Azraea faces a job market that favors those with fairer skin, Kaira can't break into Caelia's exclusively male military, and Ochsner is the quintessential intern-of-all-trades, 'most qualified' of none. The three women agree to spend one more summer together, and accept a questing contract from some Gnoman businessmen to kill the Scolopendrae of the Dark Dweller’s Forest. Their post-graduation road trip leads them through far more danger than they’d anticipated - bandits, werewolves, corrupt guardsmen, and more - but as they say, "What doesn't kill you..."
