Road Like A Lion can be used in family devotionals or by a kid for his own quite-time or personal devotions. The book encourages kids in their walk with God. Encourages them how to be a light in the world. How to overcome the fear of witnessing to others and of showing kindness to others. Well written in a style that is good for listening when read aloud or for the older child to read to themselves. Very understandable. Very relatable. And a good "did you know" side bar for each day's devotional. With 90 of these timely devotionals, you'll get 3 months of quality spiritual education. While I often make a point to intersperse nonfiction in with my fiction readings (since I gravitate much more strongly towards fiction), in this case, I found myself skipping the fiction to read just one (or three) more of the devotional sections. Although the devotional is clearly geared towards kids (it’s not written as a “family” devotion), with emphasis on childhood experiences, the messages are just as applicable to adults. The devotionals are at once fresh and relevant and timeless, bringing biblical truths to light by using examples that make sense, today. This certainly contextualizes the Scriptures for readers of all ages. I didn’t read many devotionals as a child, but this is one that I would have enjoyed. My biggest concern is readers’ ability to limit themselves to just one devotion a day. In all seriousness, this is absolutely a book I’d recommend, even for adults who are willing to read with a childlike perspective. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion

Sometimes growing up is both hard and scary. Roar Like a Lion by Levi Lusko with Tama Fortner is a book of 90 devotional to help kids feel more courageous in the faith as they live in this world today. He also tells us that he wrote this book in honor of his daughter, Lenya, who passed away. At the end of the introduction, he tells readers that there are twenty anchors hidden throughout the book and invites kids to find them all. He writes one devotion called, The Anchor, in which he explains why anchors are an important symbol to him in his Christian faith. Each of the 90 devotionals starts with a Bible verse, includes a Christian reading to relate to verse to what kids may be facing. Some readings include a Did you know? section with some real life history to learn, while others include a small section called, Get Ready to Roar, where kids can think about how they can apply the reading in real life today. Each devotional has bright and beautiful illustrations from Catherine Pearson. Roar Like a Lion would appeal to both both and girls. The bright illustrations are inviting and also do reflect the reading they are illustrating. The writing style is great for the age group and I would think that kids would learn and reflect through each reading. Searching for the twenty anchors throughout the book is a fun added bonus and their is a page with the answers if a reader really can't find one. We absolutely have been loving this devotional in our house. We have been using this devotional as part of our morning time routine during our homeschool day. It is great for all age groups. I am using it right now for kiddos ages 12, 9, 7, and 6. We have been using the daily Bible Verse as our copy work. My kids favorite part is the "Did You Know?" section in each devotional. Its a fun fact or a historical tidbit which is great for us as homeschoolers to tie in a lot of subjects into one book. We absolutely have been loving this devotional in our house. An inspirational guide for children and adults alike! I was looking forward to reading this devotional because I like to read and review non-fiction middle-grade books as much as I enjoy reading fiction written for that age group. Each of the devotionals is titled with a brief, catchy phrase such as, IDK is OK, Courage in the Dark, What Are You Waiting For?, and Not-So-Cool Schooldays. Each devotional includes a Bible verse; an applicable narrative from the author; a sidebar entitled, Did You Know?; and a brief prayer which directly applies to the theme of the devotional. The tone of the book is very warm and welcoming. Readers are encouraged to seek out God and are given specific actions to take to share their faith with others, live the life God wants them to live, and to treat themselves and others with kindness. The illustrations are exceptional, and I feel that the artist has done a fantastic job of conveying the author's words in visual form. One fun aspect of the book is that the illustrator hid twenty 'anchors' throughout the book. At the beginning of the book readers are encouraged to search for anchors. The key to where the anchors are hidden is given at the end of the book. Highly-recommended to families, church groups, church libraries, and others who will enjoy taking an inspirational journey through some of life's challenges through the use of solid Biblical references, current examples, and prayer. If my kids were still young, I would highly consider reading "Roar Like A Lion" with them. It is geared for ages 6-10, so older kids/experienced readers could read it on their own, while less experienced readers can enjoy some one-on-one time with a grown-up, or the entire family can benefit with some read-aloud family devotion time. The lessons are good for all ages to learn from, but specifically cover topics for kids such as: (1) Facing fears about school and friendships, (2) Dealing with peer pressure and bullying, (3) Handling new challenges, disappointments, and grief, (4) Having courage to try something new, and (5) Understanding how we each fit into God's great story. As I read through some of the devotionals I noticed the colorful illustrations, and I like the way each two-page devotional is laid out. Each devotional includes a relevant Bible verse, an easy-to-understand devotional, and then a short focused prayer. As an added bonus, each devotional also includes a short section of either a "Did You Know" fact, or a "Get Ready to Roar" call to action; and, for an extra fun activity, kids can go through the book looking for anchors that are hidden in some of the illustrations. How many can you find? I challenge you to find out. Disclosure: I did receive this book in exchange for this review .Many thanks to Thomas Nelson for providing it to me. My sons are 10 and 12 years old, and they very much enjoyed snuggling with me on the couch to read this together. Roar Like A Lion has been such a blessing to me and my family. Levi Lusko is the author of a devotional my boys and I read together also, called Take Back Your Life. The author is very honest and on point with what he talks about, but also manages to do this in a very caring and lighthearted way. His books can be trusted to be Biblically truthful, and my sons and I were so excited to be able to read Roar Like A Lion. Anchors are hidden throughout the book. The author has a fun challenge where you can see how many anchors you can find as you read through the devotional with your family. You can also read about the significance of the anchor and what it means to the author and his family. I thought this was really cool. Levi Lusko and Tama Fortner have created a devotional book that kids will want to read. Each of the 90 entries in Roar Like a Lion is short, contains a Scripture passage, a short devotional, a short bit of history, and a prayer. I have been reading this devotional aloud to my children every morning lately. It is attractive and interesting. There are four main parts to each day's reading. First, there is a Scripture verse, and then a short reading about what God does for us. At the end of the page is a short prayer. Each day also includes a side bar with either interesting facts about something in nature or history, or “Get Ready to Roar,” which gives tips for helping people. This book would probably be just what some children need, as encouragement to turn to God in their struggles; a lot of it does not apply to my children. The author frequently talks about struggles that children face at school, or with parents who are arguing or separated. Another thing I noticed is that the main focus is on what Jesus can do for us, rather than on WHO God is. We need to be looking at who God is more than at what He does for us. I received a review copy of this book from NetGalley, and these are my honest thoughts about it.

"Roar Like a Lion" is a brand-new children's devotional book that is available now! This book has 90 readings that are geared to help build up your faith so that hard things can be done. I love the variety of topics and straight forward approach and easy to understand language that is used. For example, one of the readings is about "turning off the dark." The world is so dark, people are mean, yet we can help turn off the dark and turn on the light by sharing God's love with the world. This devotional is a great resource to help your children grow their faith – and their roar. We really enjoyed the "did you know" and "get ready to roar" portions of each devotional (education trivia or practical application in every day life). We also enjoyed the fun bonus game in the book - where you try to find the hidden anchors throughout the colorful illustrations. My daughters really loved hunting for the anchors as they read through the devotions. Disclosure: Many thanks to Thomas Nelson for providing this product/product information for review. What is something you would tell your younger self if you could? One of the (many) words of advice I would have for myself is to develop healthy, life-long habits early. Each of the 90 devotionals is written in a way that draws the reader in like the author is sitting right there with them. I appreciated the mix of scripture verses provided in the book along with the encouragement to look other verses up, driving the reader to God’s word. Lusko challenges young readers to be brave and take a stand when they see wrong done in their worlds. He acknowledges challenges and never preaches down to the reader but instead, kneels down to their level, recognizes the issue, and encourages courage. But that’s not all. There is also a fun and educational sidebar with facts about animals and history. I even learned a few things reading through this devotional. Whether you’re looking for something to read as a family or wanting to find something for your young reader to engage and encourage, look no further. Hello, friends! Goodness, but it has been quite some time since I have had a book to review ~ with the world so crazy and all for the past couple of years. I don't know about you, but oftentimes these days I find myself simply shaking my head, and wondering what on earth can be done to help tame some of the crazy. Levi Lusho understands that if the adults are feeling this sense of overwhelm, then the young ones in our lives probably are as well. He has written a new devotional, Roar Like a Lion, Hello, friends! He has written a new devotional, Roar Like a Lion, filled with many little nuggets to help your kids navigate some of the unsteady, scary, and uncomfortable situations they are sure to encounter as they grow up, as well as learn to be bold in their faith. Although my kids are no longer the target age of this new devotional, having experienced the concerns of the younger ages, I do feel qualified to offer my opinion on this book. 😄 First, the less essential, but important details of the cover and graphics. This hardback book has a very eye-catching, colorful illustration of a roaring lion, and has a very smooth touch to the hand. It is an easy size to hold~ not too big and not too small. Each page has child friendly illustrations and colorful borders that give me a bit of a vintage Ruth Chrisman Gannett (Illustrator of My Father's Dragon, Miss Hickory, and other classics) vibe. Sorry for going a little geeky on the art, but that is a big part of a children's book's attraction for me. ;) For the more Nitty-Gritty, each devotional includes pleasing illustrations, fascinating facts, Bible verses and prayers, along with some simple action steps. This 90-day devotional will help your kids approach both fun moments and tough times with their hearts set on God's faithfulness. Roar Like A Lion covers topics like: 🦁Facing fears about school and friendships 🦁Dealing with peer pressure and bullying 🦁Handling new challenges, disappointments, and grief 🦁Having courage to try something new 🦁Understanding how we each fit into God's great story The devotionals are short and sweet (double-page spread), but pack a quick little punch of Biblical truth or wisdom that a child can understand and hold on to. I feel like even if you have older kids listening in, they might pick up on some of the truths, which are, after all, universal to all ages. ;) Whether using this as a start to your child's day, a before bed devotional, or a "tea-time" read (I think it would work well in an after school program for a snack-time devotional also~ just the right length!), these devotions offer simple encouragement to grow faith, and learn to share the Good News! #RoarLikeALionMIN #roarlikealion #tommynelsonbooks Roar Like A Lion will help the child in your life follow Christ more closely this Fall (or put it away and pull it out for a "New Year" new devotional option, Birthday present, Christmas present...). In Roar like a Lion, Levi Lusko has written a brand-new children’s 90 days devotional book. He begins the book by revealing how Jesus is called the Lion of the tribe of Judah. He described how a lion club starts out blind and then grows up and learns how to survive in wilderness. Each day had a scripture verse, a short story, and a “did you know” or a “get ready to roar”. He begins the book by revealing how Jesus is called the Lion of the tribe of Judah. He described how a lion club starts out blind and then grows up and learns how to survive in wilderness. Each day had a scripture verse, a short story, and a “did you know” or a “get ready to roar”. He also shared how he wrote this book in the honor of his daughter, Lenya who passed away after suffering from a severe asthma attack while they were wrapping Christmas gifts. The first devotional was on 2 Timothy 1:7 and this one discussed how God hasn’t given us a spirit of fear. He gave us the spirit of power, love, and self-control. This devotional covered how a lion isn’t afraid. They roar for three reasons: “let other lions know where they are, show how powerful they are, and to scare away an enemy”. He goes on to explained how we also need to roar to, “let other believers know where you are and they aren’t alone, show how powerful God is, to scare off your enemy, the devil”. He illustrated how a lion is brave and how we can also receive the strength and power from God. In the book, he also opened up about his own life stories in order to help children to understand that they aren’t alone and he faced different things growing up as well. He explained how he was picked on a lot in school and bullied. He admitted that he had buckteeth, wore glasses, had asthma, and he tried playing sports but had trouble breathing so he wasn’t every good. He shared that he was called names and he struggled with fitting in. He didn’t make good friends until he discovered a group of Christians and they tried to get to know him and they became his true friends. He went on to explain bullying and how we can feel like the world is against us and this is in face a life from the devil. He shared how we are all worthy of love. I would recommend this awesome children’s book to all children but especially to the ones aged 4 to 12. I immensely loved in the book how he looked at the different aspects of faith and how we can become brave and have the courage to reach out to others and make a difference. I also liked how some of the days included ways we can be kind to someone else. I also enjoyed how they included colorful illustrations to keep the readers engaged. I also liked how they included special ship anchors hidden throughout the illustrations that readers get to try and find. This book would make a great devotional for children and it will assist them in growing in their faith. Many thanks to Thomas Nelson for providing this product/product information for review. Raising kids has always been a hard job, but with technology the way it is now I think most parents would say it's become harder. That's where Roar Like a Lion comes in to help us reach our children's hearts and guide them the way we want them to go. Levi Lusko with the help of Tama Fortner has given us this amazing book to help us reach the hearts of those children that are in our lives. This book has 90 devotions to help us reach our children's hearts. Some of the ones that I thought were helpful for my son were the following: Speak Up! Stand Out! Goofs, Mistakes and Mess-Ups! The Courage to Forgive Alone in a Crowd You've Got a Purpose Stronger Than Any Storm The first thing that jumped out to me when I opened the package was the beautiful illustrations. The entire book is so very colorful and eye catching! Each devotional starts with a verse. In #38, You've Got a Purpose, the verses is Colossians 3:17. We read how God has a purpose that is specific for each and every one of us. God made us to be amazing and special. One thing we have to realize is that we aren't all made to do things that other people look at as extraordinary. We weren't all made to be missionaries in a foreign land. Sometimes our purpose is to just smile at someone that is having a rough day. Maybe they needed that smile more than anyone could know. One way to expand on what you've read is the Get Ready to Roar section. This helps you to get your child to think about what they can do with what they just learned. These devotionals are short, just 2 pages, but packed with just enough information to get your child thinking. That can then lead to open discussions that could have amazing outcomes. The suggested reading age is 6-10. This book is eye catching from the moment you see it because it's got a lion roaring on the cover. I mean what child isn't fascinated by a lion? My son is 14, but I felt like many of the topics were things he is dealing with at his current age. I think this would be a great devotional for a family that has multiple ages and therefore you could meet each child where she or he needs to be met for their age and emotions. For most of us the school year has just started and this would be a great book to read to the kids in school and help them learn how to deal with some of those tough issues. Head over and grab Roar Like a Lion for your family and start that new tradition of doing devotions each night with your children. The world that we live in can be a scary place sometimes, but for kids it can be even scarier. It includes 90 devotions to encourage your child to be more courageous in their faith and life, in both the highs and lows that life will have along their path. First I want to talk about the devotions in this amazing new book. Yes, I think it's amazing. What I loved about the devotions was that they speak to kids on a level they can relate to. Since the age group this devotional is targeted to is 6-10, the devotions are not over complicated or too long to read. They start off with a bible verse. The devotions are short and based on issues that children in this age range would be facing in their lives. They are very relatable and understandable and cover topics such as dealing with grief, their place in God's amazing story, how to handle peep pressure, and so many more topics that kids face daily. One of the other things I love is that the devotions have a side bar that you can use for some discussion time with your little one. This will help you expand on what they just read and you can then offer more of God's words of wisdom to help clarify or have longer discussion with your children. The other small detail that I think is wonderful is the short prayer at the end of the devotion for your children to pray. Start them young praying for everything helps later in life and the small prayers are quick and meaningful. The other amazing feature that Lusko thought about when creating this book was the illustrations. The illustrations are by Catherine Pearson and they are absolutely beautiful and eye catching. As you can see from the cover and the image above the illustrations are bright, colorful and so fun! They are very age appropriate and perfect for this book. What's even more fun about the illustrations is that hidden thought the pictures are anchors for your child to find. They are not on every page, but looking for the anchor is a great way to get your child engaged in the devotion and the quality time with you. Overall, this is a perfect devotional for your primary school age child. I honestly can not find anything about this devotional that I didn't like. Even the cover is perfect. It's a hard cover and will take the bumps and thumps that your child could put it through. {Disclosure: Many thanks to Thomas Nelson for providing this product/product information for review. Each devotion takes about 3 to 5 minutes to read and is geared toward children ages 6-10. The devotion begins with a Bible verse and closes with a prayer. There is a fun “Did Your Know” or “Get Ready to Road!” activity on each devotion as well. My 8 year old is really enjoying these devotions and we have a great time ending our day with them. Levin Lusko, the author, does a great job at providing a fun to use, inspirational devotion that the whole family can enjoy together. We like that the Bible verse is printed with the devotion so the Bible verses can be incorporated into the devotion without having to get out a Bible to read the portion. And a guided prayer at the end is a great way to help your kids learn to pray as well. The book is hard covered and the pages are thick so the book is sturdy and durable. The devotion also has anchors hidden through the book to allow the reader to have fun looking in each devotion for the hidden anchor. The anchor, as explained in the back of the book, symbolizes how God’s word is an anchor to our faith. Like anchors keep the ship from going adrift, God gave us anchors to keep our faith from going adrift. My daughter had fun looking for the anchors. We all know life can happen sometimes so if you skip a day, there's no need to catch up but to start where you last finished off. It is presented well with bold vector-based pictures and the design layout isn't overly busy at all. The introduction is not to be skipped over. The author speaks of the inspiration of this devotional, what he hopes readers will gain, and the mention of a seek and find activity to participate in while going through the book. Each devotion starts with a Bible verse, a reading, a "Did You Know" history blurb, and a prayer. The devotions are relevant for the ages this book is recommended for and I felt applicable for this current generation. I feel the devotions were easy for my kids to understand and relate to. While flipping through the book myself, I noticed one that was about the pandemic and how it made us all feel stuck but not to stay there and continually steal our attention. It encouraged us to look for the good things in all of it and tied it together with Philippians 4:8. This devotional has given my youngest children a different view of what the Bible says about courage for Christ Followers compared to what the world often says and shows it to be. I recommend checking this out! Disclosure: Many thanks to Thomas Nelson for providing this product/product information for review. Over the past few years I have read several children’s books, Bibles, and devotionals. Roar Like A Lion is definitely a favorite. Many devotionals include a verse and a Bible story. Roar Like A Lion includes a daily verse with a real world scenario teaching children how to integrate Scripture and principle into their lives. The book teaches children how to act and react in our world using Scripture as a guide. Examples include how to deal with the fear that arises when parents argue, the temptation of cheating in school, difficult family and social situations, and faithfulness to a local church. Each day includes a side note that includes facts (historical, scientific, and biblical). This devotional will provide your child plenty of learning opportunities. As a Bible teacher and Christian school counselor I immediately recognized the value of the brief devotionals. It will be a practical and useful resource for me because so many of the devotions are relevant to the student’s family and social life and school experiences. I intend to use it when I counsel students through difficult situations. I will also take the opportunity to share some of the lessons with students as relative issues arise.
