    Dieting is extremely hard when everything you like is offlimit, and when you LOVE to cook and enjoy a yummy meal. Dr. Mike is trying to tell us that it shouldn't be a torture. But as I read his recipes last night, some sounded reasonable, others not so much. I can hardly find some of the things he adds in his recipes here, I want normal things, like normal milk and vegetables without the weird names. I goggled a lot of them last night. If I follow this plan I'll have to do a LOT of substituting. Dieting is extremely hard when everything you like is offlimit, and when you LOVE to cook and enjoy a yummy meal.     I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads. Things I Like: 1. Daily Menu Plans - made it easy to shop/plan, etc. 2. Low-carb but fruit & dairy allowed. 3. In general, good way to train yourself to make more healthful choices. Things I Don't Like: 1. Recipes are simple & not very inspiring. Nothing stands out as especially delicious. 2. Dinner recipes are for 4 servings & difficult to divide (i.e., 1/4 c.). This leads to lots of leftovers & they don't turn up in the menu plans for weeks I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads. Things I Like: 1.     I am not sure if I am interested in the meals provided in this book; yet the cycles 1-4 was interesting and willing to try this month to see how it works. 17 days per cycle. I took notes and will give it a try! 4/30/12 detoxed for several days. Then tried a "transitional diet" 5/9/12 until 6/30/12 and was unsuccessful. It expects you to give up breads, pastas, sugar/sweets, coffee, soda, and red meat entirely. I was a girl who loved rice/potatoes for example. Do not really eat red meat except for I am not sure if I am interested in the meals provided in this book; yet the cycles 1-4 was interesting and willing to try this month to see how it works. 17 days per cycle. Therefore, a woman at church was losing like 30 lbs in 30-40 days, and she was doing something similar but with this book is just the first 17 days of the first cycle, by cycle 3 can reintroduce foods, and cycle 4 able to splurge or eat favorite foods on the weekends! Now this seems like something I can live with. Will try 7/3/12 until 7/20/12 (right around the time of a family reunion. I hope second cycle allows some foods again...will check notes).

    It has a couple of really useful low calorie dishes that are worth trying regardless of the diet but the 17 day diet is very much doable without the cookbook. It's just another collection of recipes nothing fancy or attractive. Oh and if you really eat the amount specified from these dishes for every meal, no way you will lose weight.     I have some friends trying this diet, and I wanted to see what receipes were in it. Pretty simple and easy. Most of this stuff I already make, but if you are looking for ideas it's good for inspiration. Again, VERY simple receipes.
