Full Court Flash (Sports Illustrated Kids Graphic Novels)

Availability: Ready to download

Dash the Flash grew nearly a foot last year. Now, he's taller, faster, and stronger than everyone else. Dash out jumps defenders and sinks big shots, all the while making it look too easy. There's just one problem -- his teammates are having a hard time keeping up! His passes are missing the mark, and his friends are getting frustrated with Dash putting on a one man show. I found this book interesting and fast-moving. I am not usually interested in graphic novels but I know my students are! This is level K which makes it great for grade 2 and for students in higher grades who are not strong readers. The fact that one of the characters gave another character a hard time when he used big words was a bonus. He then explained them and they showed up in the glossary as well. This Sports Illustrated Kids graphic novel had no girls in it but that is OK for my target stu I found this book interesting and fast-moving. Brief interpersonal drama in the area a la basketball. This illustrator's style is a little closer to a manga aesthetic than others in the series, and relies more on captions than speech bubbles as a rule. This series is greasy slick and more contrived than makes me feel happy. But whatev, if the kids will read them, they're fine. Brief interpersonal drama in the area a la basketball.
