I have written in previous reviews that one does not read a book or write a review in a vacuum. The reading of this book and the writing of this review is a perfect example of that hypothesis. If I had read this book thirty years ago, in the first years of my ministry, I would have likely given it a higher rating. I would have highlighted poems that I would have used for funerals. Currently, however, I am retired, seventy years old, and while considering the possibility of future funerals, I rea I have written in previous reviews that one does not read a book or write a review in a vacuum. Currently, however, I am retired, seventy years old, and while considering the possibility of future funerals, I realize that most of my life has been lived. Michael Ashby is a gifted poet and many of his poems touched my heart. Most of the poems he presented from the great poets did not. Each reader will judge the poems on his/her life experience, faith, stage of life, etc. No matter the circumstances, I believe this book is a wonderful resource. Three stars waxing

Heh. How to get more exposure to your poetry? Bundle it with a bunch of public domain poems. Doesn't matter which ones, doesn't matter if you repeat a few, or if there's some typos here and there, whatever... And I would be far kinder to this book if, interlaced with this guy's poems, he hadn't included positive comments from his website. So like after a poem, it's like "And here are some people on the internet who loved the mediocre poem you just read!" Like. The cringe. Heh. How to get more exposure to your poetry? I was looking for a poem to read for a funeral and found so many good poems to choose from. Many brought tears to my eyes ( used several tissues) and touched my heart and emotions.

These are mainly poems written by the author although there are a few poems from more known writers toward the back. Unfortunately my style and this poets style are not similar and I didn't find his poems to be enjoyable.
