SymptoPro™ is a Sympto-Thermal Method of fertility charting, based on changes in a woman’s cervical mucus, waking or resting temperature, and cervix. These observable signs change in response to the hormones of the menstrual cycle. It only takes seconds a day for a woman to track her fertility; then the couple interprets the chart and makes a decision based on their family planning intentions. SymptoPro™ works through periodic abstinence during the method-defined fertile time for couples who are avoiding a pregnancy and focused intercourse for those trying to achieve. SymptoPro™ can be used effectively throughout a woman’s entire reproductive life. Regular cycles are NOT required. SymptoPro™ is NOT Calendar Rhythm. A Couple’s Guide to Fertility is an instruction book only to be used in conjunction with Northwest Family Services’ SymptoPro Fertility Education course. A Couple’s Guide to Fertility does not carry any level of effectiveness in preventing or enabling a pregnancy. In order to achieve stated levels of effectiveness, you should take a class and use the assistance of a certified SymptoPro Instructor. I read this book in conjunction with the SymptoPro course in Fertility Awareness. I wanted to understand my body better and understand how to use my natural symptoms throughout my cycle to track my health and fertility. This book and the course I took gave me the tools I needed to do that, even if I found the sections on abstinence and the fertility awareness “lifestyle” a little bit hokey and preachy. I wanted to understand my body better and understand how to use my natural symptoms throughout my cycle to track my health and fertility. This book and the course I took gave me the tools I needed to do that, even if I found the sections on abstinence and the fertility awareness “lifestyle” a little bit hokey and preachy. I’m glad to know that I don’t have to resort to pumping myself full of hormones and/or implanting foreign objects in my body in order to be able to avoid pregnancy. When used correctly, this method and others like it have been found to be something like 99.7% effective. For those of you keeping track, that’s better efficacy than the pill. It’s involved and requires a bit of dedication, but it’s worth it to me. I wish I’d learned how to do this twenty years ago. For people who menstuate, our cycle patterns are as important a health indicator as blood pressure or heart rate. If for no other reason than to track our own health, we should develop an understanding of what is normal for us, what isn’t, and what changes we can expect over our lifetime. Ask me about it if you have questions!

While overall a good resource, there is still very much a religious bias in the last chapter. Unmarried folks can use this method too!
