This is a children's graphic novel, and this is the 6st book in the Narwhal and Jelly series. I have to say I found this cute, but it made me want more. This book was just ok to me. I loved the pictures, but I found the storyline just missing something. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Tundra Books) or author (Ben Clanton) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that. This is a children's graphic novel, and this is the 6st book in the Narwhal and Jelly series. The story is adorable and relatable for kids - what happens when a "school" of fish needs a substitute teacher? Narwhal and Jelly to the rescue, of course! I like that there's an intermission roughly in the middle of the book with a lot of cool factoids about real life fish, birds, waffles (!!) and jellyfish. There's also a couple of page story toward the end of the book (as in the previous books) illustrated in a very different style to differentiate it which reminded me of a similar technique Dav Pilkey uses for cutaway stories inside of his books (as the main characters are drawing or telling another story inside the main story). It's just such an exuberant book. The illustrations are wonderful and the story itself is a lot deeper and more meaningful than the happy bouncy surface would imply. I think this book (and indeed the other books in this series) would make worthwhile reading group or classroom reads for younger readers. The characters are so relatable and real and the fact that they're anthropomorphic makes them more accessible. There are abundant possibilities for many silly voices if reading with a young friend or relative. This would be a great choice for school library acquisition, childminders, school reading circles, families with young kids, and similar situations. I am a huge fan! Five stars. Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

The newest adventure of Narwhal and Jelly has the two friends substitute teaching at fish school when Mr. Blowfish comes down with a cold. This is a colorfully illustrated, graphic novel and is perfect for younger readers. Jelly and Narwhal teach wafflematics, learn while on a scavenger hunt and play an awesome game of tag. Clanton's books are popular in my elementary school library and this will be a welcome addition. I can't wait to have it on my shelf and read it to my K-3 kiddos. Thanks to Netgalley and Tundra publishing for the ARC of this in exchange for my honest review. My daughter (8) and I have been fans of Narwhal and Jelly since she was first learning to read - perfect for fans of Elephant and Piggie, there are short comics about two friends interacting and figuring out how to be good friends and what is going on around them. There are some cute real life facts about sea critters, and Narwhal makes the cutest professor to a school of fish in this installment.

As always, the story is clever and fun, an enjoyable read for emerging readers and those reading the book with younger readers or groups. I like that the story is about positivity, helping, and fun while learning. I also like that I learned a few things, because there were a couple names for animal collectives included that I had not known before. The artwork is consistent with previous installment of this series, and a perfect match to the characters and story. I still recommend this series for those looking for easy readers (particularly to fans of Mo Willems) and this book has encouraged me to continue on with that, and say it a bit louder for those that might not have discovered it yet.

Narwhal and Jelly are back for another fantastic adventure in Narwhal's School of Awesomeness. This is the sixth novel in the collection, and I sincerely cannot recommend this series enough. Yet this school is arguably more entertaining than the land counterpart, as lessons revolve around things such as wafflematics, scavenger hunts, and more. You will never think of a group of fish the same way again! This book actually is educational, funny, and chipper; in a good way. It's a great book to read aloud to kids while showing the pictures, or read alone; for children or playful teens and adults of all ages. 5/5 Stars Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for the preview if this ebook!

The vocabulary alone makes this book educational, and I knew that I was going to give this five stars when I saw the word "indubitably." The fish also learn from Narwhal, gaining new scientific information and mathematical understanding. What Narwhal teaches fits perfectly within the book, instead of feeling like an interruption, and the character interactions are lots of fun. Other reviewers comment that this book seemed somewhat chaotic to them, but it fits with a young reader's interest and attention span, while also providing new information and challenging words that are very clear in context. This is a great book for fans of the series, kids who are interested in animal-related graphic novels, and kids who like to play school. I have been out of school for, well, quite a while now, but I would absolutely attend "Narwhal's School of Awesomeness." In this, Ben Clanton's sixth outing for Narwhal and Jelly, they save the day and become substitute teachers when Mr. Blowfish catches a cold, leaving his fishy scholars adrift. Professor Knowell (Narwhal) schools the fish (sorry, couldn't resist) in WaffleMatics. Who wouldn't love math if it came with waffles and syrup? There's also an exciting science scavenger hunt. One of my favorites in the series! I especially love the school of fish and all their synonyms! And I love the sea facts interspersed in the books. I love me some Narwhal and Jelly. This time they become teachers and go on adventures with a school of fish. The fist are interesting because they are a great way to talk about synonyms. When ever they reply, they do so with a synonym of what the first fish said. This entire series is great. It's a Graphic novel, itโ€™s a chapter book, it's for beginners, and itโ€™s just waffebulous. We love Narwhal and Jelly, and this book was just as good as the others. These books are great for reluctant readers. My son and I read them and each pretend to be one of the characters. I love the format of these books. There is just enough text but not too challenging. These books would be great for second or third grade students.

My daughter and I love Narwhal and Jelly books! I also use them in my pre-k classroom. They are great beginning readers. I love the bold and lively drawings. But I also like that there are easy words and more difficult words for the kids to read. This book is perfect for my more advanced readers who are working beyond sight words. Another great addition to the Narwhal and Jelly series.
