A rather average cookbook, honestly, and very obviously self-published (not well proofed). Not a bad collection, but overall rather underwhelming. Pros: * It's actually a good range of recipes - main courses, sides, desserts, a few drinks. * All the recipes are from Harry Potter (either books or movies or both), not just vaguely "inspired by." The introduction to each recipe includes some reference to where each originates - I always love seeing that in a literary cookbook. Cons: * The formatting is A rather average cookbook, honestly, and very obviously self-published (not well proofed). Not a bad collection, but overall rather underwhelming. There were some spaces skipped; extra spaces elsewhere; some recipes started after a page break, but not all of them did. That sort of thing. * Measurements are inconsistent. The same ingredient might be in grams in one recipe (more common in European recipes) and in ounces or in Tbsp/tsp/cups in the next. Sugar, for example, might be in cups, ounces, or grams, depending on the recipe. Even water was measured out as 125 grams in one recipe! Just pick one and stick with it throughout! * No extra information or instruction. Caster sugar, for example, is not common in the US - at least under that name. You have to look for superfine sugar, baker’s sugar, or bar sugar, but there's no note on that anywhere. * Proofreading. Steps are left out of recipes (Mince Pies, for example), and all of the ingredients are missing in the Toffee recipe! * The whole book is pretty basically laid out. No side bars, no extra instruction. No magic, really! It's simply just a collection of recipes.

A bit dry, a bit rushed. Sure it's a recipe book, but it wouldn't have hurt too much to add a little bit of magic to spice up the language in here. Just saying that something was mentioned in the books or the movies doesn't really add much spark to a relatively bland cookbook. It's all text, so there's no clever food photography to tie it in, and in one case, the English toffee, the ingredients were left out completely. Looks Fun My grandkids have been reading the Harry Potter books, as have I, and enjoying the stories. I had to pick up the Harry Potter's Cookbook by Roy Murray because it offers such a unique avenue to bring the Harry Potter world to life for these kids. I've selected the recipes to try, and now we will be planning our first Harry Potter dinner. Can't wait. More traditional than expected This recipe book mostly included underwhelming but classic English recipes with one or two interesting new ideas. Still worth it for fans (and a great resource to entice young chefs into cooking) but those planning a themed party might want to look elsewhere.

Tasty A series of traditional British foods that are mentioned in the Harry Potter books, along with a couple of not so well known things that seem tasty. Useful for those who wish to have a themed meal.
