I have a good friend’ The beautiful Israeli children's books author, Sigal Adler, just keeps adding to her now rather impressive number of books for children. Each of her books was written in Hebrew and as they became best sellers in Israel she decided to have them translated into English to benefit an even broader range of children. As always Sigal's rhyming style is delightful. The stories are not only entertaining but they also carry some subtle messages to those children fortunate enough to read them - or have them read to them. The books are enhanced by one the top illustrators Harry Aveira. In her usual excellent rhyming pattern Sigal brings on some of her favorite characters – monsters - and we meet Lily the blue monster and Chase the purple monster shopping for seeds in a nursery and happening upon a nursery sale of carrot seeds. The nurseryman asks which of the two is the better gardener – Lily claims she is, and the contest is on! Both plant their carrot seeds, and while Lily’s carrot tops grow taller, Chase’s carrots (beneath the ground) are bigger and when the contest is over, Chase has won – but Lily’s pride resolves and they both declare their friendship is far more important than a carrot race! A fun story with a solid message beautifully illustrated - and Sigal Adler successfully adds to her repertoire of fine children's books.
