Note: I read this as two separate editions, but it appears they only are on Goodreads in the combined form. I have a soft spot for Epic Mickey the game; although the controls weren't great, the sheer imagination and world-building done was exceptional. I was glad to see these graphic novel versions made available for people who don't have the patience or skill to play through the games, so that they can still experience the story. I have a soft spot for Epic Mickey the game; although the controls weren't great, the sheer imagination and world-building done was exceptional. I was glad to see these graphic novel versions made available for people who don't have the patience or skill to play through the games, so that they can still experience the story. Basically, Mickey inadvertently caused a catastrophe in a world called the Wasteland while young, and later gets pulled into the world, where he must confront his predecessor Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, and ultimately work with him to restore the Wasteland using paint and thinner as his tools. The book does a pretty good job hitting the main plot points of the game without getting too embroiled in the details. And the artwork does a good job of capturing the game as well, and even expands on the finale a bit to make it more touching. And then there's Epic Mickey 2. I detested Epic Mickey 2 as a game. It squandered pretty much everything good about the first game and made practically no sense at all. And the singing, while a decent idea in theory, never reached a level of quality to justify itself. The novelization is hampered by the nonsensical story, and suffers in comparison to the first half mainly due to the constraints of its source material. Peter David does his best to make a coherent story, but doesn't quite pull it off. The art is still good, and there are a couple of small jokes that work, but ultimately this volume felt like a trial to get through (at least it doesn't take the reader the 10-12 hours the game did, though). So 4 stars for the first volume and 2 stars for the second volume averages out to 3 stars. If you had any interest in the games but didn't play them, this makes for a fairly suitable replacement, especially for Epic Mickey 2. For people who did play the games, this is a nice refresher for them.

I couldn't really get into this at all. I didn't enjoy the art or story. I couldn't really get into this at all. I didn't enjoy the art or story.

Pretty good story! I haven't played the video game yet, but this graphic novel makes me want to play it a little bit more. Pretty good story! I haven't played the video game yet, but this graphic novel makes me want to play it a little bit more.

Peccato per la trama, altrimenti i splendidi disegni di questo volume gli avrebbero fatto meritare 5 stelle.
