First things first - O'Donnell is a great horror writer. Across the ten stories that make up this volume, and the bonus tales added on from the subsequent vols in the series, I'd say a good half dozen are among the best horror stories I've read in a long while. They are short - so much so that it'd be a spoiler to give more than a hint of what they're about. But let's say that, after reading this, you're unlikely ever to look the same way at baseball, rainbows, exotic island getaways, mirrors, c First things first - O'Donnell is a great horror writer. But let's say that, after reading this, you're unlikely ever to look the same way at baseball, rainbows, exotic island getaways, mirrors, cans of soda, toy helicopters and model shops. He does err on the side of gore, as opposed to psychological horror, but that's fine. Where things might get problematic is in his attempts to add ... let's be polite and call it "erotica"... to the stories. It doesn't work and it doesn't fit. The characters might be doing anything - mashing potatoes, mowing the lawn, cleaning the fish tank. The fact that they're having (very samey) sex just feels nailed on to add an "adult" angle to the collection. And the stories are too good for that. Not every story suffers thus, and I'm hoping that'll be the case across the other volumes in the series. Because I'm going to be starting #2 at some point. I'll let you know how it goes...

I thought this looked like a pretty cool anthology series to start and I was right!!! Jack O’Donnell has quite the imagination. He can go from sci fi horror to flat out straight I. Your face horror. Got to say I’m hooked bought the rest of the series also. This one came with 10 stories. And each story is one in itself. Just a fun quick read. Highly recommend. Cannot wait u til the next one!
