WHAT A FINALE! Timber digs deep....and then it digs deeper. Inarguably Tate James’ most emotionally complex, evocative, and heart-wrenching story to date, this is truly an author elevating her craft. All centered around one of the most captivating and ground breaking heroines I’ve ever read. EVER. Hade is truly a revelation- and reading this story from her eyes has been nothing short of transformative. Hade is truly a revelation- and reading this story from her eyes has been nothing short of transformative. The character journey she takes in this finale is pure brilliance, a story told with the bold and gusty finesse of a truly innovative, creative mastermind. The narrative, though expansive, is tightly woven and completely engrossing- heartbreaking yet satisfying. I have NEVER felt a Tate James story as deeply as this one, and I’ve never cried such a wide gamut of tears- joy, hate, fear, heartbreak, healing, wholeness. And that is because of these characters- this harem. And the magic of Hades. Every single one of them is perfectly crafted and perfectly fused. Each evolves into the fullest version of themselves, but even more so, into the perfect foil to Hades herself, and to her own journey. As I’ve mentioned before, there is no harem like this one. The power, the architecture, the way the arcs intersect, the parallel journey of romance and friendship- it’s a unique and innovative construct intellectually, but EMOTIONALLY and psychologically it is truly literary art. Hades, Grumpdrop, Zeddy Bear, and GC are magical enough on their own, but together this is relational poetry. A romance so special, so powerful, pure and indomitable- a dynamic that shines all the brighter amidst all of the gritty trauma and violence that chaotically orbits these dynamic characters. But despite Hades starting as a character so abjectly against it for so long, love truly reigns supreme in Timber. It’s a finale full of pain, loss, heartbreak, and destruction, but also hope and healing. Amidst the flames a phoenix will rise, a love and connection that will NEVER fall. Brava, Tate. Brava.

3.5 stars Why are Tate James books so freaking addicting. This was an intense series and I'm sad it's over. I had a wild time with Hades, Zed, Lucas, and Cass. There was nonstop action, suspense, and steam throughout the entire series. This final book is LONG and even though I did enjoy it, for me it's the weakest book in the series. The conclusion with Chase was a little unsatisfying, especially since most of the lead-up to his ending happened off-page. He's a total sweetheart. I know we're getting the Guild next, but I totally wouldn't mind a series for Seph!! (And Rex's boys??) Allll the triggers for this one: rape, physical/psychological/sexual/forced drug abuse, torture, mutilation. Things get DARK in this finale.

I sobbed for a good amount of time over the beginning of this book. What sucks to me is, Hades never properly deals with what happens to her… doesn’t communicate with the guys about it… and everything that happened with Chase and Zed (separately) are just kind of swept under the rug. (view spoiler)[Zed reveals he’s been working with the FBI “for her” and it was basically a fake-hiring to the FBI as an informant… and she just forgives him. Just like that? A lot of the middle of this book felt boring to me. I’m someone who loves steaminess in books but the sex scenes started to feel so frequent and similar it became gratuitous and I was really just skimming them. (There’s only so many times I can read about a “hard c*ck” being shoved into her “aching c*nt”.) Lastly, the “big ending”… was incredibly unsatisfying to me. Part of what made Madison Kate’s series so addicting was they had so many false leads and the true stalker and mysteries weren’t unraveled until the end of the last book. In the Hades series, we knew who the villain was the whole time. He had plenty of time on page. And for some reason, they just kept… not… killing him. And then at the end we find out it’s because (view spoiler)[Hades and Cass have been working off-page to compile evidence to send him to prison? Really? The scene with Hannah being like “doesn’t that feel unsatisfying?” and Hades retorting “does it just feel unsatisfying because you didn’t see all the work we did in secret?” felt like a cop out to assuage readers questions. But like… YES. That’s exactly why it feels unsatisfying! We as readers were left in the dark to what was going on inside the narrator’s head. We were given an epilogue of “two years later” where we learn he’s been tortured and raped in prison the whole two years but that honestly just made me feel icky, not vindicated for Hades. (view spoiler)[The first three books contained heavy, adult topics and were also on the darker side of dark romance. So I kinda knew what to expect from Timber. But especially the beginning of this book and the aftermath of the MCs captivity was way above everything I consider "enjoyable" in a romance novel - as dark as it may be. Not necessarily because I can't read about rape, mental and physical abuse, waterboarding, drug abuse and so much more but rather the way her obvious trauma was handled. The torture she had to endure during her captivity reminded me more of a detailed Psychothriller than a Dark Romance novel. So understably the MC so obviously struggled the days after being freed from her psychopath of an Ex. And what was the reaction of one of her boyfriends? Pushing her into a serious conversation so that he can redeem himself after betraying her for years. As if thats the most important thing after she’s been torturted for 12 days. She clearly didn’t want to deal with him and the heartbreak and instead of respecting her boundaries, he repeteadly tried to talk to her until she ultimately gave in. Right after she was captured the other two boyfriends also talked about if she got raped or not by her Ex while she slept. One of them literally said that he knew she got raped – in such a horrible way. “[…]didn’t abduckt her and drug her mindless so they could play Monopoly and have pillow fights.“ Way to go Cass, way to go. What a cute, sensitive boyfriend he is. Not to say that it was really, really sad that while eavesdropping she felt guilty and ashamed for lying in the first place which just makes me sad. A women who got recently traumatized (also same applies to almost every human being), doesn’t have to justify her behavior to anyone. And a book shouldn’t give the impression that she in fact should feel guilty for something like this. But what was even worse was the fact that at least 2 of the boyfriends knew that she got raped (the third one, Lucas, believed her when she told him she wasn’t and would’nt let himself be convinced otherwise. Not even from the sensitive way Cass explained things. Just one other thing in endless list of naive things Lucas did). They knew and deliberatly decided not to give this a second thought. She didn’t want to talk about it/didn’t brought it up by herself but to not even ackknowledge it before initiating sexual intercourse again was the turning point for me to not like this book. I don’t care if this is Dark Romance or not. If they didn’t knew about her trauma I would give them a pass – but they knew. And the way they ignored it for their own satisfaction was more than a single red flag for me. Especially because these boyfriends were portrayed as caring, protective characters, but their restraint didn’t even last a whole week before they started with the heated eyes again. After this point I couldn’t read any of the smut scenes anymore. They just felt wrong to me. Also, after there was an opening for her boyfriends to talk about this sensitive topic because they saw a video of her abuse, it still wasn't addressed properly and after the initial shock everyone just brushed over the topic once again. The fact that the author decided to brush over the trauma in such an uncaring way was really disappointing. 200 pages into the book you wouldn’t even know that the abduction and torture did happen because almost everything was back to normal. Once again, don’t care if Dark Romance or not – you don’t write about torture and the resulting trauma like this for the sole purpose to speed up the story and then just brush over it like its nothing more than a little disturbance for the character. Thats nothing I want to read in Romance. (hide spoiler)]

However that does not mean that i didn’t enjoy it, i was happy to see Hades get her HEA. Let me start with saying that i absolutely adore Hades’ character. I love badass FMC and she’s one of my favorite. The banter between her men is great, her different connection to each one of them is also unique, and i can say that this is was the best thing in the last book. What I didn’t enjoy is how the trauma and death was always brushed over and cured with sex. The sex was really overwhelming in this book. I didn’t feel the connection in this one like i felt it in the first three books. And i didn’t feel the connection to the entire series the way i felt it towards MK which is my #1 favorite RH. But i highly recommend you read Hades- it’s such a powerful and emotional journey. And I’m really excited for the next series!

4.5 stars. Ok. So this ended on a pretty good note. I can’t say it was my favorite. Almost solely because it was single POV. I just can’t shake my preference for being inside ALL the MCs’ heads. I did finally find a groove after the second book where I could sort of ignore that burning need-to-know feeling. But I do 100% think this series would’ve been better if we’d gotten more than one chapter each inside their heads. Other than that I really enjoyed reading about these villains. Hades was a definite badass. Which is my favorite type of heroine. Then there was the three men. Lucas with his sweet heart and massive 🐓. Cass with his surprisingly loving ways and his rough hands. And Zed. With his undying loyalty and his unshakable soulmate level connection with Hades. They really balanced each other and I loved seeing their relationship build and grow throughout all the twists and turns the author took us on. Plus the sex was absolutely explosive and sexy as all hell. The group scenes had me thirstier than should be fucking legal. I’m glad I picked this series up. I’m also glad I skipped the MK series. I don’t think I’d have picked this one up afterwards if I had. Especially not if they were also single POV like I suspect. I’m happy to know I pushed through my frustration with that and got a satisfying HEA, but I still don’t think I’ll be moving on to the next connected series. It was good. It was entertaining and sexy. But I think I’ll just leave things in Shadow Grove where this book sets them. I’m happy with that. And I’m even happier leaving this single POV shit behind. Lol

What a rollercoaster this series has been. I feel like my brain is still buzzing trying to piece together Hades next scheme or the next attack because let’s face it, there is always SOMETHING going on for this group. The beginning was incredibly dark but I loved that way that Tate not only showed us the trauma Hades went through, but showed her recovery in a way that was both heartbreaking and perfect for the scenario. I loved every single part of her story and am still totally obsessed with Hades. She is easily the most bad bitch in dark contemporary romance. The best part of this book is the way that Tate James handled the group dynamic. The four of them work together so damn well. She even made their kinks play together well, and I felt as thought their personalities meshed incredibly well for a group that came together slowly. Most RH romance is between a girl and a group of guys who have been friends for years. Lucas, Zed and Cass went from being strangers or rivals, to part of a really incredible polyamorous group. This book is the standard to which I will hold all RH from now on. I’m loving that there was a possible Persephone series, and actually hope that she gets her own story now that I like her as a character. This message is specifically for Tate: I AM GOING THROUGH WITHDRAWALS ALREADY. I need your next book now. Kthanksbye

Its a little bittersweet writing this books review, cause its means the end of a series I love dearly. The beginning of this book is really dark, and completely horrible and just left me so uncomfortable. But that was the goal. So reading about her in the beginning of this book (I'm being vague on purpose, as to not ruin anything) it was really difficult. But highly effective. I think this was a great finale to the series. The bond between the men was one of my favorite things to read. We need to normalize men seeking comfort and support from other men. So reading the banter, teasing and playfulness between the boys, just really hit me in the feels. They all had a connection to Hades, but after coming to terms with their poly relationship in the previous books, it was such a joy to read about the bond between each man and Hades and each man with each other, and of course as a group dynamic. A handful of things that stood out to me while I was reading this book (and series as a whole) that I absolutely loved... Zed cooking all the time, both cause he enjoyed doing it and also to be useful. The whole group teasing Lucas about his, ahem... monster. How supportive the guys were about almost everything having to do with Hades. How Diana snuck into the gangs hearts. How, while there was some jealousy here and there, for the most part they all almost always ended up in bed together, sleeping wise. But when one of the guys needed extra solo attention from Hades for whatever reason, the other two understood. Also the revenge was really great. Hades definitely got hers in the end. So if you want to read a seriously action packed series, with a truly kick ass MFC and her men, this is the series for you. And while this is in the same universe as Tate's other series (Madison Kate) you don't need to read it first. But there are cameo's from MK and the guys from that series, so it doesn't hurt to read that series first!

There were some tense moments and I especially enjoyed how many times Hades referred to Archer and his boys as idiots, although the constant MK mentions felt tedious at times. At the start of the series, I didn’t know how to feel about Lucas being so young, but he ended up as my favourite and felt refreshing in the story. I think the main thing that left me cold on this series is that so much of the outcome is only alluded to - as a reader I wanted more of the details of how Hades took down Chase. Less of this “a magician never reveals her tricks” nonsense. Also, was it just me or did Hades rant to Hannah towards the end (chap 63) about her “anticlimactic” comment feel very pointed ?? Hmmm. I hear you, Tate James. Now, story aside, here are my real issues with this book: The way Hades went from reflecting on her own suicidal thoughts as a young girl with Seph to absolutely demonising Lucas’ mum after she takes her own life did not sit right with me. The idea that someone is a “coward” in these circumstances feels like such an archaic and outdated point of view. I hated it, and it didn’t add anything to the story or characters development - why was it necessary? Let’s not also forget that Sandra was a disabled person, and the way her condition and mental health struggles were portrayed was just awful. Does she deserve a mum of the year award? Probs not. But I don’t think it was necessary to turn her into a villain. Let’s face it, there isn’t really any representation in these books (disabled villain aside) but the fact that the only real mention of LGBT was about a gay prostitute being picked up by the corrupt male police deputy… Ugh. Again, it didn’t sit right with me. Finally, how can we forget that even the strongest and most badass FMC can’t have a happy ending unless she’s getting married and having kids. Even though Hades had adamantly stated she wanted neither of those things earlier in the book. Meh.

What an ending! This was a wild ride y’all as the book is about 750 pages so buckle up and enjoy the journey. Honestly, if you’ve enjoyed the series, you’re going to love Timber. We get everything we needed from this final book and I am so pleased with the ending. Im incredibly sad to say good bye to this group as they have become my favorite group Tate has ever written. That was such a perfect ending to such an amazing series. I’m sad that the series is over. I absolutely loved that Archer, Kody & Steele made multiple appearances through out the book!!! Also; can I just say… chapter 62👀🥵🥴😮‍💨 I’ll be rereading that one.🥲 I cannot fathom the right words for a proper review right now, so i’ll have to come back and make a proper one after my mind processes everything. Loved this series overall First and foremost, I absolutely loved this series! I definitely think Zed is by far my fave even though I loved Hades and her men. Of the four books, I found Timber to be the least exciting even though I still enjoyed it. I think a lot of this stems from the fact that the book was so much longer than the previous three so parts of the plot dragged.

3.5 stars I'm gonna miss the fuck out of these characters, but to be completely honest I am underwhelmed with how their story ended. This was a thick ass book, and I felt like a good chunk of that was unnecessary. BUT Hades got her happy ending, and that's really all that matters. Overall assessment: I don't hate it, but I sure don't love it 3.5 stars I'm gonna miss the fuck out of these characters, but to be completely honest I am underwhelmed with how their story ended. It's been a wild ride and with Timber, it comes to its conclusion. Hades is one sassy tough FMC that doesn't take crap from anyone and takes her pound of flesh if you try to get in her business. This whole series was full of excitement, angst, hot guys, sexy cars, and lots of girl power. I'm going to miss this crew! Warning, do not read this while hungry or you will find yourself craving Zeds cooking. It's been a wild ride and with Timber, it comes to its conclusion. What an amazing rollercoaster ride this series has been, I don’t want to get off. Until the bitter end I really thought I’d be rating this book differently. If you ask me the book starts pretty horribly, Hades has not only been captured by her worse enemy, she’s undergoing the worst kinds of torture and finds out she’s been betrayed. It’s truly brutal watching her go through the same torture she’s risen above for so long. Not only is her body being abused but so is her mind and her ex Chase knows just what buttons to push. But here I was doubting Hades, doubting Tate James and I stand Fucking corrected because this book has to have ended in the most brilliantly epic way that I have ever seen, read or experienced and holy shit if it wasn’t satisfying beyond belief. 🤯🤯🤯 (view spoiler)[Before the epilogue and far too many unnecessary escalating attacks on Chase’s part, Hades’ end game plan finally comes to fruition. And what happens? Chase is arrested? That’s it? 😖 Let’s just say reading this was like being in a hot air balloon thousands of feet in the air thats cut open mid flight, with a fiery crash of death to end it all. But. Holy. Shit. Yes Chase is arrested but there is so much more to the story. I swear this book had my emotions all over and for a change I am not complaining. I was totally on team Hannah when she even posed the question to Hades about how anticlimactic it’d all been. However Hades had her hands in every little detail of his demise and detainment, including the torture he’d go through day after day for two years until she finally came to end him. Then this bad bitch stands over his burning corpse till he’s ash and even roasts marshmallows she brought with her over his burning body. 😱😱😱😱 I mean I bow down to the author because never has an end been so deserving or delivered 😈👏🏼😈👏🏼😈👏🏼😈 (hide spoiler)] There’s so much still in question when the book begins it’s hard not to want answers and retribution. Luckily we get both in spades and some reveals/retaliations are mind blowing. Hades has always had to question those around her aside from those in her inner circle. Unfortunately Chase has managed to ruin even that as if Hades needed another thing on her plate. I do think a certain someones involvement with the FBI was a little boring in its explanation compared to how it felt like being sucker punched when revealed but I’m not complaining because everything worked out in the end. As for the relationship, things are pretty solid between the group but Hades imprisonment has left its marks. She has a lot of internal things to deal with along with plotting revenge. They make waves against but I still didn’t like Chase destroying all her clubs. (Her starting a new club named after the 8th circle of Hell was also a nice karmic dig) One step forward and another one back constantly but even with the book being 700 pages the craziness never let up. And I’m including sexy times in that because there are many but at least now the group has evolved into working as a true team if you catch my drift 😏😏 There really is almost no tension between the men about sharing and it’s actually super adorable and cheesy to see how close they’ve all grown together. Throughout the series it’s continued to shock me the Cass turned out to be the biggest softie and romantic of them all. It’s like once he was in with Hades that was it and he’s been all in as if attached to her by an invisible tether. I wasn’t surprised to hear of him finding the marriage loophole for their HEA and it just added to the already perfect end. The series as a whole, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every bit. It was crazy dramatic and out of this world but so epicly good. While I hated the start, things really turned around pretty quick and wrapped up every little storyline up so wonderfully. (view spoiler)[Maxine is alive and I’m so happy about that, what happened to her was so crazy but it seems like she bounced back with little to no issue the last time we see her lol. Then Hades adopting Diana, 😍 how could I not love that. The girl really is already in the life and has suffered the hands of evil so I completely get why Hades would take her in over bringing an innocent child into the mix. And then the dang girl wants her name changed to a Greek equivalent, like my heart literally can’t handle this lol. The other thing I loved was Hades staying in the life and keeping her position. I mean that life is her, she is that life. There’s no way any of them (her or her men, Lucas included) could either live off grid, alone and secluded from life now or as normal people mixed into suburban life. It was the best and only option for them and I would have disappointed at any other end. (hide spoiler)]

3.5-4 stars. I enjoyed this but didn’t love it (which also sums up my feelings about the series as a whole). I had high hopes/expectations for Timber, but for me, it didn’t deliver, which I’m super bummed about🥺, because I think it had so much potential. I really love Hades, Zed, Cass, and Lucas and their relationships. (They’re the main reason for my high rating along with the writing.) I’ll admit I couldn’t really see them together at the beginning of the series and didn’t really buy it. (I thi 3.5-4 stars. I’ll admit I couldn’t really see them together at the beginning of the series and didn’t really buy it. (I think in RH books, I’m just so used to and prefer the guys already being a unit/group/bffs when the FMC is introduced.) But, there was a lot of relationship development in this series, especially in this last book, so now I am 100% on board with their group. Love them together so much! And I loved all of the discussions they had about their future and what that would look like and what each of them wanted. They have so much love and respect for each other, and they truly are a team. I’m glad they got their HEA!❤️ I really liked the writing, which has been the case with all of the Tate James books I’ve read so far (MK and Hades series). The writing is fast paced, easy to digest, and is so well done. The story is driven by dialogue and action, which I love. It’s more “show you not tell you” (yay!🙌🏻) and isn’t heavy on the inner thoughts/dialogue. I also really, really loved and appreciated the cameos MK, Archer, Kody, and Steele made — my favorite (and first) RH group❤️. Was so happy to see them together still doing their thing. 🥰☺️😉I wished there had been a scene or two between MK and Hades, though. Now onto the things I didn’t love😕. My main “complaint” is I wish there had been more action and thrills in this and less smut. The middle parts were somewhat boring for me. And the smut scenes got to be too much. I found myself skimming those and becoming annoyed when another sex scene that didn’t really add anything to the story or characters would pop up. They all started to feel too similar and redundant. Also, with this book and the series as a whole, things weren’t drawn out enough for me. I wanted more suspense and tension. I wasn’t on the edge of my seat with this series. I felt like the conflicts and cliffhangers were resolved too easily and too quickly. The stakes weren’t high enough. I wanted more. I wasn’t as invested in this series as I wanted to be, which I hate, because like I said, there was so much potential. Another thing I didn’t like is I felt Hades never really deals with her trauma. It felt like it was just kind of ignored and brushed over and was “cured” with sex and killing. She never discusses it with anyone or opens up to the guys. Just buries it, which I can understand as being a realistic response, especially since Hades isn’t one to talk about things or be vulnerable in that way. But still, I would have liked to see it handled a bit differently. Also, I found the ending with Chase to be rather anticlimactic and unsatisfying. It was just kind of meh. I was expecting this huge climax and showdown, but then it just never happened. Just kind of fizzled out. And the epilogue about it made me feel a bit iffy, even though Chase was so awful. I think overall with this series, I was expecting and left wanting more. More action. More suspense. More thrills. More tension. More build up. More emotion. More character development for Hades (other than the development that comes from becoming involved with Zed, Cass, and Lucas). I just wanted more, which I’m bummed about. I think if the series had been multiple POV and included the POVs of the MMCs as well as the villain (like the Harlequin Crew series), it would have helped and definitely added to the suspense, tension, and everything I was wanting more of. Including the villain POV I think would have added more of a cat-and-mouse element to the book, which I was really wanting, since we knew who the villain was from the start. Overall, I did enjoy the series, though, and absolutely loved the characters and writing. I can’t wait for the next Shadow Grove series (The Guild)! And I hope there’s more Shadow Grove series to come, because I love all of the side characters in these series!😆 I’m really hoping there will be a RH one with Rex’s boys (yes, please).😉😊🤞🏻🤞🏻

Okay, now for the meat of the thing. This was PHENOMENAL. The character development was outstanding, heartbreaking, smile-inducing, thigh clenching, all the adjectives you could ever think of. Just when I thought I couldn't love these characters anymore, I fell even more in love. They are beautifully flawed, have so much depth, and the love for each other is just heartwarming. I love these 4 so much. The world building of Shadow Grove continues to get more and more intricate and connected and I am here for it! We get to see our favorite MK crew a bit, and even some surprise appearances from the ever mysterious Guild members. Hades and her boys are creative as hell when it comes to dishing out punishment, and I absolutely love it! Bloodthirsty, relentless, yet vulnerable with each other and just divine. We got to meet some new characters that I'm excited to learn a bit more about, and we finally get an explanation for Zeddy Bear's actions. You all know, it's hard to stay mad at that face for too long. TL;DR: This book was stunning and will not disappoint. Read it. Clear your day and just read it. Thank you Tate for the ARC! You spoil me ❤️

TIMBER. How did Tate finish her best series yet? In truly fantastic, action-fuelled, retribution-seeking, banter-filled and super sexy fashion, that’s how! Timber was incredible. I don’t want to give anything away, and so much happens in this book - it’s 800+ pages of awesomeness 🤩. So where do I start. Well, we’re all looking at you, Zed. What TF did you do?!? Can you possibly be redeemed? What if you’re not, and H never gets that party of 4 🥺😭. Lucas is all sorts of gorgeous. A well-adjusted, em TIMBER. How did Tate finish her best series yet? Has Seph grown up since all those revelations in CLUB 22? And most of all…. Will The New Director finally get what’s coming? All I can say is READ THIS BOOK. Fall in love with those main characters, but also fall hard for those side characters. Those who you want to know so much more about. Maybe one day they’ll feature in their own books 🤞🏻🤞🏻. Bravo Tate. HADES has turned out to be my favourite series (and FMC) so far. Happily Tate has announced so many more series to come 😃, so there will be plenty of completion for that top spot in the future. While I wait, I’m off to re-read 🖤.

I am so in love with this series! Tate James never fails. The banter between the men is phenomenal. The relationship each of them have with Hades is pure gold. Hades is one of my all time favorite characters. She is a total badass! I couldn’t have pictured a better ending. Next up…The Guild!
