Kinda silly thinking about the Joker’s role in all this, but still a captivating issue nonetheless.

Tomasi, Walker, Hennessy, and Fairbairn hit it out of the park with this one. This issue feels like the creative team is channeling the Alan Grant & Norm Breyfogle Batman comics of my childhood, with a dash of Brian Bolland thrown in. Telling the origin story of a new self-styled hero (but maybe a villain?) with gorgeous, clean art that you just want to linger on and drink in (c’mon, check out that crazy riot/delivery scene! And that batarang moment! Wow!). This comic brings me back to the versi Tomasi, Walker, Hennessy, and Fairbairn hit it out of the park with this one. If Tomasi and gang keep this up, I may finally be back on the Batbooks as a regular reader.

Goodness, what an interesting idea. This issue gets into the history of the Arkham Knight, and their origin is very well told. It is a struggle to swallow some revelations, like Joker's role in it all, and the artwork can be a tad distracting. But I was very interested in the rest of this story. A lengthy origin story about a character I don't care about...yuck. A lengthy origin story about a character I don't care about...yuck.
