Great mystery. Twenty years old drug raid killed the baby and the father. Just young police officers, there deep dark secrets. Mad, extremely talented sniper taking down the captains and London Carter investigating the killing. Who should he depend on to help him find the truth? You can't put this book down, many unexpected twists. Ending was shocking. 4.5 stars. Great mystery. Twenty years old drug raid killed the baby and the father. A man walked in, robbed the place, and then attempted to leave only to be stopped by the first police officer dispatched to the scene as a result of a teller hitting the silent alarm. The bank robber fired a shot at the officer and missed before retreating back into the bank and taking hostages. Sergeant London Carter, a sniper, and the rest of his team from the Magnolia Parrish Sheriff’s Office are tasked with dealing with the suspect and saving as many lives as possible. During the course of the operation one of their own is killed to the shock and horror of nearly every officer on scene. In the aftermath of the officer involved shooting Internal Affairs Lieutenant Bethany Riggs is brought into the lead the investigation into what happened. Was the death of Captain Landry a result of an accidental discharge by one of the snipers or was he killed by somebody else? Answering that question leads to a far bigger mystery in the new and very intense read James 516 by B. J. Bourg. Well known for his short stories and nonfiction work, this novel published by Amber Quill Press features complicated characters, plenty of action, and a mystery that works well from start to finish. The book opens in the thick of the action quickly grabbing the reader’s attention with a complicated mystery, a romantic angle, an outside threat, along with several other ingredients. The author skillfully keeps the reader tightly focused into the book as he gradually ratchets up the tension to the final page. The book is compelling and intense from start to finish and one heck of a read. When I read a book, it has to grab my interest from the very beginning. This book does that. I felt like I was actually in the book and could see what the characters were seeing. It has twists and turns that you don't expect and it keeps you wondering what's going to happen next. There were parts I wanted to hit a character because I got so caught up in the story. There is some romance in the story, but it's not over exaggerated or too much that it takes away from the story. Dealing with Police Officers getting killed left and right, finding out that they are targets from a case from 20 years ago, and never knowing where the sniper is hiding keeps these Police Officers on edge. When will the truth come out? When the book took a turn and the killer was revealed I was in shock! It definitely kept me on my toes wanting more! Being that I used to be a Police Officer this book hit close to home for me. A dead police officer or corrupt police officer are always the hardest situations you deal with. This book shows all sides of being a cop. I believe the book is very well written when it comes to explaining what happens behind the badge, good and bad.

This suspenseful book is about snipers and bent cops. I know I'm supposed to think the snipers are the good guys but the main character's ability to calmly put bullets into people's brains is just something I can't like too much. The writing isn't great, the settings are never fleshed out. I guessed who the main killer was but didn't guess the motives until the author told me, which is good. Anyway, if you're into guns, you'll really love this book. Me, not so much. This suspenseful book is about snipers and bent cops. The psychological preparation taken by a sniper was of interest in chapter 1. The gun and violence culture is not where I want to spend my time. I soon switched to the end, checked that real men rule ok and wiped it from my Kindle.

The pacing, plot twists, and realistic character portrayal in this book captivated my attention from the first scene and kept me engrossed all the way to the thrilling conclusion. The writing was seamless, dialog driven, and combined just the right amount of police procedure, mystery and romance. Overall, an excellent read.

This was a story filled with twists and turns as sniper London Carter puts his investigative skills to good use trying to find the person targeting police officers. It felt awkward and not really keeping within the flow of the story. Other than that I found the story very entertaining. The clue the killer left behind - James 516 - has the cops baffled and adds another twist to the plot. And the ending was a total shock, one I didn't see coming.

Great, intense book! What a fantastic read! I came to this book after reading all the Clint Wolf books. While I really enjoyed those books this one was so much more intense. I had the killer figured out pretty early on and the other twist, while more of a surprise, I also figured out a while before the reveal. But the ending is heart stopping, the reveal very well done. The mystery writing/construction here is top notch. Plausible clues are thrown out and viable red herrings are very well constructed. There are a few subtle clues that will lead you down the right path if you are paying attention (and naturally cynical about everything and everyone!) I couldn’t put the book down, loved the action, enjoyed the sniper lessons and cannot wait to move on to book two in the series. Bourg does a great job with the procedural elements (writing what he knows as he says in the bio info on his webpage) and that really enhances the story telling.

The case rocks the police force of Magnolia Parish and will leave the snipers with a sense of loss and betrayal. This is a good series and had me binge reading again. The stories are riveting and well written and something different from the run off the mill police procedurals. It makes a good break from the norm and focuses on a part of police work not commonly found in popular series. I would definitely recommend these to anyone who wants to read a good mystery that is a bit different.

I recommend this book to everyone who enjoys a good mystery with lots of suspense.

I don't give many books 5 stars, but this one deserves it. Hooked from beginning to end. AND WHAT AN ENDING. Magnificent. It is very common these days to feel that many an author rushes the ending, maybe because he/she is bored and wants to get onto the next project so this was a really pleasant surprise. I cannot praise this book high enough, but ..... I have to find a fault somewhere so here it is. If I never get to see the word "y'all" again it will be too soon. The author seems to be in love with this word at the detriment of taking away from the story. Maybe it is as authentic a way of speaking in Louisiana as the millions of mosquitos that plague that acreage, but it does detract as it tends to make the mind wander from the plot. But seriously, all crime/mystery fans should put this book onto their reading list. This is the 1st in a short series, and all can be read individually although as I found out, by reading the 2nd in the series prior to this one, they are better read sequentially. To emphasise: This is a MUST read.

I don't have any major complaints about this book. It was a good, solid cop mystery about a sniper who's picking off high ranking members of a police force. I like the author's style of writing and was enjoying this book until all hell broke loose at the end. I feel like I should go back and reread the last 50 pages. After reading B.J. Bourg’s Clint Wolf Series I started his London Carter Series and it does not disappoint. If anything I think it’s even better. Since Mr. Bourg has experience as a boxer, detective, and police sniper he writes brilliantly on the cases he delves into with many intriguing twists and turns. One never knows where the plot may lead you but the facts win out every time and justice is served.

The storyline and character development was done masterfully done. If you love action this is the book for you. You will be able to see the story in your mind. It is definitely a page turner. A real cliffhanger Surprise after surprise on almost every page! Policemen started getting killed and it all seemed to be tied to a 20-year-old case that had long since been closed. The mystery seems unanswerable until London digs very deeply and, in spite of pending danger, he unravels more than he ever expected.

New author for me and new character to follow. Thank you BookBub! Someone is knocking off police captains in Magnolia Parrish from hundreds of yards out. This is the start of a thriller series that has a sniper focus. The protagonist is a police sniper who is working to stop a sniper from killing cops but there is some mystery and cover-up going on as well. It was good overall and was able to surprise me at the end. I'll try out more of this series. This is the start of a thriller series that has a sniper focus.
