If you are looking for a book of smart science fiction stories, this is it! I loved everything about this book- the artwork at the beginning of each story was a fun added element. All of the stories are great but I really loved They and In Memoriam Machine.

Science fiction I believe is spun in a person’s mind when they are able to visualize a different future or outcome and make it into a story to stretch the imagination. Some of the ideas are not far off! I see that in several of these stories. Grab your copy and enjoy these short stories that will fire your imagination up and get you thinking about what-if’s and alternative outcomes. It’s a brilliant way to exercise your mind while providing entertainment. Enjoy!

These collections of science fiction stories are well written. My favorites were "Coal County Coal" and "The First Martian", I also enjoy "Violent Messengers", not so much the seal scene but it adds realism and reinforces one of the themes of isolation and helplessness found at the beginning of the story, which for that I can understand why it was included. I would give those stories 4 stars. I would give those stories 4 stars. I found "They" to be reminiscent of one of the episodes of the Netflix show "Black Mirror ," another take on the lack of social connection with the rise of social media. However, what made it different was the ending, where one may end with the audience satisfied because the character was able to gain autonomy while the other the character fails to do so and succumbs to the "system" and suffers the consequences but is more a realistic approach. The "Tech Torrent," I enjoyed the premise and would enjoy reading it as a full flush-out novel. "Orchidaceae," "In Memoriam Machine" and " The Ark of the Unknown" were good, but the stories seemed familiar, and expected, so I would give them 3 stars. The "The Enumerator" and "The Hall if Christmas" were okay which I would give 2 stars. Overall some of the stories I enjoyed reading very much to the point I couldn't put it down and the writing was very good especially in "Violent Messengers" and I relished reading "Colfac Country Coal" and the slight mystery aspect of it. Averaging out all the ratings for each individual story I would give this book a 3. However, if I was able to I would give it a 3.5 because I appreciated the afterword the author included. I also love the cover art and the art before each story. Disclosure: I received a free copy from Goodreads giveaway. The review and opinions are my own.
