This is the perfect fall mystery to snuggle up with. Just grab a pumpkin spice latte and get cozy. Since this was the first book we spent a little time getting to know Pink and the local merchants along the main street. Pink’s flower shop is situated between the local bakery and a coffee shop. The owners have a competition for foot traffic. It was fun seeing Elsie and Les, try to one-up each other. Across the street, we have Lola who owns an antique shop and befriends Lola. Then there is a local dinner, a corner store and a boutique. Pink also befriends her sexy neighbor Dash, and annoys the handsome police detective, James Briggs. I adored the feel of the town and wanted to pack my bags. When a local competitor of the annual largest pumpkin contest is found dead, Pink cannot help but use her unusual nose to sleuth out whodunit. This was an interesting case. Pink‘s gift, curiosity, and her Nancy Drew sleuthing skills soon have her investigating and consulting with Briggs. The pets...I love Pink's pets and their stories and how they came to live with her quickly made her someone I'd like to hang with. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

A very attractive cover and the price was right so I decided to read the book. I had never read this author and I was curious. This the first book in the Port Danby series. She is returning home one day when she found a woman with her head in a smashed pumpkin. The woman is dead and she meets the detective and gives him several clues that her nose is able to detect. It isn't long before she accompanied the detective as he explores the case. Is the pumpkin contest the motive in the killing? There is a side story running along about a twenty-year-old murder where a man shot his wife and two children and then himself. This story interested Pink and she decided to find out more.

She really had quite the audacity to butt into a crime scene and police investigation with absolutely no motive to do so besides the fact that she has a strong sense of smell and loved mysteries as a child, it just felt weird and insensitive. I was vaguely interested in learning more about the spooky house in the community and the main characters relationship with her neighbor but not enough to really want to pick it up. Maybe I’ll pick this up again and finish it one day but I really have no desire to right now, so DNF pile it goes!

A short cozy mystery that can be read within a few hours. Lacey has super nose powers, and she is opening her flower shop in the new town she has moved into. When she stumbles upon a crime scene, she gets involved in investigating the murder. Even though, detective Briggs asks her to stop snooping around, he comes to rely on her findings. The side characters were pretty solid and quirky. Looking forward to reading more from this series.

Obnoxious I wanted to like Marigolds and Murder more than I actually did. 1. Pink's age is very unbelievable. 28 years old with medical school loans, her own house and remodeled store, and she never complains or panics about bills? And she has the spare cash to go out to eat at more expensive local restaurants and for $4 organic eggs? W h a t. (To top it off, Pink mentions concern at jaywalking in front of a police station like a senior citizen and its not a joke.) I purchased small pink pots with Pink's Flowers printed around the side." (I hope they were really cheap, Pink.) Ok, fine, life's short. Let the anachronism slide and keep reading, right? 2. Pink makes a lot of mundane leaps of logic based on absolutely nothing that always end up being correct: "Theresa managed to chew the gum between every other word. She had the skill quite mastered, leading me to believe that she chewed gum a lot. It made my jaw tired watching her." "It was mid fall but his face and arms were tanned, which probably meant he worked at the marina." "Her fingers were red and raw as if she spent a lot of time washing dishes or gardening. The sunburn on her nose seemed to indicate the latter." "Something told me he was a man who rarely raised his voice and for that matter, rarely showed emotion. He'd walked onto the scene as if he was walking into a market for a quart of milk, as if finding a dead woman in a pumpkin patch happened every day. Which, from the nervous fidgeting of his partner, I could only assume was not true." 3. It took 45 pages out of a 176 page murder mystery for the murder and mystery to start. When it did, Pink was very pushy with her curiosity and she made even more leaps of logic. Pink is too obnoxious for me. I'm out.

A cozy mystery with a heroine that has a talented nose. I really enjoyed this different way of solving murder. The story is a well-written cozy, with good looking men, new friends and a set of quirky characters in the small town. I will be reading more from this series.

3.5 -rounding up. I really enjoyed Lacey as a character - very spunky (and also, love this cover! as an unrelated note). Okay, I know these books aren't known for being realistic but this girl straight up touched the dead body at a crime scene right in front of a police officer, and then continued on touching evidence all over the place for the entire book. Someone stop her 😂 Still a fun read though, I feel like cozy mysteries are the book version of games like Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon, I love living in a big city 99% of the time but the escapism is still nice. 3.5. A fun cozy mystery. Pink with her super nose and nosiness is the yin to the yang of Detective Briggs. You get the flavor of small town life on the coast. All the riding around on a bike, the gossip, everybody knowing everyone's business. The novel has an episodic feel to it and many of the characters could easily make a reappearance in the upcoming novel in the series. It's only the ending that felt too easy and sudden. A little more "nose job" could have made it a 4 for me. 3.5. A fun cozy mystery. Pink with her super nose and nosiness is the yin to the yang of Detective Briggs. 3.5 Stars I enjoyed this first book of the Port Danby Series by London Lovett. I think the series will just get better with each book as I get more invested in the characters and the town. And the marigolds from the title and the story down in the left near the title. The cartoon of the author center top just above her name. The colors are bright without making my eyes water. The story was really cute and caught my attention. I liked the triangle that didn’t get too close in this book, just added some romantic tension and interest. A handsome next-door neighbor and a sexy detective to play with, what more could a girl new-to-town want? Lacey Pinkerton has both, and she’s making friends right and left. Well, the town’s mayor doesn’t seem to like her or her pet crow, Kingston. But she’s making so many friends that he can’t get the Town Council to vote to ban crows from the downtown area. An unusual way to get involved in the murders at least, a super sensitive nose, hyperosmia. She literally sniffs out the bad guy! The pace was fast and the tension stayed high on the crime as well as the personal relationships, of which there are plenty as Lacey, or Pink as she likes to be called, gets to know her new town and its inhabitants. I liked it so much I immediately read the second book in the series, then the third, and fourth, and fifth. I now have all ten books in the series and am really looking forward to reading the second half of the series. I highly recommend this series if you love cute, fun cozies with personable characters and interesting stories.

I just discovered a little gem by London Lovett called Marigolds and Murder, and I also noticed there are two more coming soon! I loved this book! I love how there are amazing characters like Lacey 'Pink' Pinkerton, a young woman who earned a 6 figure income in a perfume factory, and just gave it up to move to a quiet village. It isn't long until Lacey and her nose sniff out so great clues for the detective, however she is doing her own investigation as well. I loved this book because there are many minor characters and a plot that keeps twisting so I did not stop reading it until I was finished. There is a cast of suspects that she slowly crosses off the list with Detective James Briggs and between the Detective and Lacey's nose they solve the crime! This is a great start to the series and I can't wait to read the next one, Carnations and Chaos! I gave this book 5*****stars and have added ondon Lovett to my go to one click authors.

Probably because her fantastic sniffer helps him out on more than one occasion. On the downside, sniffing out clues can be wearing especially when dealing with bodies. And when doesn't a flower shop owner in a quirky seaside town deal with bodies? (The answer is OFTEN! They often deal with dead bodies. SO MANY DEAD BODIES.) Port Danby is fun. I want more on the deserted house up the street and maybe less on the handsome neighbor (not his fault, but the fault of one hunky detective). I like London Lovett's other series, so I thought I'd give this one a try. I liked the added dash of humor and I appreciate that she avoided some of the annoyances in cozy novels (like hiding clues from the police and being an overall dimwit), I've bought the rest of the series and I'm looking forward to reading them. Just OK. A cute, fun read but not much to it. I do always like a small town setting and it was a lovely setting. I did particularly like that the main character has hyperosmia, a heightened sense of smell, and this helps her solve the murder. Something a little different. The reveal felt very rushed.
