Definitely more than 5 stars. First, let me say: Outlander what? Jamie Fraser has nothing on Will Durham. Now that's out of the way, what an amazing story! The concept and premise are original and intriguing: special waters that cure all maladies and allow one to slip back in time? As far-fetched as it sounds, the author did an amazing job with plausibility, setting up the science behind it and the proof that goes with it. As far-fetched as it sounds, the author did an amazing job with plausibility, setting up the science behind it and the proof that goes with it. Marian is a scientist looking for a cure for her sister. When her father falls into a coma, she travels to England to find out what happened. And that's when she starts having "visions" of a man in another time. William Durham lives with the guilt of his half brother's death, even though it wasn't his fault. He knows war and the pain that comes from it, but when he sees an intriguing woman in what he thinks are visions, he's surprised at the peace she brings to his mind and heart. When Marian slips back into 1381, she's confronted with real danger she didn't plan for. Will saves her and soon offers her marriage for added protection. The realities of life in the late Middle Ages are a shock but the longer she spends in this time with Will, the less she wishes to return. The writing is excellent and the story is absolutely unputdownable. I can't wait for the next book in the series! I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

That’s as technical as it gets, which works fine for me because once I met Sir William Durham, I didn’t really care how or why the heroine Marian Creighton gets there. I just wanted to read about their blossoming romance because sweet mercy! Will gets the swoon-worthy badge of the year for sure. The story starts out just a hair too slow for my tastes, but once you’re hooked, go ahead and order Dominoes for dinner for a few nights because you’re not going to put this one down.

'What had she gotten herself into?' I have been a fan of Jody Hedlund's since her first book, which still sits on my shelves. So, of course, I want to read everything she writes. Boy, was I in for a surprise! rted back to 1381 England. Well, that did it for me. I love the medieval setting and Hedlund has proven more than once that she does this genre well indeed. Will Durham, a most valiant knight, rescues Marian from a beating and offers her protection as his wife. His wife! Wait a minute! The ramifications of this particular situation could be long reaching and possibly very uncomfortable. But Marian goes along with it, hoping that she an get back to the present day with the vials of holy water needed to heal her father, who is in a coma, and her sister, who has a genetic disease. Then, on top of everything else, England is in the midst of a dangerous peasant uprising. (Hedlund does her research well and includes actual historical events in all her books.) Now, about Will Durham. What a powerful and totally swoon worthy hero this dude is. His character is a sight to behold. A true and valiant, most chivalrous knight. And soon Marian is wondering if she really wants to go back to the present day. I was completely captivated by this book. I have always enjoyed Hedlund's books and she has proven she is incredibly good at switching genres effortlessly. Although I must admit, I am completely partial to her medieval settings. She is tops there! I cannot WAIT for the second in this series! I can highly recommend this one. My thanks to Revell Publishing for a copy of this book via Net Galley. An odd discovery, she finds notes and vials of holy water and residue from the Tree of Life, which is also a vessel to travel back in time. Marian decides to sample the vials and travel to the Middle Ages to find more to save her sister and also where she thinks her father is actually living outside of his present body and time. It soon becomes a romantic love story when Marian falls for a knight and indecisive about her return to present time. It was very uplifting and enlightening with the biblical references and verses throughout. Thanks NetGalley for the Arc in exchange for my review.

The whole tree of life thing seemed a little off to me in the beginning, but the more I got into the book, the more I realized how unique of a plot line for a time travel book it was! That was definitely one thing I loved was how unique that plot line was!! Jody Hedlund hardly ever writes characters that I don’t like, but Mariana and Will are probably my favorite! I LOVED everything about them! Mariana was so head strong and stubborn but I loved how she was willing to listen to Will (at times...if you know, you know) and follow him. She was so lovable and I loved how she loved everyone so wholeheartedly. I definitely related to her on quite a few things, not a lot but on a few things. Will....seriously a total heart throb of a fictional guy, lol! I loved him so much! I loved how protective and ferociously he loved and protected his family! He also was so gentle and kind. He and Mariana literally were the cutest together!! 🥰 I literally could gush about this book forever, but it’s late so I won’t. All I know is that you NEED to read this especially if you are a Lisa Bergren’s River of Time fan! Ugh, this book was just so good!! 😍 I’m just sad it’s over! 🥺 There was quite a bit of kissing, wanting, and noticing in this book for more romance sensitive readers. I would rate it probably around a PG-13 just because of all the romance and some violence in this book. *I received this book from Revell through Interviews and Reviews in exchange for my honest review. Current Day & 1381 England Time travel novel by Jody Hedlund! I've long enjoyed her historical and historical romance novels. Time travel is a departure from her usual work. It took me a little while to get engaged in Come Back to Me, but once I was, I quickly slipped in to the Middle Ages and the tale of Marian and Will. Phew! You’re going to need your fainting couches and fans handy for this one, ladies. However, I have to stay off by saying just how blown away I am at Jody Hedlund’s cleverness. I’ve never seen Outlander but I’d imagine this is sort of a clean version of that. One of my favorite read of the year!

It seems like Jody Hedlund has been experimenting with different genres of late. I recently read a western, and now she has ventured into time travel. I'll be honest, neither of these genres are my favorite and I only read them because she is an author I trust. Somehow, she never disappoints. I was blown away by her creativity in this book. I confess I struggled to really get into the contemporary side of the story line at first, but once the past comes in, oh my, I couldn't put the book down. Happy Publication Day! This was so good. Full of adventure. Jody Hedlund is one of my favorite romance authors and this one was wonderful. She always write an honest, heartfelt , realistic narrative. The heroine was a headstrong, confident female who has to rethink everything to survive. Fiercely independent, she tries to do it all alone, just to find out that she’s going to have to trust someone to get through this. The Hero was honorable, protective and passionate. There was never any doubt if I would enjoy Come Back to Me by Jody Hedlund, I don't think there is anything that I have read by her that I haven't liked. Some might've wondered about a plot with time travel, but I actually really like the idea of time travel since it could be plausible, it all depends on your perspective, and time travel has always appealed to my sense of adventure - I wasn't disappointed at all. I’m just going to say it: this may be HER BEST BOOK YET!!💓 Here me out. I’ve been a longggg time Jody fan & she’s had a solid spot on my favorite authors list for probably about 10 years or longer. I’m a big fan of romance so the fact that the parts of the story that were not as heavy on the romance kept me completely interested is saying a ton. The plot is so intriguing it really had me hooked. I devoured this book & it killed me to have to go to bed without getting to read more 😩. Not many books are like that for me anymore. A fun twist of a time-slip. The heroine goes back in time to save her dad and ends up having to choose where to stay, the past or the present. This book started out on the slow side for me, but with the danger and targets on Marian and Harrison, it kept me intrigued until Marian traveled to 1381 and this story totally captivated me. Both Marian and Will came across as people who have build walls around themselves and it was fascinating to see how they challenges each other and broke those walls down. At the start I had a different ending in mind but then somewhere along the road, my preferred ending changed and I was actually heartbroken when certain events happened. Though I did see ‘the inside man’ way in advance, his true character was quite dark and full of menace once revealed and I’m expecting him to play a bigger bad guy part in the next book. Marian’s concerns about the impact of the Holy Water was quite an ethical dilemma and I can see certain events happening and the validness of her concerns. So, though I’m happy about Marian and Will’s ending, I do hope for a happy ending for the sisters as well and maybe even n surprise encounter for Marian with some important to her in 1382... I haven't read a time travel I liked this much in a Long time! This is a clean romance but it gives you great sexual tension! I love when a author can balance that line. Wowsers! I enjoy a good time travel book and this one was very satisfying! Very cleverly written and convincing idea. The beginning took me a little bit to fully connect with the story. Buckle up for this fun ride because it is awesome! The contemporary aspects were well written and the suspense in them of trying to figure out what is happening as well as who is behind some of the problems. Then the history that is mixed in and spoken of in the contemporary moments and then jumping back to the past with some of those historical tidbits. So well woven together. I know I said it was a little slow at first for me, but after all the initial important info was divulged and the time jump happened, the flow of the story was great! Now I'll be patiently waiting for the second book in this series. Oh. My. Heavens!!! I can only imagine what might happen in that one. Will we get to see more of Marian and William??? Please, please, please Ms. Hedlund say that we will!!! Content: Clean. Time travel aspects, some moments of peril due to jumping back into the Middle Ages. Death, and some attacks occuring in the current time, but nothing overly graphic. There is talk between a married couple about being intimate but there is nothing more than kisses and them laying in bed snuggling. Everything else fades to black. Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ 3.5/5 This is one of those books that you want to completely and utterly love, yet I just wish I could change a thing or two to make it ✨perfect✨. But first of all, let me share why this book gave me a book hangover 😂❤️ I have never read a Christian time travel book. More so, I’ve never read a time travel book at all! My only exposure to time travel had been through the tv show Outlander (of course, Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ 3.5/5 This is one of those books that you want to completely and utterly love, yet I just wish I could change a thing or two to make it ✨perfect✨. So when Revell offered me a review copy I was a little hesitant, to say the least. My only exposure to time travel had been through the tv show Outlander (of course, using Vidangel filters😉😌) and I just couldn’t imagine a book trying to narrate the intricacies of traveling through time. But then, it was none other than Jody Hedlund who had written this book… and even though I had only read one of her books before, I really REALLY liked it. So I decided to give it a go. I will speak plainly from the start, this is NOT a YA book but an Adult one. I didn’t know that when I first started reading so I didn’t expect quite some things which I will explain as I go. First of all, the plot was superb. The way Jody mashed up the time lines was amazing. Tbh, I was a Little worried about the Holy water part and a little afraid it was going to take a dark or mystical turn. But it wasn’t like that at all!. I learned so much of the real history behind it, its legends and tales, I honestly became quite enthralled with the idea of it. The main character, Marian, is a research scientist for a pharmaceutical company. She has poured her life and work into helping research a cure for her sister’s rare illness. Then we have her dad. Another research scientist, a genius, doing his work in London. Marian and her dad have a strained relationship but it only gets weirder when she receives an unprecedented phone call telling her that her dad, her crazy genius, wealthy and eccentric dad has fallen into a coma without explanation. That’s when Marian starts questioning everything. Who and why did this, and why are people after her dad’s research concerning time travel? I loved the ‘’present’’ perspective! It wasn’t a cliché plot at all! We have so many unique characters and I enjoyed tremendously the fact that one of the characters represented a disabled person and he was, without doubt, one of the ones that made the book so much more interesting and fun! I’m a Harrisson fan forever lol. Then we have the ”past” time line. I won’t mention much here because I want you to get all the feels and surprises when you start reading this book. But I will say, Jody Hedlund, did amazing research concerning that time period and I felt like a Lady of medieval times all the way through the book 😍. I loved reading about the contrast between the past and present. Jody did an amazing job bringing that time period to life and showing us the good, the bad and the ugly. It was rich in history and adventure. I’ve probably learned more from this book alone about medieval times than from my elective medieval times college class 😂. And the characters in the past were just AMAZING AND INCREDIBLE! That’s all I’ll say. Having said all that, I wish to mention some things I didn’t quite like. The romance was precious. It was honest and raw. I loved the love interest and how he did everything to make Marian happy and feel secure. But, there were some descriptive romance scenes that kinda knocked a star from my rating. Even though we can consider this book clean (as in there aren’t any sex scenes), intimacy is a big player in this book due to the plot and different constums of the day. We can read from the male perspective how women were seen at that time as mere objects and how desirable they were. So changing or altering that perspective wouldn’t be historically correct due to the fact that at that time, women had almost no right or say in anything. I just want to clarify that the character growth of that male individual throughout the book was amazing. Marian, coming from a time where women have a place in society and have rights, and she, in a way, teaches this person what true love is and how to care, respect and be friends with the Woman you love. It was truly endearing. But the romance scenes are not meant for younger audiences given the fact that they are quite descriptive. I’ll also add that due to the time period, there are some gory descriptions about violence and beheading and blood and such. Nothing crazy descriptive but nonetheless they are there. Again, this IS an adult book, so pls have that in mind. Think Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers content level. Wow, I didn’t think this review was going to be this lengthy 😂. If you made it here, you are amaingggg! I hope this review helps you decide if this is a good book for you! Content: ⭐️⭐️ ⭐️ 3/5 Characters: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️5/5 Plot:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5

Having read every book Jody Hedlund has written I will admit to you time travel books back to the middle ages is not the first type of book on my list. I was mesmerized by the words as I was reading in this book. Many of the historical details in this book are actual though it is a historical fiction book we can learn a lot of fascinating details. Spanning modern times to the middle ages we find our self in danger of not being able to return to modern times unless something of great importance is found in time. A modern woman finds love when she travels back into the middle ages. Will this be able to be sustained before death comes calling? Fascinating book I found myself drawn to. I look forward to continuing this series with the next book. Pub Date 01 Jun 2021 I was given a complimentary copy of this book. Thank you. All opinions expressed are my own.

I finished this novel in less than 24 hours. I stayed up too late reading (which I rarely do now that I’m a mom!) because I had to know how it ends. And although I adore the ending, I cannot WAIT for book two! Knocked off a star because I didn’t love how flippantly the heroine treated her time-traveling beau at first. But the story! Gah! (Highly recommend for those who love a bit more Song of Solomon than Ruth).

It's been a long time since I read historical fiction, including time travel & romance, that's part fantasy & part actual. I usually don't read historical fiction novels, but I noticed the blurb of this one to be interesting, which made me choose it immediately. The conceptualization of the account is unique & powerful. The characters & pictures lay such a roller coaster journey that I couldn't help but be stuck to the novel till the end! Lying in my bedroom, enclosed by all the contemporary facilities, I questioned how it would feel to be in the 1300s. There's part two of the novel coming up & I can't wait to read that one. I would recommend the book to all historical fiction, time-travel, romance stories fans. You people are in for a feast!

Time travel books are tricky, am I right? Most of the time, you just can't think too hard or it just doesn't seem plausible but it's still fun. This author definitely nailed the plausibility with a very in depth, detailed description of the why and how of it all. Laying the foundation took pretty much half of the book. We don't actually see the time travel until half way through and honestly? I was growing impatient. Sometimes it just felt too wordy and lengthy but I know, laying the foundation is important especially in stories like this and I actually thought the idea of the time travel was interesting. I just really wanted more time with Will and Marian. They are awesome together and I just didn't get enough of them. I adored the second half of the book. I didn't want to put it down. Everyone should have a Will in their lives. 😍 I can see that the author set things up for future books and I'm excited to read them! And hopefully Will and Marian will be in those too because that would make me happy. Oh! And I love this cover. The first half of the book gets 3.5 stars from me. The second half, 5. Content: peril, mild violence, kissing (some thoughts about a husband wanting his wife physically, but nothing descriptive) - I received a complimentary copy of this book. Time Travel may sound a little crazy but it definitely intrigues me. I've read several time travel books and I thought Come Back to Me by Jody Hedlund was definitely among the best When Marian Creighton is called about her father being in a coma, she goes home to his bedside. He also leaves her clues in a safety deposit box. Clues that could help him--and possibly her sister who has a serious illness. While Marian struggles to believe what she finds in the box and the research her father has been doing, she tests the theories herself. Soon after, she finds herself back in the Middle Ages during a peasant uprising in 1381. She also meets William Durham. a knight who offers her protection. . .and maybe even more. I enjoyed this novel so much. The storyline and the characters were all quite compelling to me. Come Back to Me was written in such a way that the time travel did seem quite plausible. I liked how the author shared Marian's struggles in not fitting in with the time period at first and how she missed modern conveniences. That all seemed quite realistic within the time travel realm. I also enjoyed both William and Marian so much and was definitely invested and pulling for each of them. Jody Hedlund also has a way with writing swoony romance and I enjoyed watching the relationship develop through the book. My only disappointment is that I have to wait for the second book, Never Leave Me, in the Waters of Time series. The next book continues the story of Marian's sister, Ellen Creighton, and longtime friend, Harrison Burlington. I received a copy of this book from the publisher. This. Book. Was. Excellent! I had NO clue what to expect from the story other than it was time travel. The cover called my name when the opportunity to join the launch team came up, and I had to respond! I think the cover alone will be a favorite of 2021, but will rank up there as one of my top favorites period. Jody Hedlund is a prolific writer and I think she could write about a sack of potatoes and it would come out amazing. This time she sends us back to 1381 and you need to join us on this adventure. We meet Marian who is just your everyday, ordinary research scientist whose mom has passed away, her sister is very sick, and her father is in a coma. No big deal other than the fact that there are so many things wrong with the scenario Marian can't help but try to figure out what's going on. I really liked her character. Marian is caring yet strong willed; thoughtful yet a force of nature; loving yet determined. This all helps her start to put the pieces together of what her father was working on in England. Unfortunately, things go from bad to worse and those pieces start to come together and people start getting hurt. I loved how the author seamlessly wove the future into the past and brought Marian there to get answers. Leading up to it made my heart start to race. Oh my goodness, I knew I was going to love this story. And then there's William Durham. You could easily feel the same appreciation Marian had for him as she gazed upon him and then as she got to know him. I mean, imagine a knight in fine fighting form in 1381. Their quick acquaintance leads to a situation neither expected! Now let me tell you something. If you want romance, to feel it in a palpable way, to feel like you need to find a fan to cool yourself down, but in a way that doesn't cross lines... do. not. miss. this. book. Oh heavens to Betsy, the author outdid herself with Will and Marian's story. Is it cheesy to feel like their love was timeless? And it wasn't really instantaneous. Those tropes annoy the life out of me. No, this was different. There was this connection that you just knew. It wasn't contrived. It wasn't forced. It WAS a force! Now, I felt for Marian as she was a 21st Century gal who likes her modern conveniences! In 1381, there were nowhere to be found. But, she had to find ways to communicate with the present because she kept having moments where she would come back to the "now" and then slip back to the past. What her father had learned, and she had now learned could be world altering. So many choices to make, but what would be the right one? I have NO clue what book 2 will be like, but I hope we get to be with Will and Marian again! *I received this book for review. This is my personal opinion.

What a captivating and unusual read! This storyline definitely captured me from the first page and I had trouble putting it down until I finished it. What a tale of romance, mystery and adventure within a time travel tale. Time travel books are not my go-tos at all, so this one was a bit of a departure for me reading wise but I enjoyed all the facets of this immersive read and am eager for book two in the series to see what happens next!! “Do not hold yourself accountable for something only God can control.” What an intriguing story. I have loved time travel for a very long time. I guess it is the possibility of doing the impossible. And it is the perfect escape. Ms Hedlund wrapped me in a fantasy in 1381. William Durham is the perfectly flawed and swoony hero who comes to her rescue. A widower, he is forced to wed Marian but resolves to be the best husband under trying circumstances with God’s help. Ms. Hedlund has woven a tale that seems plausible and adventurous. The research was extremely well done and had me looking up ampullae and Canterbury Cathedral, wishing I could visit. The Cathedral is the oldest Church in England still in use. In this story, Canterbury is a magical place with a legend of healing holy water and a beautiful stained glass story that is preserved today. Well written, romantic and interesting I am glad there is more to the story. I look forward to reading about Marian’s sister, Ellen, and friend, Harrison, and of course the ability to travel back to 1811 once again. * I received a complimentary copy of this book from RevellReads and Library Thing, on behalf of the author. Time travel back to medieval England? A star-crossed romance? Fantasy mixing with the real world in a well-thought-out way? What could go wrong? Well…a lot apparently, based on the fact that I merely skimmed the last half of the book. Come Back to Me had the makings of a brilliant, unique Christian fiction novel, but all that potential was wasted when the book turned into what was basically Christian erotica (if such a thing can exist). Enough said, I think. I received a free copy of this book fr Time travel back to medieval England? A star-crossed romance? Fantasy mixing with the real world in a well-thought-out way? Come Back to Me by Jody Hedlund is an adventure of a novel that’s one part action, one part fantasy, two parts romance, and all kinds of awesome! Subtle themes of sacrifice and the lasting impact of love weave through these characters’ interactions as they face unexpected challenges — like the hazards of life in Medieval England. The concept of historical holy water with Biblical ties is smart and brings a good deal of real-life history to the story, as Hedlund outlines in her author’s note. The concept of historical holy water with Biblical ties is smart and brings a good deal of real-life history to the story, as Hedlund outlines in her author’s note. I liked that real-life aspect, as well as the historical turmoil of the Peasants’ Revolt being important parts of the story. It provides a thought-provoking contrast with Marian’s perspective of life in the 21st century. I didn’t buy into the instalove between Marian and Will at first. But, I quickly grew to appreciate their relationship as they acknowledge the progression from undeniable attraction, to a deeper heart-connection and friendship, to love as a commitment and active choice. Jody Hedlund always writes *all the sparks* and romantic tension so well, and Marian and Will’s passion is no exception. The thread of their relationship unfolds and models sacrificial love and loyalty as the most impactful story aspect. Fans of medieval times or adventurous and daring knightly heroes like Robin Hood will enjoy Come Back to Me! While it ties up the romance and lives of Marian and William satisfactorily, I can’t wait to see what happens in the next installment, Never Leave Me, as it focuses on Marian’s sister, Ellen — with a love interest I am ALREADY rooting for! Thank you to publisher Revell and their Revell Reads program for the review copy. This is my honest review.

But what I absolutely adored about this book was the connection that Marian and Will developed. They were both portrayed so realistically in the way they viewed their roles based on the separate time periods that they each came from, yet their hearts seemed to know each other. I simply loved their chemistry! The epilogue to the story was wonderful and I am already wanting to read the next installment! I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own. Jody Hedlund has written a time travel book taking the reader to the year 1381 in search of the ultimate cure. A modern day woman, who is a scientist is searching for a cure for her sister. She arrives in 1381 and falls in love. Should she stay in the past or go back to the future? This was a good read and I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline. The romance between Marian and Will was awesome. I'm excited this is a series and there will be another book to continue the story with Ellen and Harrison.
