Ripple of Secrets is #6.5 in the Rose Gardner series by Denise Grover Swank. First, if you are a fan of this series, I want to say that the three novellas are just as important part of the series as the regular books. Each novella contains crucial information that adds so much to the series as a whole. And in my opinion, each novella is more intense than the previous one. Each novella contains crucial information that adds so much to the series as a whole. And in my opinion, each novella is more intense than the previous one. Ripple of Secrets pretty much blew my mind. Some of the secrets we learn in this one completely bowled me over. We already knew that Joe’s dad, J.R. Simmons had a black heart. But we got a good look into his evilness and you will be shocked. I think I gasped a time or two. We get a rare look at Hilary. It’s no secret that I detest that woman and the way she tries to manipulate Joe. But we get a flash back to age seventeen. I think I needed some time after I read this part to process what I learned. I was pretty surprised that the author actually decided to go this way. Did it change the way I feel about Hilary…no, I don’t think it did. But I do understand her better. We get to know Kate, Joe’s sister a little bit. At first, I didn’t like her. But by the end, I am starting to warm to her. I think she just doesn’t have a filter. But there is something there that makes me like her. I think Joe might eventually be glad she is there. We get a rare look into Skeeter Malcom’s head. Skeeter is a bad guy, we all know that. But this little glimpse at him sort of humanizes him to me a little bit. All along I have thought he had a little soft spot for Rose and I believe it even more so now. And then there is our beloved Rose, Joe and Mason. Joe, I have bad mouthed you for a while now but you are winning me back. Hang in there. Mason loves Rose. There is no debate about that. But is he RIGHT for Rose? I’m still not completely sure. And Rose, oh our sweet Rose. I love you even more. It's nearly Valentine's Day and Rose, Violet and Joe are preparing for the re-opening of their nursery, Gardner Sisters. And, of course, DGS leaves us teetering on the edge with a bit of a cliffhanger involving Neely Kate. Finishing this novella has me totally amped up for the release of the next book the end of April, Thirty-Four and a Half Predicaments. I can’t wait.

so i’ve been reading this series in order... this series is always funny and light hearted and borders on the ridiculous. yes there are dark topics like murder and such but normally in the “cozy mystery” format. this novella is complete opposite. dark, no sugar coating and sickening. it’s not badly written- just the opposite since it evokes such feelings for the characters. but man- this is eye opening in a “wish i didn’t hear/see/know that” way.

I do like these little novellas and getting to see sides of different characters told from their POV. Sometimes makes me more sympathetic towards them (shocker on Joe's baby mama) and other times...not so much. This was fun gearing up for a business reopening, everyone coming back to town after various trips, getting a few more details on Joe's dad who is just a piece of work. A good in between read. Kick you in the shins, spit on your neck FANTASTIC! Denise Grover Swank has perfected the art of the novella! The Rose Gardner Between the Numbers Novella create bridges between the main novels, and don't get too comfortable because these bridges often have nasty troll secrets waiting underneath to reach up and grab you! Ripple of Secrets was no exception because the POVs shared took what you knew about certain characters and dumped it from a 20 story window. Wow, Wow, Wow!!! If you are a fan of the Rose Gardner Mysteries, then you can not miss this novella. To be honest, all of the novellas are important in this series. This one gives us such an insight to what the other characters are thinking and what makes them do the things they do. Firstly, lets talk Mason............this must now squish all people's thoughts of him being sinister. He is only ever wanted to protect Rose and let her grow and mature her own way. Gives us a little more understanding as to why she is the way she is. Although, she is an adult now and should behave like one. We are left with Neely-Kate rushed to hospital. I know she is just a character in a book, but I felt the need to say a prayer for her. Only time will tell and we will find out in Thirty-four the outcome of her and the baby. Bring on April 28th.

Yes, Yes Yes!!! This is a MUST read (especially if you are a fan of the series)!! Part of me wishes that Denise would make the whole Rose Gardner Mystery series from different points of view, in all of the books, instead of in her novellas. Everything about this book was great. It was darker than the past books in the series... but it ties so many things together. I also am kinda glad that Denise went a darker route with this book. Some of the Rose Gardner Mystery series has been so bubbly and happy, it makes you feel you are living in another world, this book brings everything back to reality. I think it also is going to bring some twist to what is to come in the series as well. I think we will find out who truly is the father of Hilary's baby. I think that Mason and Joe are going to find out about Rose and Skeeter, and it's going to cause some major drama. Clearly, we will also see more of Kate in the coming books as well. Overall, I can't say enough about this book! <3 <3 <3

The Ripple! We got a lot of back story and a lot of different points of views in this novella! This novella is a must read to fully understand these characters. My heart breaks for some but the understanding I now have for them is huge. The ending of this book throws a real curve ball and is a cliff hanger! Only Thirty-Four and a Half Predicaments!

Rose has some secrets but so does everyone else that she is around. Part of me wants to just sit these characters down and say "take a deep breath, and tell everyone in the room what you are hiding." ha ha! The plot thickens and this reader is found hypothesizing what will happen to our beloved Rose, Mason, and Skeeter. What I love about these Novella's is we finally get inside the heads of the other major players and Ripple of Secrets lives up to it's name. We learn that everyone is keeping a secret. While all the major players may be doing this for "noble" reason, lies and secrets never end well for anyone keeping them or those being kept from the truth. Set during ht Christmas holiday, Rose has gone off to be with Mason and family and Joe is summoned home, where his sister shows up unexpectedly. But Kate always has motives and though she jabs at Hilary, there is a foreboding sense that something big is about to happen. This story builds up to the next book in the series, and really the final five books if I am honest. Though there is really no background for the previous books (this series really should be read in order else the reader will be undoubtedly confused,) still it did help give me some grounding as to what happened before and plants some seeds as to what some characters are truly like (read: evil) and where the route leads to next. Aside from the one chapter that had two violent scenes, I liked this book. Overall, a good bridge to the next book. Three stars.

So I know I'm a little late to the rose Gardner mystery series but omg I couldn't put the darn books down. I know it sounds weird but this author really makes you feel what's happening.

As all the other novella's Swank gives you a little closer glimpse into Rose's world as well as a few other characters. In this book we read from the point of view of Joe, Mason, Skeeter, and Hilary. We learn why Hilary is the way she is and why she is so set out to have Joe to herself. We are introduced to Kate, Joe's sister, as well as learn what Mason was up to in Little Rock. An unfortunate event happens at the end, that I didn't think would happen. Loved this book a lot Trying to keep someone who wants to be somewhere else is like trying to hold sand in an open hand. This was another short one yet packed full of so much. I really liked this book a lot, you get point of views not just from, Rose or Mason and Joe but from Joe, Mason, Bruce Wayne, Skeeter, and yes Hillary. You get to see a little more about each person and where they've come from or why they are the way they are. For Skeeter you see a little of what made him the way he is today Loved this book a lot Trying to keep someone who wants to be somewhere else is like trying to hold sand in an open hand. For Skeeter you see a little of what made him the way he is today and what lead him to go towards the crime world. You also see the pull that he has towards Rose like she does with everyone else. You can actually tell he really does care about her and her safety which is nice, yes even with him being a criminal lol. I know he's supposed to be the bad guy but the more I read about him I start to like him more and more. I like the silliness and funny jokes he has with Rose, it dose make you laugh at times like when "Rose elbows him in the stomach saying don't even think about it Skeeter its never going to happen" . I guess thats why they say girls love the bad guys. For Joe and Hillary You get to see what it was like in the past for them growing up with their families. You really see why Joe is the way he is today, and why Hillary is the way she is. It really makes you feel for them both Yes Hillary to. It also makes you see and understand why Joe likes Rose and likes living in Henrietta. Its a different life away from his father. He can be who he really wants to be and a much happier person in life then being around his parents. Unfortunately no matter where Joe is or where he lives his dad still has control over him, just waiting for the next blackmail, threat, or reminder to give to Joe to make him do what he wants. Now with Hillary you get a very heart breaking gasping and shocking point of view from her life growing up with her family and the Simmons which is really hard to see. It really brings tears to your eyes. Seeing what it was like for Hillary and what she really went through from her family AND "Joe's" dad through the years really makes you sick to your stomach. You actually see why Hillary is the way she is, and you actually feel bad for her. You really see for the first time the full evilness of Joe's dad and the things that he will do to anyone without one thought or a blink of an eye. He is nothing but pure evil. It also explains why she acts the way she does. I don't know what I would have done if I were her. So now, I do think about what Hilary's been through but still don't quite know and care about about her. She's still to nasty, controlling, and deceitful to Joe. I slightly feel for her now, but still don't like her. I also would love to know, what her plain is going to really be in the end. So other than us getting to see everyone's point of views we get to meet Joe's sister Kate. Kate shows up with her sassy mouth and full of secrets leaving you right away wondering what she's up to. Joe isn't to happy about her appearance either. He's not to happy with her, she has been gone for two years without one word or a phone call. Joe has no idea where shes been or what shes been up to letting and making sure she knows how he had put out a missing persons report on her when she just left. You can tell he cares but doesn't trust her either sense they didn't exactly get along growing up. She seems to shockingly know things for someone who Joe hasn't seen or spoken to in two years. One thing I do know about her and can say so far that I like is how she can't stand Hillary and how she gladly loves to torment her. She obviously has a mystery/secret to her that your waiting to find out with her. I don't know if she's going to be on the good team or bad team. Who's side is she going to be on and rooting for? Again we do know that she doesn't like Hillary at all but we still don't know much more about her. We again see that Joe does slightly care inside but that he really wants her to leave. He Wants a different life away from his parents and that includes Kate. He feels like he's a better person in Henrietta and that with her around shes going to mess everything up that he's got going on and good for him. Of course Kate will have none of it and just tells Joe "not to worry big brother" that shes just trying to help him and that she is on his side and that she really does care for him? Really again what is she up to. So along with the usual everyday Rose Gardner life we are left and hit with a big OMG, heart attack, scary and makes you worry ending that involves Nelly Kate. We are left not so nicely on the edge waiting till the next book to find out what the outcome is going to be. Not nice at all Denise lol. Now I'm really worried, something tells me our hearts are going to be braking for Nelly Kate. So like I always have said, I think Mason is A nice guy, but I am still waiting for the day that Rose, gets back with Joe and if I could this would be given more than just 5 stars. I just can't wait now to see what Joe's sister is up to and how everything's going to turn out for Nelly Kate and Everyone else including Hillary's so called pregnancy with Joe's "so called" baby . Great story Denise, I really loved this book and I'm off to read the next one. I'm sure it will be just as good and even better as the rest. It really does continues to be great each time with every next book.

Ripple of Secrets is such a turning point for these characters and this story. So much information is shared in this novella. Once again the story is told through various character POV's. Through her excellent writing DGS draws the reader into Rose's world. Great novella! I love that with the novellas in this series we get a glimpse into the other characters' POVs. They really help further develop all of the characters in the books. I am excited about the introduction of Kate and cannot wait to see what trouble she stirs up in future books. Hilary’s story broke my heart and helped me see her in a completely different light, although I still hate her. Ha. It was great having Skeeter’s perspective as well. I always want more Skeeter. Hilary’s story broke my heart and helped me see her in a completely different light, although I still hate her. Ha. It was great having Skeeter’s perspective as well. I always want more Skeeter. As per usual, the ending has me on edge for what's to come. I'm pulling for NK!

Love these Points of View for Rose, Joe, Mason, Hilary and Skeeter. Hilary’s POV.... shocking! I always love to see how characters think not just Rose and these Novellas give us that. An added bonus to this great series. Everything seems to get more and more intense with everyone which kept me excited with each turn of the page. As this series keeps going the suspense gets deeper and deeper and so many secrets to still be revealed. This novella is packed full of SECRETS! Everyone has a secret! One of my favorite parts of Denises' writing is the depth that she brings to each character. None of the main or supporting characters are left unattended. Each has their own background and storyline. I love learning more about each of the characters and watching them grow. The depth and realness of the characters pulls at your heartstrings. Denise's writing is so relatable. It is like you are reading about your bestfriend!
