I got a new puppy and wanted to see some guidelines for preparing home cooked food. While we won't be feeding her an exclusively homemade diet, she will get some fresh food mixed in. This has plenty of great recipes for every meal, from breakfast to dinner, desserts, special occasions, and training snacks. There are even recipes for homemade kibble and Kong toy stuffing. Plus there is some information on what not to feed a dog (like onions and grapes). Yes! finally! a recipe book for dog lovers that doesn't ask for ingredients that most people don't have in their kitchen already. The book contains a lot of information at the front about why you should make things for your dog (including the food can be healthier and definitely more cost effective). I've looked at other books and rolled my eyes - almond flour, coconut oil, cupcakes for dogs. The book is broken up into several sections going from raw, to treats, to side dishes and so on. I've looked at other books and rolled my eyes - almond flour, coconut oil, cupcakes for dogs. The book is broken up into several sections going from raw, to treats, to side dishes and so on. In looking at the table of contents you can be forgiven if you start to think that these recipes are for humans. Recipes are clear and the instructions well done. The biggest downfall is that there are no photos in the book and I do like to see examples of the finished product. But that is a minor detail when the book is as varied and well laid out as this one. I already own too many cookbooks (all for humans) but I might make an exception and get this cookbook so I can spoil my fur friend even more. Definitely recommended.

This book has more recipes for treats than anything else. While that is fine and dandy I was expecting more recipes for meals for my dog. It states on the cover "Over 125 easy recipes for healthy, homemade dog food." They should change the food to treats. This book has more recipes for treats than anything else.
