What a stupid book. From the title you'd think this was a collection of short stories, or a discussion about girls in literature and why they are "courageous". Nope. It lists books like Little women, The little princess, Anne of Green Gables, etc., gives a short paragraph about the book ("Little women is about the March sisters and how they grow up under the loving guidance of their mother"), and then ONE short scene (4- 10 pages worth) from the book. It is not a "satisfying excerpt" as the description says, and it doesn't say anything about what makes the girl courageous. In short, this book should be called "random chapters from some books with girls in them". It will appeal to people who already know the stories, but that's about it. It probably won't make new readers want to search out the original book; I'd say if you want a child to read the actual story, just give them the actual story!

Let me just say as a 31 year old woman I don't think I am the target audience. However these short little bits from some of the most classic novels with ionic female characters are brilliant but it didn't really do anything different in terms of these type of compendium books.
