counseling. Collins shows how our theology directly impacts how we understand who God is, the purpose of creation, what is right and wrong, the nature of human beings, and how to best help them. He highlights some of the basic doctrines of the Bible and shows how they can be the lens through which we see our own lives and those who have come to us for help. It was a textbook on how to apply biblical teachings to counseling. While I learned a lot, I also struggled to understand a good portion of the book since at times it felt as if it was written for those with a greater understanding of how the world works, with a superior vocabulary. I do think I'm intelligent but I didn't feel that way when reading this. It was a textbook on how to apply biblical teachings to counseling.
