As I read the blurb for Her Betrothal I knew I was in for a treat of a story! I love PNR shifter books and add in the royalty, the secrets, the lies, the obligation and duty, as well as all the craziness that comes with an arranged marriage, I was hooked from the start. I loved the world building, the set-up of the story in Her Betrothal and future stories in The Royal Shifters series. I greatly enjoyed getting to know Annalise and the history of the kingdom. Very slow. Though I’m hopeful some of the more err... lusty thoughts become reality as the series unfolds. ~ Missy, 4 stars

Unknown to Annalise, her father has already given her to the mysterious Damien, a cruel and powerful lord who has his own purposes for marrying her. Here is my main problem with the book- if I do not like the characters it is hard for me to enjoy a book. I was not at all invested in Annalise or her problems- which she had a large amount of. As the main character in a story you should feel some kind of emotional attachment to the ingenue, but I didn't, no matter how hard I tried. I am not really certain what my issue was besides her non-stop incredibly stupid and ridiculous choices (like to sleep naked on the floor with three giant wild animals she just encountered... yeah, still makes no sense and was so awkward.), but it seemed a little like she was missing a personality of her own- more a puppet for whatever man came around. I did like the men/animals more and I liked the brief chapters that were told from their points of view, they seemed level headed and really interesting. Another thing that made this a hard read for me was the back and forth writing style the author used. An event would occur for  Annalise   and then a new chapter would start but it would tell the same exact event from one of the men's points of view, sometimes retelling it three times from each of the men. It was confusing for me to follow and I felt like I understood what was going on enough without the back tracking. After reading the story, I still have no real idea what is going on or the purpose of anything. This felt more like a set up book, where the world is introduced but not a whole lot else, and I am sure that the next book will have more reveals. The ending was a cliffhanger where the group has no resolution to the problems but with a direction for the next book in the series to take. I will not be continuing with the series but I am sure others will love this book and the magic filled world. This would be a good read for Reverse Harem fans in general, as well as fans of the Power of Five Series by and Wolf Tamer by Yumoyori Wilson. I received a complimentary copy of this title. I don't know who is that on the cover, because the protagonist is a 18 year old princess that knows nothing of the world, she seems and behaves like an insecure and naive little girl. The only daring thing she does is to try to escape and that was a plan so stupid and poorly thought that even runing with no plan or destination would have made more sense! I somewhat liked her relationship with the felines, but that is it. Hated her father. Hated her governess. Hated her betrothed (ovbiously). It's been months since Annalise's father asked for her and almost a full year since he's spoken to her. When Damien arrives and after the ceremony to announce the wedding will take place, Annalise is given three large snow leopards as part of her wedding gifts from her betrothed. They're very unusual, one with blue eyes, one with green eyes, and one with amethyst eyes. By now in the story you're hooked, just face it. Alice Ward has created a kingdom within a magical word that will take you on a rollercoaster ride through an intricate plot filled with characters so complex and multi-dimensional you'll be amazed. This is definitely a great story and what appears to be a tremendous series. One to watch and follow closely.

This book had the potential to be interesting, or at least I found that of the blurb had intriguing elements. But the heroine, who is the main voice of the story, comes across as a petulant teenager instead of a young woman on the cusp of marriage and perhaps co-ruling her kingdom. The book uses the first-person present point-of-view, but the author didn't seem to have a mastery of how to use tenses in this viewpoint, so they were sometimes wrong, which was jarring when they occurred. In general, I am not a fan of the first-person present point-of-view for several reasons, including this one. I think that it is actually distancing because it is so unusual. I read so many books in the third-person past that the viewpoint doesn't even make much of a blip on my radar unless the author gets confused with tenses or calls attention to it in another way. I think authors mistakenly believe that the first-person present gives a book a greater sense of immediacy, but for me, I have never felt that to be the case. The book had other issues as well. It has some strange problems with grammar, punctuation, and usage; commas seemed particularly problematic. I felt like the book was slow to start and quite repetitive. Much could have been cut out or condensed, which made of made this story tighter and better. As I was reading along, I felt like I was just waiting for something to actually happen; I don't like that feeling in a book. I feel like this book could have used both a developmental editor and a copy editor/proofreader. I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review. I was immediately drawn to this story. I love the world building, the characters are so fantastic and diverse, you have shifters, good magic, bad magic, Scottish Laird, Viking Jarl, and a Chinese Emperor heirs and a princess. In the start of this story, Annalise is called in to see her father, whom she hasn't seen in a year. What she sees is a shrunken husk of a man who somewhat resembles her Papa. When he tells her that she will be married to a total stranger within a certain time, she rebels. She is then told that if she doesn't marry before he dies, she will most likely be put out of the palace with nothing. She had thought that she would be allowed to marry for love, but she was told that is foolishness. She had always be trained to be a female, whose job is to please her husband and to bear him heirs. They don't need to know anything about politics or languages. When her betrothed shows up, she is basically put under house arrest in her room along with three white snow panthers she was gifted by her fiance. She somehow knows that she is safe with these panthers. She actually pulls her bedding down to the floor so she can sleep between two of the panthers, one with blue eyes and the other with green eyes. One of them, the one with the violet eyes, mainly keeps his back to her and stays as far away from her that he can. She dreams about them that they turn to men and she can see them and learns their names. They even help her to escape, only for them to be caught again. Roan, green eyes, is the son of a Scottish Laird who is also a shifter. Ero, ice blue eyes, was the son of a Viking Jarl. Li, violet eyes, was the only son of the Chinese Dragon Dynasty Emperor. They were each kidnapped to be used for their magic. While in captivity, they never aged. In human form, they are all taller and stronger than most men. Roan has red hear, Ero has white hair and Li has black hair. Damien is Annalise's betrothed and on the outside he is a tall man who is very good looking, but he is pure evil inside. He is the one who has kidnapped the three royal shifters and uses their magic to enthrall others. He is brutal to both men and women and has been trying to break a curse, or rather to bring a curse to life by using the shifter's magic to find the one royal woman who can start the curse that will suck the life out of everything and make him more powerful until he rules the world. In this story, the characters are introduced, the story line is unfolding and the good royals are trying to escape to fight Damien and stop the curse from starting/happening. Annalise is a princess who has had everything handed to her on a silver platter and has been educated in a woman's role in life. She's called to her father, and he tells her that it is time for her to be married as he is dying. She's been promised to a man she's never met. During dinner, he brings in 3 snow leopards and tells her they will be her guards/companions until the day of the wedding. Li, Ero, and Roan have been stuck in their snow leopard forms, Damien's captives, for longer than they can remember. All 3 are from different areas of the world, but the shifter gene is one of the things they have in common. They've been used by Damien for years trying to get them to bond with a woman in order to help him gain more power. As they grow closer to Annalise, they know they can't let Damien know how they feel, but how can they protect her without him finding out? This is the first book I've read by Alice. I thought the premise of the series sounded interesting so I decided to pick up the entire series. I was not disappointed. Annalise is definitely what you picture a spoiled princess to be. She's strong, yet vulnerable. Dependent, but has an independent streak a mile long. Damien is just plain evil incarnate. Roan, Ero & Li are each unique, but I didn't find myself totally connecting with them. I wanted a bit more backstory on them, but without giving any spoilers, it does appear in future books. I also wanted to know how Annalise came to be on Damien's radar. (This may be in one of the future stories, but as I'm still reading them, I don't know if this will get answered for me or not.) Story does include violence, including sexual violence so if this is not something you enjoy or bothers you, you will not want to pick this up. Book 1 ends on a cliffhanger of course, which does leave you wanting to know what happens next.

I like how kind an innocent Annalise start out to be but stays true to her character with a wild streak that leaves her leopards wanting more of her. She does grow as character as the plots start to unravel. This book does start off slow but stick to it, it gets full of surprises throughout the series. This is a really slow burn reverse harem but worth the wait. I got trapped in the world that Alice Wilde has created and could not but it down, read the whole series that is full of action and had me on the edge of my seat. Overall a must-read series. Fantastic world-building, if you love royalty, shifters, magic and unexpected twist and turns, this is defiantly the series for you! Each book gets you a closer look in to each of the men as they fight for their queen and the ultimate goal of defeating a greater evil.

“Her Betrothal” started slow for me. I had to put it down a couple of times, BUT, from the moment that Annalise found out she was getting married to a foreigner and a stranger to boot I was hooked! I have to read the whole series. Little things that don’t seem important to the story are taken for granted, but I see it as black magic that Damien is using. The main characters are an interesting mix, there is the evil Damien, the innocent Annalise, and her three leopards, that may or may not be shifters. If they are is Annalise their fated mate. If not did Damien turn them into leopards? The three leopards are different nationalities and speak different languages. I don't read much PRN romance, but I have to admit I'm intrigued. My only real problem with the story is the repetition. Will get on chapter from Anna's POV. Then get thay same chapter from the leopards' POVs. And within that same chapter, get the chapter 3 times from each individual leopard. In some cases, I just skimmed or skipped the other 2 leopards' POVs because I knew I wouldn't learn anything new. Damien and his obsession with this dark prophecy is what has really drawn me in. Annalise is still very young, but a firecracker. She's a fighter and has a big heart. I'm interested to see how she plans to save her kingdom. This is book one of five and ends on a cliffhanger. ONE INCREDIBLE READ!!! Wow! Talk about hitting the ground running. This is one action packed, fast paced, nailbiting, hard hitting, pulse racing, heart pounding, smooth flowing, page turning bombshell that grabs your attention from the start. Alice Wilde is a fairly new author to me and this is such a fantastic read and look at that cover isn’t it gorgeous?. Annalise is the heir to the throne but thanks to her father’s decree she won’t be able to rule without a husband, her father has promised her hand to an evil man and let me tell you that Annalise is not happy about this arranged marriage at all. Annalise finds herself in a sticky situation. Her father is ailing. Possibly dying. And he's betrothed her to a stranger. A man she doesn't know. A man rumoured to be cruel and a womanizer. When her intended arrives, Annalise becomes a prisoner in her own home and is torn away from the few allies she has. Her father won't hear the truth of her concerns. Something is very off-putting about her intended. The only solace Annalise has are in the three snow leopards gifted to her by her intended. Annalise mus Annalise finds herself in a sticky situation. Annalise is one strong, kick-ass, take no for an answer woman. She just wants to rule, but her dying father has decreed that no women shall rule. In doing so, he has arranged to marry her off some unknown villain. However, with the help of her special furry men in disguise, she will fight to be free and save her rule. The was the first book I've read from this author and it really kept me glued to every page. Full of action, drama, suspense, and love, it was an excellent read. Her Betrothal by Alice Wilde is the first book in The Royal Shifters series. In this book, a princess named Annalise is betrothed to a horrible man named Damien. At their betrothal dinner Damien gifts Annalise with three snow leopards. This is the beginning of a unique story of a woman who plans to escape from a forced marriage at any cost. The main character Annalise is very likable and the story has several mysteries and is full of suspense that builds with every page you read. So I've always been one to never leave spoilers I can't stand them it's like having someone telling you the punchline to a joke or the best part to a suspenseful movie.

A great start to a series of 5 books. Princess Annalise is a free-spirited young lady until disaster strikes. Her father is seriously ill and has decided to give her up to Lord Damien Godfrey, a man she has never met. She soon discovers that he is cruel and mean and looks for an opportunity to avoid marriage. The 3 leopards she got from Damien are not what she thinks. They are shifters trying to save her. A good start so far It was a little slow in the beginning. It felt like the story was stuck waiting for . . . What her father to die, the wedding? It was just a lot of repetition or back and forth that could have been left out of the plot all together to help the story move along in the character development. Little things were added like they were going to amount to something, but didn't (licorice tea she was forced to drink). It was an interesting story, just felt like it didn't get very far by A good start so far It was a little slow in the beginning. It felt like the story was stuck waiting for . . . I've been on a RH kick lately, and was excited to find this one. It looked just different enough, but still close to others that I really enjoyed that I was excited to start. That said, I struggled through parts of this one. The premise and overall story were good, but I struggled to connect with the characters and therefore diddn't care about the plot until later in the story. Still, by the end I started to really enjoy it, and I'm excited to see what happens next! I received a free copy of this I've been on a RH kick lately, and was excited to find this one.
