I was excited to read Ryan was getting his own story. After Watch the Fireworks, I felt bad for him. He definitely got the short end of the stick. In this story we get to find out his back story and meet the girl he loved in the past, Harper. I loved Harper. She was strong, witty, funny. I liked how her character was written. I always a enjoy a strong female lead. In fact, she could've taught Ryan a thing or two. (view spoiler)[Thank you for not having him cheat on Trish after what happened with Courtney. I was wondering how their triangle was going to work itself out. (hide spoiler)] I wished Ryan had a bit more backbone but understood why he didn't. The story also had strong secondary characters. Brandon, Kelly, Julian, and Devin were loyal and only wanted their friend's happiness. Then there were also the evil parents- excluding Harper's father of course. What they did was disgusting and it broke my heart. Once again Monica Alexander has written a great story. It was nice to read Harper and Ryan get their HEA after all suffering they endured. Last night I only meant to read for a little bit, but ended reading the whole thing in one sitting. I love when a story demands it not be put down. I do have a challenge for Ms. Alexander: I think she could add some steam to her stories. I know there's a dirty girl in there- she hinted at it in this book. Come on, give us some steam in your next story :) P. S. Can we get Brandon's story next? Seeing as he has man whore tendencies, it would make sense for his story to have steam. Right? :)

4 tattooed stars ! This is my first Monica Alexander book and if her other books are anything like Work of Art it won’t be my last ! This book is a spin-off from Just Watch the Fireworks , but as I have done, it can be read as a standalone. I was thoroughly impressed with this book. I was in a bit of a rut, always starting new books but losing interest half way through and then just moving on to another book I thought would be more exciting only to be disappointed and move on to another with 4 tattooed stars ! This is my first Monica Alexander book and if her other books are anything like Work of Art it won’t be my last ! This book is a spin-off from Just Watch the Fireworks , but as I have done, it can be read as a standalone. I was thoroughly impressed with this book. I was in a bit of a rut, always starting new books but losing interest half way through and then just moving on to another book I thought would be more exciting only to be disappointed and move on to another without finishing it, again . This book broke that cycle, which in itself is a feat, not many books have been able to do this. This book centres around love, loss and an unexpected second chance at happiness. The story is told from three different POVs, which some might say is a bit much, but I don’t think so, at least not in this case. The author gets a big tick from me for this, I love hearing all sides to a story, knowing what everyone is thinking, it just completes a story for me. Harper has been through the wringer. Betrayed and abandoned by her High School boyfriend and kicked out of home by her Mum, Harper started over. It wasn’t easy but she certainly got there in the end, now an up and coming tattoo artist and owner of tattoo shop “Art Studio”, photographer and painter. She is proud, stubborn and passionate about her work. Harper is also scarred, her complacency tainted by old memories. [image error] A chance meeting on an airplane leads Harper to this guy: [image error] Do try not to throw your panties at the screen at the sight of BRANDON. This is a challenge I know, considering he is hot as hell with a dirty mouth to match. Contrary to what Harper originally expected from this ‘suit’, he is a bit of a bad ass, rocking both tats and piercings underneath. But he is also honest and tells it how it is, albeit in a crass manner. These two get on like a house on fire and their banter is truly infectiously hilarious. Harper and Brandon make fast friends and he promises to bring his best friend by Art Studio so they can both get inked up before his friend’s big day. ENTER RYAN aka Brandon’s best friend. [image error] At the sight of her high school boyfriend that ruined her for all others Harper loses her lunch. What a greeting after 11 years, hilarious ! Stunned and taken aback by his sudden reappearance back in her life, she attempts to get the flurry of feelings that she buried long ago under control, settling on two: anger and bitterness. Ryan is a well to do blonde with a preppy style. He is a bit stiff and denies his true self, a consequence of past events. He is doing and being everything that is expected of him: working a job that he no longer has the passion for and marrying a girl that has mums stamp of approval. But can he do this forever? He is just starting to ask himself this when he comes across Harper after all these years. Despite the way things ended he considers it a good surprise and is genuinely pleased to see her until he sees the look of disdain on her face. Confused at this reaction but helpless to resist the lure of his old flame, he attempts to form a friendship with the tentative Harper. Harper, although still sore over the way things ended with Ryan, the guy she has held a torch for over the years, wants her chance to speak what’s been on her mind for the last eleven years. This is when they both discover that they have both been the victim of a huge deception. Upon discovering this they rediscover their friendship only to realise that the wonderful friendship they have is merely not enough. “I just want to make you happy. I want to make up for all the years I wasn’t there and for everything we lost and everything we can’t get back. I want to erase as much as I can. Will you let me take care of you, Harper?” They embark on a sweet journey together, rediscovering love that was once thought to be lost and healing old wounds as they go. “Baby, you’ve had my heart since the first day we met.” - Ryan The secondary characters were also great. I loved Julian. He is your typical gay guy with a vibrant, cheery persona and I loved it, as well as all the endearments he used for Harper. All I can say is Monica Alexander has made a fan girl out of me. This book was a fun, light, entertaining read and I will definitely be having a bit of a look through her past work and keeping an eye out for future books.

Wow, that was waaayyy more emotional than I expected. It's a good thing I love me some angst cause there was plenty of it. What a rollercoaster-full of laughs, tears, amazing characters as well as some truly ugly, despicable, deceitful people too. Oh man the heartache! You're never going to get a guarantee that everything will be okay, and because of what life had dealt you, I get why you're so guarded, but you can't forget to live your life." Harper Connolly comes from quite the screwed up past that slowly gets revealed throughout the book. Against all odds she has made quite the life for herself. She's now one of the most sought after tattoo artists in the country, but body art isn't her only medium. She's also famous for her paintings & photography. Before I go any further, I have to say, Harper has become one of my all-time favorite female leads. She's talented, successful, funny, strong & resilient. Tattooed & pierced, I just loved everything about her. And though she frustrated me a bit towards the end, at least I understood where she was coming from. Total girl-crush going on here. On a flight home to San Francisco (don't call it SanFran-she hates that Lol) she meets Brandon Cooper. They instantly hit it off. This guy is freaking hilarious (a total perv. & self-proclaimed manwhore), they really just clicked, got along great & the banter Lol- the laughs were non stop. But she makes it clear that he can flirt all he wants to, she will not be sleeping with him. He thinks she's cool as hell & wants to be friends. This was the start of a beautiful friendship ;) He tells Harper he's on his way to visit a buddy who's getting married in a month to the wrong girl. He doesn't like his buddy's fiancé, thinks she's all wrong for him, is wayyy to controlling & dull. While he's in town, he wants to bring his buddy into her shop so they can get some ink. When they show up, her world comes to a screeching halt as she realizes Brandon's buddy is none other than Ryan Carson, the boy who completely broke her heart & destroyed her at 18 years old when she needed him most. She has spent the last 11yrs burying her feelings for him, but she has never been able to open her heart to another since. 'He was a liar. And an asshole. And a guy I couldn't stop thinking about no matter how hard I tried. He'd invaded my life after eleven fucking years!' Ryan Carson is miserable in his life. Everything he does & all the decisions he makes (from his career choice to his current fiancé) are an attempt to keep his family happy, though they never are. Seeing Harper again resurfaces all kinds of feelings & emotions he thought he buried a long time ago. But he soon realizes he has never really stopped loving her & the timing couldn't be worse, he's supposed to be getting married. I can't really say much more without spoiling the story. From here on out it's one revelation after another. Secrets from their past are discovered & they find out the end of their relationship 11yrs earlier is shrouded in deceit, lies & outside meddling they never saw coming. It was completely heartbreaking & devastating. Oh-the tears!! My heart broke so much for these two, it's a story you just have to experience to truly understand. You will go through so sooo many emotions, just...incredible. I highly recommend this book, just make sure you have plenty of tissues handy.

3.5 Stars Monica Alexander is an author that I just can’t get enough of. I fell in love with her writing after reading After Shocks and proceeded to read anything of hers I could get my hands on. After reading the blurb for Work of Art, it took all my patience to wait for release day. I’ll let you in on a little secret… I have absolutely NO patience. While this novel didn’t knock my socks off it was sweet and entertaining. It’s hard to go wrong when you pick up a book by such an amazing author. Yo 3.5 Stars Monica Alexander is an author that I just can’t get enough of. You can’t go wrong with a strong female lead and that’s exactly what Monica gives us. Harper Connelly is a little rough around the edges, but I can’t say I blame her after what she’s dealt with in the past. Her high school boyfriend Ryan ripped her heart out and shattered it into tiny pieces, leaving her to deal with something monumental on her own. Her mother is or was more or less a waste of space and kicked her out at 18. She had a plan that was blown to smithereens with one single solitary email. Now eleven years later she’s a fiercely independent woman who guards her heart and has found an outlet for her emotions through her art work. She owns a tattoo shop/art gallery and has made quite a name for herself. Ryan Carson is just a mess. He was cheated on by his ex-fiancé and in an attempt to recover from his failed relationship, he started seeing Trish. Trish is Ryan’s mothers dream daughter-in-law. She was basically groomed from birth to be a trophy wife. On paper she’s perfect. She’s everything Ryan should want, only he doesn’t. He asked her to marry him 6 months ago and as the wedding date looms closer he finds himself wondering if marrying Trish is really what his heart wants. On a plane ride from Boston to San Francisco, Harper meets Brandon, Ryan’s best friend. They chat and laugh, before long they’re exchanging phone numbers and promising to keep in touch. When Brandon asked Harper to tattoo him and his friend she never expected the unnamed friend to be Ryan. Now she has to decide if she can put the past behind her and move on or if some things are just too painful to move past. “I’m going to make you see that you want to be with me, Harper Connelly, because if I’m being honest with myself, you’re the only girl I’ve ever truly loved. And one day soon, you’re going to tell me you feel the same way about me.” I think one of the main things I liked about Work of Art, is that while it deals with characters from Watch the Fireworks, it isn’t necessary to read that book to enjoy this one. While Ryan was most definitely an important character in Watch the Fireworks, he kind of took a back seat to Courtney and Beckett. It was nice to get a better picture of the man he really is and what he’s searching for in life. The plot had a few twists and turns, but for the most part it was fairly predictable. I wasn’t blown away by anything in particular. There were only a handful of scenes that really tugged on my heartstrings. The supporting characters were incredible! In my very humble opinion, Brandon and Julian made the book. Brandon is so crass and straight forward that you can’t help but love everything that comes out of his mouth. Most of it is cringe worthy, but it just adds to his charm. I’m hoping that someday in the near future Brandon gets his own book. Julian is also brutally honest but in a completely different way. You can tell that he cares a great deal for Harper and would do anything to ensure her happiness. I just thought both men where incredible. Work of Art didn’t amaze me or keep me guessing till the end. It was just simply a sweet love story filled with misunderstanding and manipulation. It’s more of a story of discovery than anything else. The two main characters discover what they’re made of, who they want to be, and just exactly what went wrong in the past. It’s a fast, fun and easy read. While the story does deal with some tough topics, it still has a light and fluffy feel to it. I would recommend you read Watch the Fireworks before reading this novel even though it’s not required. It will give you more insight into Ryan’s character.

So WoA is the love story of Ryan and Harper, who fell in love at 16 and were separated at 18 and reunited at 29 Throughout the book, you'll go on a journey with both of their lives (thank god for the dual pov)and see how they have lived their lives when they were separated and also how they reconnect. I believe the separation was a good thing for Harper or she would have suffocated in relationship with Ryan when they were younger. Seeing how both set of parents were so evil and Ryan had Yale expectations. You can't make money with art. While Harper has grown into this successful, independent, adventurous and confident woman(who still likes preppy guys), unfortunately same can't be said about Ryan. Ryan on the other hand was a confident guy who as the years went by got under the thumb of his witch of a mother and became disgustingly passive. And honestly it really wasn't his fault, because it seemed that his relationships with the women he loved ended up in a disaster w/o him even having to try. So they meet and Harper lets out all of the pain and anger she's harbored against Ryan, because of a stupid misunderstanding. While Ryan has forgiven her for his side of the misunderstanding and wants to be friends. But neither can help the attraction and feelings that are still between them, but good people that they are, I'm glad to say they don't give into it due to present commitments. Then they figure out the twisted plan they were victims of and hell lets loose on Ryan's side. And then they get their HEA in slow drive. Ryan was one of the realistic characters, I've ever read. The guy's got major flaws but the good in him overrides it. He's an epitome of a nice guy, adorably awkward sometimes, hotly confident at others and overall a decent person. I loved Work of Art, it was wonderful. Can I get a Brandon book? Pwetty Pwease! Hmmmm, oh I'll be definitely reading more of Ms. Alexander. PS- I was almost done with the book when I realized wait, there hasn't been any X-rated scenes so far. It was a pleasant surprise to know I enjoyed this book so much despite the lack of even a hot make up session.

They both come from rich families and families that are all about appearances. Right after they graduated and were about to go off to Yale, Harper finds out she's pregnant. She tells Ryan about it and he's excited to start their life together and have a baby. Ryan goes on a week long trip with his father and in that time, his mother goes to Harper to try to get her to have an abortion and to end things with Ryan. Harper would not do it, so his parents do things to make things end with them. Ryan thinks that she had an abortion and broke up with him. Harper think that Ryan ended things and then her mother kicked her out of her house, so she goes to California and finds her real father and makes a life for herself. Harper is now a pretty famous tattoo artist and artist. Harper meets Brandon on a flight and they become friends. Brandon is going to California because a good friend of his is getting married, which is Ryan. Ryan is engaged again to a woman that his mother wants him to marry. Ryan loves her but he isn't in love with her. Harper and Ryan meet again and things start changing. The truth comes out down the road. These two were meant to be.

He and Harper meet on a plane and form a "bond" of some sort, more on Brandon's side at this point. They are headed to beautiful San Francisco where Harper lives and Brandon wants to move to. Brandon is also headed there for the wedding of his best friend, Ryan, Harper's former love. The action of this story revolves around 4 weeks, up to the actual wedding day. And Monica chogged these 4 weeks with plenty of hurt for both Ryan and Harper (I love that name). One aspect I enjoyed about this story was that it focused on their adult lives now, rather than constantly having flashbacks to the past. Yes, there are some; just enough to involve the reader with their story. Harper and Ryan have suffered a bitter betrayal at the hands of their parents and only now find out just how manipulated they were, simply because Ryan's parents never thought Harper was good enough, although there is more to it than that as we find out. I enjoyed their story and found it to be a sweet read. My only complaint? I wanted BLOOD from his parents and their heads stuck on pikes! Thanks Monica! Sweet story with a warm HEA

Monica Alexander...you've done it again. This is one author that everything she writes I LOVE! And the best thing is I don't have to wait very long for her next book. I personally can't imagine the depth of her suffering (for which I'm thankful). But I felt it, in this book...I felt it. When I'm reading and I literally feel a pang of pain in my chest, I know I'm totally involved with the characters. It's the main reason I love this author. Ryan has always done what his family wanted him to do. And his pretentious family has somehow made him feel like he's a failure in the process. RME! They truly are assholes. Through a fantastic twist of fate, Harper and Ryan meet face to face for the first time in eleven years and start to delve into the reasons for their breakup. In the process they find out so much about themselves and their ability to survive their hardships. And I swear I LOVE LOVE LOVE Brandon! I want to read his story, Ms. Alexander! His banter with Harper is so dead on outrageous and funny I found myself giggling and blushing like a little girl. (The BJ comment when they first meet is priceless). And of course I love how you tangle all your books together giving me a glimpse of other characters I've grown to love. Truly enjoyed this book and patiently waiting for more ZACK EASTON! ;)

At first I thought Monica Alexander was going that way and I thought: " oh, no, not again!". But then I was surprised, because although we didn't see much of her in this book she managed to show us that Trish was, maybe, immature but someone who had her heart in the right place. Brandon was the type of man whore we all love. Funny, witty, free spirited, out of a bad divorce who just wanted to have some fun. And, who make me laugh as soon as he was in scene! Harper and Ryan were incredibly real. I loved the story of these high school sweethearts who were torn apart and who step by step were able to find themselves again. I loved how Ryan reacted when the truth came out and that the author didn't go down the road of " everything is forgivable", that so many authors use and sometimes makes me want to shut to the characters. Because lots of things can be forgiven, but there are some that is impossible to forgive and forget . Finally I must say it, the scene (view spoiler)[ with Ryan and Harper talking to Ty in front of his grave (hide spoiler)] was HEARTBREAKING! All I can say is WELL DONE!

I'm just going to go on record and say that Monica Alexander is my favorite author! I've read all of her books and I am never disappointed. Work of Art was no exception! The main characters were all amazing and well-developed. I admit that going into this story, that I wasn't a fan of Ryan's. I didn't particularly like him from Just Watch the Fireworks, but now I understand that there was a lot more going on with him than I realized. Harper, god bless her, was a damaged, but strong woman who didn't let the things that happened stand in the way of her being happy. Even though she was guarded with her heart, she still had love in her life from her friends and father. She's definitely a strong lady and I was glad that she did get her happy ending :-) Oh, Brandon, Brandon, Brandon! My new favorite character! He was funny and a very loyal friend who only wanted happiness for his friends. I liked how he was pulling for Harper and Ryan the whole time. He was just awesome! I also liked the small scene between Courtney and Ryan and I'm glad that it was included because it tied up their ending. So, BRAVO, Monica Alexander! I can't wait to see what you have in store for us next!

They say that family is everything. Sometimes…not so much ***Vaguely Spoiler*** OK, one reason I loved this book is because neither of the MCs actually screwed up and neither owes the other an apology. Another reason is that the characters all had normal names. Yes, Harper is a little different, but Ms. Lee is one of our greatest authors, so no complaints there. Another reason was that Ryan was a genuinely good guy, and Harper was smart, mature and never whined! Fourth, the villains in this story They say that family is everything. Fourth, the villains in this story – and there are villains – were so blood curtlingly (emphasis on “blood”) evil – they were just perfectly awesome horrible depraved people. And villains are not really fun unless they truly embrace that highway to hell. There will be a traffic jam after this novel. Oh, and finally, both the story and the dialogue (join point of view, so all dialogue) was freaking amazing. And tragic. And beautiful. There is an event in the story where I truly felt like I got knifed in the gut, and the reactions were so appropriate – breathtaking in the pain that was conveyed. And then I was happy. Good, good book.

I absolutely love Monica Alexander. I fell in love with yet another one of her novels. This one was truly touching. It's about love, loss and finding happiness when times seem too dark that you fear you will never see light again. Ryan and Harper, spent 11 years apart thinking the other one just walked away. A family with power that thinks they can control someone's destiny. When Ryan and Harper meet again, 11 years later sparks fly and the love they once shared is sparked back to life. Their forever starts again. I hope there is more to come for Ryan and Harper and just maybe some of Brandon as well. He was a fun character, one that made you laugh but he also was a true friend. All around good guy.

I was browsing through this site where i download eBooks when I came upon this book and after reading the summary/plot, i knew that this was my kind of book and after reading it, I was actually right. It's a really good and light story and it had it's twist. Basically, I thought I wouldn't like the lead character Harper because of her tattoo's (I know I'm being judgmental here) but she was portrayed beautifully in the story and what I like most about her is that she doesn't keep all her emotions I was browsing through this site where i download eBooks when I came upon this book and after reading the summary/plot, i knew that this was my kind of book and after reading it, I was actually right. A story of true love and second chances. Ryan and Harper were really mature in processing their relationship. They thought of everything by following the right path. Despite Ryan having Trish, he didn't cheat on her. I kind of admire Trish as well. She handled her break up and humiliation well for someone so young. I kind of wished that she had a happy ending as well. The depth of all the characters were so amazing that I couldn't get enough of it. I literally finished it in one day. Well, I think I really like the second chance love thing. Because, they're really deserve the second chance thing. Harper is loveable and Ryan is charming. Harper didn't whine or accuse Ryan for everything that happened to their child. She's an independent woman so I idolize her. “I’m going to make you see that you want to be with me, Harper Connelly, because if I’m being honest with myself, you’re the only girl I’ve ever truly loved. Monica did such a good job with this book. I did not read Just Add Fireworks and I like that it was not completely in the dark. I loved the fact that you found out the back story as you get through the book. My heart break for them as I realized all that they had been through and that they didn't even know the extent. Monica created secondary characters that you could fall in love with. aka Brandon, Kelly and Julian. For a while there I was even rooting for Brandon just because he was just so fu Monica did such a good job with this book. First off..Loved Brandon in this book! Great guy..a bit raunchy but overall great guy. Ryan was good too but needed to figure things out first. A really good love story..sad to hear what obstacles they had to overcome to get to where they are but it brought them closer than they had been. What are the odds that the guy you meet on the plane is best friends with your high school sweetheart that you no longer speak to?? Crazy! Hard to believe what they both had to deal with and how sad it was to h First off..Loved Brandon in this book! Great guy..a bit raunchy but overall great guy. WHOOOOOOOO!!! that was just so AMAZING!! I liked everything! Harper is so cool and Ryan is so romantic. They have great personalities. I actually feel like wanting to attend Harper's show!!! I want to see the pictures!!! kind of dissapointed coz: I was waiting to hear Ryan call Tyler "son" to make it more intimate. And I wished his parents apologized for what they've done. Everything's cool though and super SWEET. WHOOOOOOOO!!! that was just so AMAZING!! I liked everything! Harper is so cool and Ryan is so romantic. They have great personalities. Loved this book! So sad that Ryan & Harper spent 11 years thinking they each had abandoned the other:( So much heartache all due to the betrayal of the people that should have loved them the most! Glad that fate intervened and they both ended up right where they belonged! I have now read all of Monica's books & can't wait for her to release another one:) (Wouldn't mind hearing Brandon's story.) Loved this book! I almost never write book reviews! So, with that being said ! I would really like to thank Monica for writing a book with a strong women in the story ! I have yet to read one of Monica's books that I didn't love. Really, I think they get better and better, never disappointing. With all that "lovey" (Cuz I do love her books!) stuff being said this book also had my crying at some points as well. It is a must read, that anyone will enjoy! I read this book in 6 hours because I could not-put-it-down and totally cried my eyes out!!! Yes I woke up with swollen peepers, but it was totally WORTH IT! What a heartbreaking, adorable, lovely, romantic, sweet, sassy, raunchy (only Brandon and Ryan but only because he totally needed to get some) book. I hope there is a thrid one in the series, I kind of want to know what happens to Trish.

I loved the story. It had me up until 4 in the morning. If it was a biography it would have been the greatest tragedy I had heard of two people who loved so deeply. I cried and laughed reading this book. I recommend to those who love to read romance but more for those that love a tragedy and see the character rise from the worst pain imaginable to have a silver lining at the end.

Finished the book in a day and by Far it's my favorite. I adored Harper and Ryan's story. I cried and laughed and felt every emotion every character felt. I'm amused by Harper's strength as a woman. She's very strong and I want that kind of strength. I would love to read this book again and cry and laugh again... I really liked this book! There were times where I thought it was just too much drama packed into a novel but in the end, it was very heartfelt and I loved it. See, if Nicholas Sparks and Sarah Dessen had a baby, he or she would've written this book. Solid 4 stars for lovable characters and twisted storyline. I really liked this book!
