Rating: 3.0/5.0 From the title and the cover of the book I thought this would be a very spooky horror story about spirits, but it turned out to be something else. The writing was good. The story was OK, not unique or any special though. The story is about a bully Denny who keeps threatening the 13-year-old Gracie every day on the school bus. The bullying affects Gracie and makes her have nightmares. Gracie finally tells her mom Lilly about all the bullying so she calls the cops, but does that sto Rating: 3.0/5.0 From the title and the cover of the book I thought this would be a very spooky horror story about spirits, but it turned out to be something else. Although this is a short story, it felt like a longer ad and had a wonderful suspense filled feel to it. When thirteen year old Gracie is harassed by slightly older Denny and even by his sister Teresa, Gracie is scared to death by what she knows will eventually happen. The story takes on the subject of bullying with a bit of a supernatural twist I think readers will enjoy. I hope someday the author decides to turn this book into a novel. I have always felt short stories are harder to write and it is a special treat to find one like this that is not only well written, but compelling!

Bullied everyday by an older boy, Gracie rode the bus to school in fear. She hid the torment from her mother until one day the harassment turned into a threat. There is a paranormal aspect to the story, which only adds to the suspense. If you're looking for a quick, great read, The Black Shadow is a must pick-up. Huh I liked the story and understood it was a short story but there were parts that didn't make sense. It was like there was a part missing. The only thing I can think is that the end doubled back to the middle. I don't know if that's what I'm supposed to think or if that's wrong too. This is the second book of the author Coret Carter that I laid my hands upon. Talking about, THE BLACK SHADOW, indeed picking up this book was not a disappointment for me. The author very nicely described the turmoil the young girl went through and her subsequent nightmares of a black shadowed man intruding her privacy back at home. In fact what put me down was, when I was expecting more from the story it ended abruptly. Just like a graph coming down so suddenly. I wish the author had toyed more with the idea of the mysterious black shadow and added a bit of more pages rather. Overall it was a beautifully penned thriller short story that kept me asking for more.

A spellbinding tale of terror and a mother's love In the chilling short story The Black Shadow by Corey Carter, thirteen-year-old Gracie is tormented by a bully on the bus and by a mysterious form made only of shadow at home. The story is taut and lean and crackles with suspense, and it also features a strong mother-daughter dynamic. To say much more would give away key plot elements, but I highly recommend The Black Shadow to anyone who loves horror or the supernatural—or to anyone who just love A spellbinding tale of terror and a mother's love In the chilling short story The Black Shadow by Corey Carter, thirteen-year-old Gracie is tormented by a bully on the bus and by a mysterious form made only of shadow at home. The Black Shadow is a short suspenseful story of a girl bullied by a deviously evil boy on the bus. The author succeeded in transmitting Gracie's frustration and fear onto the reader as she went through the experience. I practically wanted to hit that boy with a frying pan. I think we all fear the helplessness of being targeted by a crazy person who doesn't care about anything except tormenting us. Gracie's relationship with her mother adds a nice touch. It's a fun read, perfect for bedtime. The Black Shadow is a short suspenseful story of a girl bullied by a deviously evil boy on the bus. This short story is a great little find! I don’t want to reveal too much, but I loved how I wasn’t sure what was real or not. The characters are engaging, and there is even a little lesson on bullying. And like all good literature, the end leaves you thinking. I highly recommend this short story!

THE BLACK SHADOW is a compelling horror short story that draws the reader into its entertaining world, and makes one feel for the protagonist, Gracie. Fast-paced but not rushed in its execution, it is a very sound read that keeps the reader glued upon the page until the very end.
