Very handy and comprehensive for children's books up to age 12 with a smattering of very popular YA series (Inheritance, Hunger Games). The short sections on specialty formats (pop-ups, etc), poetry, and mythology/fairy tales were very nice. I would have liked a small section on more YA guidance since this is a book more for parents - those who have children reading above grade level often need an extra hand - but overall a very good reference for children's books published through 2012. What a great book. I was so excited when this one came in to the store. It is simply the perfect go to gift for new parents, new grandparents, media specialists or new teachers. The perfect combination of information coupled with famous author essays. I found the mixture of classic stories from my childhood with more modern children's books informative. I found myself thinking of fond childhood memories and dreaming up new ones to have with the little ones in my life. I thought it was the perfec What a great book. Definitely worth buying for anyone who purchases lots of kids books, and a must-have for libraries, day cares, teachers, & bookstores. I couldn't think of any childhood favorites that weren't included or any age/stage recommendations I really disagreed with! The essays by famous authors helped it from being as dry as it could easily have been given the subject matter! *i got a free copy to review on my blog. But I didn't have to review it here.
