A strong first in a series. M.D. Grayson writes a good police procedural with a few delightful devious twists. The One that PI Danny Logan let get away. And the heiress is missing. Why? Logan PI Associates know that there are three reasons. One: Kidnapping. Two: Random Abduction. Three: Voluntary Absence. There's been no ransom demand. A serial killer has been hunting every summer in the Seattle Area. And a Mexican Cartel and Gina's Mobster Chicago family members are inquiring into the beauty's whereabouts. What on Earth has Gina Fiore gotten herself into? And can Danny Logan and his associates find her alive?

I sorta figured where it was going early on, but still, getting to the predicted end was still worth the journey to get there. starting on the 2nd book right now - $2.99, people!

Why, Amazon.ca? Why did you recommend this book to me? Yes, I like fast-paced mysteries that I can read in a day and then toss aside. But give me some credit, please. This book is just nonsense. Danny Logan is a young man of ridiculous accomplishments and movie-star good looks, who heads up a PI agency that includes not just the amazingly attractive and utterly brilliant female side-kick, but also (you will be shocked) a weaselly tech guy, an older fount of universal wisdom, and (I am not joking) a strong-but-silent Native American. Not that this blunt effort at characterization really matters. Because every single character in this book, no matter what their gender, age, ethnicity or level of education, talks in perfect paragraphs. Maybe the low-class Mexicans will through in a couple of Spanish swear words, for authenticity. But there is nothing approaching real dialogue in the entire novel. Because the dialogue is so ridiculous, there isn't much need for any other narration. And yet there is other narration, so much of it, and so full of adverbs that it just becomes funny. At one point, a Prius "glides silently." As opposed to gliding with a loud clatter? This probably sounds like a snobby nit-pick, but it's one of so many examples of bad writing that I can't get past it. Finally, there is the plot. The basic premise is set up and then unwound well enough. But to get through it, we have to believe that this PI firm is a group of well-respected professionals who have untold expertise in missing persons, and yet act as though every single thing they do is something they are doing for the first time. They are shocked - shocked! - to discover that there are many registered sex offenders living amongst them. They are amazed when they are able to access information from cell phone records. And they are basically floored to discover that you can actually get information about public court proceedings. Sorry, Amazon.ca. It will take a while before I can trust you again.

M. D. Grayson paints a very convincing Seattle with its weather, history, streets, and people as Danny Logan and his associates—the foundation of a new mystery series—look into the sudden disappearance of Logan’s one-time girlfriend, now up-and-coming executive. Romantic tension between Logan and his investigating partner, Toni Blair, has a pleasingly honest feel—played for the story, not to raise false expectations. And there’s a gritty, well-researched and well-explained reality to the methods and techniques of police work, Swat teams, army and civilian investigative techniques, etc. The author clearly knows what he’s writing about, and pretty soon readers know way more than they might have imagined. Drugs, crime lords, whizz-kid technology, and regular down-to-earth question-and-answer games combine as the investigation continues. The dialog has an occasionally pedantic factualism, too much information disguising the characters’ occasional failure to ask the right question. And the author’s closeness to his protagonist might come out a little too clearly in carefully-argued current issues. But the mystery with its multiple twists and turns keeps the story going. Meanwhile the truth behind opinion proves pleasingly complex and thought-provoking—what we believe, what we act on, and what it all means in the end being more than the sum of separate scenes. An enjoyable beginning to what should be a really good series, great location, great characters, good plot and lots of well-drawn and convincing backstory, Angel Dance dances well on Seattle’s trees and lands well in the secret shadows of untracked forest. Disclosure: I received a free ecopy of this novel from the author in exchange for my honest review.

"Angel Dance" is a fast-paced detective mystery (the first of a planned series) with Danny Logan, a Seattle private investigator, and his team. The interaction between these two added immensely to the entertainment value of Angel Dance, with this being a typical example: Toni stared at me with a cynical expression on her face that made it look like she was about ready to call, “Bullshit!” Rather than stare back at her, I did the manly thing—I looked away. Not only did these two keep me entertained, but their relationship bodes well for future books in the series. They’re a solid foundation to build on. This story kept me guessing, always a good sign with a mystery. Just when it would look like the answer was clear, something would happen to muddy the picture. I not only enjoyed "Angel Dance," but I’m also eager to see the series continue. **Originally written for "Books and Pals" book blog. May have received a free review copy. **

I really enjoyed this book! The author had the "reader" me on the edge of my seat while my "detective" brain kept trying to solve the mystery...coming to a wall every time the author threw another curve ball. The possible romance angle seeing as Logan obviously hasn't dealt with his feelings that remain with Gina, from a school crush to a romance that was ended due to military enlistment, there was no closure so as he searches for clues he searches his feelings and memories. My favorite character was Toni, I really enjoyed her. Smart, spunky, and Logan's right hand "man" she added a great little sass to the book. The use of a female character by the author balanced it out, so I never felt it was primarily a male book. Don't get me wrong, it is very guy, but as a woman I still enjoyed it. I also enjoyed the author's incredible use of description and his obvious research into the book, either that or the author has quite a past! Which ever the case it made this book that much more descriptive and a good length. This is a definite must read for a fan of any book with military or police background, mob connections, fans of detective books, and fans of a thrill ride! I was not paid for this review. I was gifted the book in return for an honest review. The opinions expressed here are my own and in no way were they swayed. I knew I was going to like this book right away. The writing was so vivid and so good, I was suddenly in Seattle. I could feel the crisp air, see the rolling waters, appreciate the jokes about the weather. I liked main character Danny Logan right away. Gina Fiore is beautiful, brilliant, and practically running the show at the family's high-level, multi-million dollar business. She's also Danny's ex-girlfriend. The two dated for a few weeks, and he's never gotten over her. It's fair to say I was hooked. As the investigation unfolded I was right there with Danny as he examined every clue. When the book shifted into an action-packed suspense story, I couldn't read fast enough. Gina Fiore, you see, isn't the all-professional career gal she seems to be. She has some dark secrets, and Danny has to unravel them. He can't do it without a lot of twists, and I felt his surprise as each shocking turn was revealed. The author kept me on the edge of my seat until the very last page. I'm looking forward to reading the next Danny Logan mystery, and getting much more from this talented author.

I am not usually a fan of the private investigator genre, but Angel Dance was so much fun to read that I completed it in one day in Cape Cod on vacation. In fact, I resented anyone who interrupted my reading time! Danny Logan, a private eye, takes on a case where a former girlfriend has disappeared mysteriously and as the case unfolds, the reader is drawn into the tumultuous world of drug dealers and mafia crime families. The excitement is punctuated by moments of humor and entertaining banter. I love detective novels, mysteries, and stories with suspense. Angel Dance has all of that and more. The mystery has plenty of unexpected twists and kept me guessing all the way through. I didn't want to put it down. All of the characters at Logan P.I. are well-developed and likeable. I love the dialogue and banter between them. I am looking forward to reading more. I especially want to see what happens with Danny and Toni, but I would like to find out more about the others as well. I love detective novels, mysteries, and stories with suspense. Very enjoyable story. Mexican cartel and Chicago mob together for drug trafficking? After reading the chapter headings, had the idea how this story was going to end. I was wrong and you'll be too. Theirs holes in the story and unanswered questions in my mind, but like the music Danny listens. This was the fourth book I read from this author, second book in this series is my favorite. Very enjoyable story. Mexican cartel and Chicago mob together for drug trafficking? More twists and turns than Toni's torso Truly enjoyed this mystery. The tension between Danny and Toni is a tantalizing thread woven throughout the tale. Danny's moral compass is nice to see. The characters are complex and smart. I can see this novel appealingly to anyone looking for entertainment and intrigue. More twists and turns than Toni's torso Truly enjoyed this mystery. I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy this mystery story. It's well written with great character development, but I didn't feel the emotional connection. The plot became predictable early on, there is only limited moments of suspense, and there's too much stereotyping. But the editing is clean and it's an easy read.
