Sasuke should not be taking fashion advice from Orochimaru. I think that's something we can all agree with. Sasuke should not be taking fashion advice from Orochimaru. I think that's something we can all agree with.

Twisty turny plots revolving around Sai, and a quick resolution, too. Perhaps too quick. Well, regardless, we've come to Naruto and Sasuke's first reunion after that fantastically good fight between them, and it's damn satisfying. Sasuke has turned evil. Not only that, he's become impressive. I still shiver at the scene where he shows up in Naruto's mind to talk with the demon. Overall, it's a yummy volume. There are so many plot twists going on in such a short period of time. Although they all revolve around Sai and his character, the highlight of this volume is in the epic encounter in the final act that ends on such a sad note that you could almost feel all the weight of the world squishing you as you try and wrap your mind around what just happened. The future looks bleak for team Kakashi but it's how they bounce back that will determine the outcome of pretty much everything that is to come. You learn about Sai's true mission in this volume. His mission was to assassinate Sasuke. He was doing that to protect Konoha from Orochimaru. Orochimaru's ultimate goal is to destroy the village. Sasuke is also a threat to the village. Sakura, Naruto, and Yamato also learn more about Sai in the beginning of the novel. They open the book that Sai left behind. He's determined to save Sasuke no matter what. They still do have a bond. Also, Sasuke returns in this volume.. Naruto and Sakura see him. Naruto asks Sasuke, "Why, on that day...why didn't you just kill me?! That would've broken!" In the anime, he says. "Why didn't you kill me that day? Weren't you trying to break our bond?!" Sasuke asks Sasuke if he still wants to be hokage. He also says you should have been busy training instead of going after me. Naruto tells him, "If someone can't save a friend, then I don't think they deserve to be hokage." Sasuke only wants to kill his older brother. That is the reason he wants power. He says he only has the bond of hatred for his brother. He also said he spared Naruto's life on a whim. He didn't want to become anything like Itachi. Then he attacks him. This volume literally just made me hate Sasuke so much more. He really has made some dumb decisions especially getting revenge against Itachi. *sighs again*

Wow this was the best volume in Naruto I read in a long time. This time we have Sai backstory and though told nicely instead of just shown in flashbacks, you get all you need to start rooting for the guy. The story likes to go back and forth on him if you should trust him, making him feel like a double agent at all times. Smart and fun. Sasuke makes his grand reappearance here and Naruto and co have to deal with it head on. Just how strong did Sasuke get over the few years? Once upon a time, the spirit of an evil Nine Tailed Fox wreaked havoc on Konohagakure; the Village Hidden in the Leaves, killing hundreds of honorable ninja in the skirmish and leaving many children without homes or parents. The Fourth Hokage (leader of the village) unleashes a forbidden jutsu (magic spell/ninja ability) to seal the spirit of the evil fox into the body of a newborn baby named Naruto at the cost of his own life. He did this in the hopes that the boy could one day learn to master the power of the demonic spirit and use it to protect the village and become a great hero of the people. Unknown to the citizens of the Leaf, the Nine Tailed Fox was being controlled by an even more powerful adversary, a legendary rogue ninja that plans to wage war against the entire world from the shadows. The identity of the mysterious ninja that attacked the Leaf Village using the Nine Tails died with the Fourth Hokage, and he used what remained of his life to gift Naruto with the power of one day being able to stop this evil ninja and a clan of outlawed S-rank criminals called the Akatsuki from committing mass genocide against the many hidden villages and clans of the world. Because of the evil spirit sealed inside him, Naruto grew up hated by the other children of the village because they believe him and the Nine Tails to be one and the same. They believe heโ€™s a ticking time bomb waiting to go off, waiting for the perfect moment to kill them all just like the Nine Tails killed their parents and families. Shunned, dehumanized and treated like dirt, Naruto vows to become the greatest hokage the world has ever seen so that he can receive the love and acknowledgement he never got as a child. On top of the Nine Tails power and the will to never quit, Naruto also possesses the uncanny ability to turn everyone he meets into a potential comrade. He brings out the best in his peers and tries his hardest to make his enemies see the errors of their ways. He disobeys the rules and ignores cultural traditions to try and make changes to the world and break the eternal cycle of war and hatred through his own methods. His determination is infectious to friend and foe alike. He earns himself the respect he deserves by overcoming one impossible obstacle at a time. Naruto encounters many fascinating and terrifying ninja over the course of his journey to become hokage. Among them are Sasuke Uchiha, Narutoโ€™s best friend and rival who is driven by the vengeful lust to murder his elder brother after he wiped out their own clan in cold blood. Sasuke warms up to Naruto, but his hatred and trauma are dangerous forces that threaten to break his moral code as a ninja and destroy his reputation among his peers. Kakashi Hatake is a notorious copycat ninja that survived one of the most brutal and devastating wars in history as well as the Nine Tails attack on the Leaf Village. He becomes Naruto and Sasukeโ€™s mentor and teaches them a great number of valuable lessons about surviving in the dangerous world of rogue ninja, bloodthirsty assassins and clans ruled by corruption. Jiraiya is a perverted yet wise sage who taught the Fourth Hokage everything he knew and heโ€™s regarded as a god among shinobi thatโ€™s famous for his heroic actions in the second great ninja war. He takes an interest in Naruto and raises him as a father figure to carry on the legacy of the Fourth Hokage to prepare him for the many dangerous people that want to use his power for their own nefarious purposes. The Akatsuki is one such group of wicked ninja. Among them are Sasukeโ€™s brother Itachi who murdered his clan and possesses many dangerous techniques involving illusions, psychological torture and elemental manipulation. Sasori who controls poisonous puppets with magical threads, Orochimaru who mastered the forbidden arts of reanimation and quasi-immortality, Deidara who fights from afar using detonating clay and many other deadly foes. The entire series chronicles Naruto and his fellow ninja comrades growing through countless trials and tragedies. There are hundreds of unique jutsus, clans, and techniques which lead to some very intense, creative and strategic battles between skilled ninja with diverse abilities that donโ€™t always match up evenly. There are clan based abilities such as the Aburame clanโ€™s ability to control insects, the Yamanaka clanโ€™s ability to jump into other peopleโ€™s minds and control their bodies and the Inuzuka clanโ€™s ability to bond with wolves that learn to mimic their masterโ€™s battle skills. Then thereโ€™s ocular genetic abilities such as the sharingan which allows the user to create psychological illusions, copy their enemyโ€™s abilities and manipulate elemental energy. The byakugan allows the user to read their enemies vital points and detect their spiritual energy from faraway. The rinnegan grants control over space and gravity and so on. On top of having countless unique abilities, nearly every character has a tragic backstory that makes them sympathetic and relatable, even the nastiest of the villains have well-explored reasons for following the paths they do and becoming the way they are. One of my favorite aspects of the series is how well it explores the physical, emotional and psychological effects war can have on society and culture as well as the survivors and future generations that are forced to live in them. How it breeds racism and cultural disputes, how it inspires hatred in orphaned children and war veterans robbed of their homes toward foreign nations, as well as how this eventually leads to further death, war, poverty and destruction. Learning to forgive the ones you hate to prevent further conflict and damaging the world for future generations even further is a major theme throughout the story. Being a massive 700 chapter series, itโ€™s not too surprising that thereโ€™s some plot holes and consistency issues. A rule might be stated regarding the requirements and usage of a certain jutsu or ability only for that rule to be repeatedly broken 400 chapters later. Sometimes the characters and rules contradict themselves, sometimes the chronology of certain events and historical facts donโ€™t match up perfectly, the lore and general backstory go through several retcons that change the philosophy and power scaling of the characters and the scope of world-building; the final arc especially drags on and breaks a lot of the logic and rules that the story spent the whole series setting up, etc... Narutoโ€™s far from perfect, but I remember it very fondly for being one of the first series that introduced me to things like manga and Japanese entertainment in general. It was one of those childhood classics like Dragon Ball, Inuyasha, Yu Yu Hakusho and Rurouni Kenshin. The series grew up with me and I canโ€™t help but feel grateful to it for introducing me to hundreds of other franchises that Iโ€™m still a huge fan of to this day and I continue to find many new ones on the regular. Naruto's journey from a clownish, disrespected outcast into a talented, well-loved and admired hero is a memorable one.

I will talk about the Search for Sasuke arc in one go (vol 32-34), since there is a lot of downtime and not much happens in each volume to deserves a separate review. So, what happens as a whole: -The heroes go to get Sasuke back, which is what we should be getting right after the time skip, instead of the Gaara rescue. This is the third rescue mission in a row, I mean, come on, have some variety already! -The way they go about this mission is plain dull. This is the third rescue mission in a row, I mean, come on, have some variety already! -The way they go about this mission is plain dull. Outside of Naruto who is vital to the plot, the rest of the team were just there to stall time as usual. Sakura was useless as always, Sai was an emotionless drone that never does much in the manga, and Yamato is there to introduce cloning and elemental jutsus that never go anywhere. -Naruto loses control of his tailed beast during a fight, and we are supposed to find that worrisome or something, although we have already seen it a few times in the past and we already know itโ€™s dangerous. Kishimoto was doing the usual gimmick where he needs to give the protagonist a broken power while at the same time giving that power a backlash, but itโ€™s not working out that well when it comes and goes however the plot demands for it. -The end of the mission feels like nothing was accomplished, which in turn means these three volumes are a waste of time. They didnโ€™t get Sasuke back Nobody died or changed his allegiance Sakura is still useless, Naruto is still where he started, Sai is background decoration

Plus Madara Uchiha is also mentioned here, Naruto and Sasuke have one last convo before he departs and seems like they weren't that successful. This volume focused on bringing things to a head and show how far Sasuke has fallen and its all because of the feeling of revenge and how its not good, as it destroys everything around itself. Naruto had a cool realization.

Sai is a terrible character and I hate the focus he gets. The awkward forced smiles and terrible 'jokes' surrounding him aren't endearing, and the whole mystery about whether he's a traitor or double agent or triple agent or whatever isn't great. Kishimoto hasn't ever excelled at plots, and taking a volume to be all about mystery and intrigue instead of any sort of fighting is boring. Instead it's a boring half a chapter as Sakura and Naruto explain to the reader why the book is important, revealing how its 'plot' works as if it were ever some sort of mystery, and skipping through some static images. And then there's the reunion with Sasuke! Who has gone from being the angry boy full of temper and always emoting disgust to... completely stoic. He has no personality anymore, he's just a husk, and Kishimoto fails to draw out any compassion with the scene. Despite being the focus of the entire arc it boils down to some silly teaser and a name drop of "Uchiha Madara" that means nothing to us at the moment.

Yasssss girllll. Sasuke's back and what a volume this was. So many twists and soooo much emotion. I love the emotional volumes so much. Sai is a bit undeveloped...he is in the show as well, but I do like the twists that provides. The best part is the fact the Sasuke is back and with a literal vengeance. I can't wait for what's next as the next like 4 arcs are my favorite parts of the entire show. Yasssss girllll. Sasuke's back and what a volume this was. So many twists and soooo much emotion. The good: -Sai story is full of turns and twist, this character amazed me a couple of times in this volume. -Naruto and Sasuke meet again. -Sasuke talking with the nine tail beast. The bad: -Felt like a conclussion and like an introduction for the next arcs. -A little bit confusing about Danzo real intentions.

More of a 3.5 star rating; Sai finally meets Sasuke as well as eventually revealing why heโ€™s truly on Team Kakashi. A bit of Saiโ€™s background is also revealed with him saying why heโ€™s with Team Kakashi which I thought was cool. Also Iโ€™m curious to see how everyone, Naruto especially, react to what they now know of Sasuke after having met him before he left with Orochimaru. Again.

I think Sai could potentially be one of my favorite characters in this series along with Rock Lee. He is a lot more interesting to me than Sasuke could ever hope to be. I'm getting tired of Sasuke's deliberate selfishness but then I understand why he would go to such lengths to achieve great power. Still, I really can't help but feel bad for Naruto and Sakura. SAUCE-GAY I MEAN SASUKE I always thought his time-skip design was hilarious! Also, Sai.

If you love anime that involves ninjas and fighting this is a great book. Naruto is my favorite show right know because there are some parts that are cliff hanging.

SASUKE!!! He is so twisted now, but I still love him. But Naruto, he must grow stronger. Saiโ€™s development was fantastic too.
