The Hex Files : Wicked Long Nights by Gina LaManna and narrated by Allyson Ryan is a real my awesome world with supernatural creatures of all kind. Our main character is a witch that works part time for a special unit of the police force. There is some smoking hot characters, some evil ones that are causing bodies to disappear from the morgue, and more. The is magic, curses, action, travel by broomstick (YES!), and romance. I definitely enjoyed it. Great narration!

Ah..what's a gal to do...the vampire or the werewolf??? that centuries old dilema of a love triangle. at least, there was some explanation of Dani's past as well as the inanimate objects in her apt. to be honest, i'm not a big fan of story points which are drawn out over several books. Another action packed installment of the Mysteries from the Sixth Borough series. More answers and more questions as we follow Dani & Matthew’s hunt for Lucia. Looking forward to more adventures!

I think I'm loving this series even more than the Magic and Mixology !! Dani and Matthew have a great chemistry and Gina writes them so well. Each book leads very nicely into the next. I listened to the audio book which goodreads doesn’t have as a choice. Not a bad story good enough to listen to while driving or doing chores.

The mystery is still fascinating, the narration is still amazing. I still love the characters. Any one of these things may not be great, but the blend together perfectly. Highly recommend the audio of this series. The mystery here is probably my favorite of the series.

Did Lucia run away or is it more than that? There is so much involved in trying to solve the mysteries in this book and to see if somehow in this crazy 6th borough of NYC they come together you just can't put this book down! Not only is Lucia missing, but so are 3 bodies from the morgue and there is a dangerous herb on the market that could be killing people and there is also people thinking they are seeing dead people, even though necromancy is illegal in the borough. Since Dani felt responsible for the missing new Reserve Officer, Lucia whom she trained, she comes out of retirement to help the Captain find out what happened to her. Having a past relationship with the Captain and not over her feelings makes this case even harder together with the fact that the Captain can't get over their breakup either. You are totally surprised at the ending and never guess who the person responsible for so much is! And what about Lucia? And why is Matthew so afraid to have Dani go into the Hex Files? What significance do they have? This is a must read series I received and ARC from the author but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

This book (and series) has a good mixture of components. There is of course, the paranormal/supernatural (witches and sorcerers and the like) aspect. There is some romance. There is also a good and complex mystery. It's not a comedy, but there is some humor in it (mostly coming from the characters sarcastic snark.) This is book two in the series. The mystery is new (though it partially starts in book one,) but there are some bits that carry through between the books. I wouldn't say you need to read book one first, but you'll have more insight if you do. There is a little more emotion in this one.. in the romance department and in the internal battles the Protagonist has going on. Donn't worry you won't need a Kleenex. The characters, while all have some form of Supernaturalness about them, they are also real. They are complex and well rounded, and each unique. As for the crimes, there is magic but at the same time it all feels like 'the real world.' The central crime in this book is about drugs (both selling and using) and deaths as a result of it. It starts as Dani (the heroine) continues her investigation into the missing officer (which actually takes place in book one.) We see a little more of Grey (who was a suspect in book one,) and the start of the friendship between him and Dani. It's a well thought out story with many different avenues to follow. There are some thriller aspects of it as well. It is a clean read, (sex is only alluded to.) Safe for teens and up.

The author has once again integrated her readers in the life of Dani and her friends to the point that you feel like you are actually going with her from place to place. The result for me was I could barely put the book down late into the night to stop and sleep! Once again, the author has written a fabulous book that exceeds anyone's hopes. I love the undercurrent mysteries she includes in each book and how slowly more details are being revealed to us. I can't recommend this series enough-just be sure to read the books in order so the details all add up for you!

Fortunately, there were only 2 weeks between book 1 and 2 so I could dive right in. I think this is my new favorite series by Gina LaManna (but I always say this when she starts a new one), and I really enjoy the dynamics of Dani and her ex-boyfriend Captain Matthew King. It is clear they both love each other but Dani first has to get her feelings in order. Their break-up caused so much hurt she wants to shield herself. Favorite quotes of Matthew: "I would never give the life of a vampire up if it means more time with her. When her time - our time together - comes to an end, that will be all for me, as well. I have nothing left on earth to live for after such things." "I was supposed to meet Danielle. She makes me .. she is the person I've been born to meet. The person I've been waiting to love my entire life. " Yes, Matthew is an eternal vampire. That is the only issue I have with the story. I makes my heart ache because Dani is mortal and he is a vampire. But on the other hand: I LOVE THESE TWO!

Plus the book ends with a great new cliffhanger - is this all due to The Hex Files?

Hidden Agendas An interesting story with lots of subplots and twists. The mystery was well written but I was getting a bit tired of Dani whining about the problems of her current love life and past love life or lack of. If Ed Wood Jr wrote a book, it would be a lot like this. With all the hallmarks of a Z movie - stilted dialogue; inane, pointless plot; shallow character development (no character development); awkward character interactions; horrible acting - this felt like someone actually took the time to novelize a Poverty Row production. And much like C or Z movies I just could not look away and actually made it to the end, wondering half the time if the (lack of) quality was intentional. And much like those sloppy, haphazard movies I felt almost empty at the end. This series ends here as far as my readership, unless someone decides to undertake the daunting task of making these into some literary version of MST3K. In fact, that would be fabulous. Someone please do that. Then I'll happily read the rest of the series without the disappointment.

I really liked this book and thought it definitely offered more insight into the characters than the first (i.e. Dani's past). Definitely solid story line and easy to follow intents. I still have the criticism of how the main love interests are portrayed as being totally incapable of self control and a sense of "she's mine and only mine" which we see in a lot of alpha male books. Is LaManna veering too far into cliche'd territory? Let's read book 3 and find out. Probably 2 1/2. I liked this a little less than the first book. I'm not sure why. It was a good mystery. Matthew and Dani's relationship continues to be up and down and shows the real impediments of being involved with someone you also work with, even if you are not reporting to them. Some of the more ugly side of policing is also seen into this book. This series is a lot more complex than just a mystery to solve. It has problems that common people can relate to just set in an unique place.

a solid second installment This book picks up right where the first one left off, but with a whole new case for our favorite detective and captain. The characters are as well flushed-out as ever, and the mystery really kept me going until the final reveal. Hooked on the 6th Borough I just finished this book and am already anticipating the next one! GL keeps pulling me into the world of the Isle, Magic Inc, and now Wicked and I couldn’t be happier. The character development continues as our favorites from book 1 continue to fight for justice in Wicked and this story does not disappoint! I am happily awaiting the next releases in all of GL’s series’s... so, if you are on the fence about any of this author’s work, take the plunge, it is Wicked good!

With that ending, WOW! Let me start off by saying I despise romance novels, I just do. They are not my slice of pizza. I do, however, enjoy urban fantasy, a whole friggin lot! I really enjoy this world Gina has created. This overall was a very good story, except for Dani's constant assumptions. The very ending of this book made it worth Dani's annoying assuming throughout the whole book, in fact, it made me outright GIDDY. Who is after her?! What are the hex files?! Gonna LaManna can do no wrong! There's not a single Gina LaManna book I haven't read, and I truly adore each series. But The Hex Files is really something extra special. Whelp hoopla recommended I check out the second book immediately after so I did. 7 hours of driving on the docket made it a definite. Still not necessarily my cup of tea for the heavy push of romance but the detective portions are entertaining enough. Some more bitd of information on the species of this world but still a lack on the magic system and how it works. More major misunderstanding due to main characters jumping to conclusions and cutting people off before they finish speaking. I’m really struggling to get into this series which makes me sad because I love all things Gina Lamanna. In this book, we detective demarco explores Lucia’s disappearance and her relationship with grey and the captain. The mystery in this one didn’t really jump out at me. It kind of felt like we were trudging from point a to point b. I was almost ready to give up on the series until the little tidbit about the hex files popped in at the end. I really like reading books by Gina LaManna.. This book was good and I love the imagination and detail that went into this book. I will say it started out a little slow for me, but by the end I couldn't put this book down. The romantic lunatic in me wanted more to happen between Dani and Matthew. I don't feel complete and I'm hoping in book 2 things will end on a happy note between those two. I also liked Grey and my heart was breaking for him, hope we see more of him. Mystery, magic, a little chemistry...fantastic read. Fantastic! I loved the Magic & Mixology stories, but this story even more firmly entrenches The Hex Files in my heart. Dani is just as sassy and brilliant as ever. She and Matthew are just as emotionally lost as before. Grey, Willa, the De Marcos, Sienna, Felix even more fleshed out. I loved it. It is part of a series but the mystery is a stand alone.
