Music and Mirrors is the second book in Candace Robinson's Cursed Hearts series. I've read most of the author's work to date, consistently enjoying her fine balance and symmetry between young adult and fantasy stories. I've read most of the author's work to date, consistently enjoying her fine balance and symmetry between young adult and fantasy stories. In this series, a charming pair are trapped in a different world, or so we think, due to the power of mirrors and a different dimension. Well... and some music that makes it all happen. What transpires when Lark and Auden disappear from one world and into another... as we were teased about in the first book. Now, Ridley and Leni have our attention, and their troubles are equally dangerous and eye-opening. A piper. A royal family. A baby. Curses. Romance. First love. Last Love. How can it all possibly come together? Through 1980s music. Each chapter is cleverly set to a certain music score the author has selected for our reading pleasure. We know the musician and the song, and hints and clues throughout the chapter come to life with the action, dialog, and narration. The ones you root for initially might not be the favored pair in the end. Oh, if this had an audio background included, how amazing it would be! Robinson is stellar at choosing character names. All the individuals in this series, in particular this book, have such dreamy, wonderful names. Some I've heard of previously. Some of them were new. Kind of like the song selection. I only knew 2 out of every 3 songs but will be listening to the rest tomorrow. Nothing gets you in the mood than a powerful rock or love song that you grew up on... accompanying your literary world. And when Leni or Ridley share their stories, I can't help but feel that immediate connection, one that will help them to win either the game or an individual battle. As always, the story wraps up nice and tidy, but it also leaves much to the imagination. Our 'beloved' royal family is clearly more intriguing that we originally thought, and when a time warp of sorts changes our view, and we see who people really are, the surprises are enormous. I enjoy the balance Robinson brings with chaos and order. In the final chapter / epilogue / wrap-up... however you'd like to call it (depends on the music choice, that's all I'm saying)... the truth comes together... and I must say, I want to go back to the other POV from the first book again to see how the music might evolve as the decade comes to an end.

Candace delivers again. In her first book, Lyrics and Curses, we see Lark and Auden fighting to survive against a curse that will steal their souls. In the sequel, we see the reflection of that story and dive into the other dimension and the real reasons for the curse. The two antagonists, Leni and Ridley are from the dimension on the other side of the mirror, and they have no choice but to fulfill the curse. I loved how music was used as part of the story, as an escape, a distraction, just like the “real world!” Candace Robinson sets the stage and creates a world where friendships and trust are not easily won or encouraged, but determination driven by fear and emotional attachments may save the day, but at what cost? Wonderful characters, vibrant and alive in a fantasy tale filled with heart and even moments of humor! Highly recommended duology! I received a complimentary ARC edition from Candace Robinson! It was alternative dual third person perspective from Leni and Ridley. I loved the chapter headings of songs from 80s and setting of mirror dimension, called Mira, similar and connected to earth dimension. Book started from where the first one ended. Now my complaint of slow start from first book was resolved in this one and I was starting to get some answers to questions I had in first book from the beginning. As the book progressed, we understand the characters, their situation and the world more. What I loved most was Mira and its history, all curse thing- how fillers, prefillers worked, shadows, secrets, how music was so important to all characters and helped them fighting their fears, and characters. Overall, Music & Mirrors was fascinating, vivid and fast paced fantasy with interesting world and more depth to characters. It was a perfect wrap up of Cursed Hearts duology. I loved Lyrics & Curses and this one follows right along with that love. This time you follow Ridley and Leni while you try to save them from even more turmoil. You only get small glimpses of them in L&C so its nice to be able to get to know the ones behind the masks and jackets and understand why things happened the way they did. And of course you get more Auden and Lark which of course we all want! Its still packed full of our 80s vibes to send you down nostalgia way! Like how descriptive the story is; it can be a little much at times, but still cool. The mirror dimension is an interesting setting. It’s also awesome to have a bit more with Lark and Auden! This series has been great; wonderfully unique!

Talk about an amazing follow up to the fantastic Lyrics and Curses! In book 1 of the cursed Hearts series Lark and Auden find themselves stuck in an alternate existence, a place between dimensions where mirrors are a key link between them. But, what about the other side? What about Mira, the dimension of their curse’s origins and of the people who seem to have taken their place on the earth plane??? Well, in Music and Mirrors you get to see what is going on behind the scenes, as well as being thrown into a whole new adventure - from a whole different angle and it’s phenomenal! Leni is a Piper, and she’s forever followed and haunted by the shadows. The very shadows that landed her in the position she’s in, yet she’s kept their existence a secret up until now. I love Leni, her story is one of a kind and her heart is as pure as gold despite the dish she’s been served in her existence in the dimension of Mira. Then there is Ridley, the one who’s destined to become the Mirror Keeper, and the one who holds Leni’s heart. Ridley has been dealt one hell of a lifetime, that is until he and Leni’s fates are intertwined. Their love for one another brings them to making choices that are less than ideal. They wind up back on the earth plane to seek the help of Lark and Auden. This allows the reader back into their lives for a bit which is awesome. I just love Lark! A big fat thanks to the author for providing me a copy in exchange for my honest review, I love love love this story line! The world building of Mira is so cool. If you’ve ever looked into a mirror and wondered what it would be like to have someone peering out at you from the other side from a whole other dimension (don’t lie either, we all have) then you’ll really enjoy the setting of this place. There are twists and tragedies throughout that bring you to the edge of your seat. There’s phenomenal music referencing. They actually USE music throughout in many ways, it’s a pretty cool aspect and adds a lot of life to the book! If you’re yet to dive into book one then do it, you have plenty of time to read it before this one comes out!

So it bring the two couples together as friends. This was a pleasantly surprising ending to the duology!!! I’m dying to read the whole thing over again. Which I probably will do when I get my Music & Mirrors paperback.

“Music & Mirrors” is the second part of the “Cursed Hearts Duology” by Candace Robinson, a heartfelt paranormal romance story, set in the 1980s, blends romance, mystery, and supernatural tropes with the nostalgic feeling of four decades ago. In “Music & Mirrors” we learn what happened after Lark and Auden, disappeared into that other world (Book 1 “Lyrics & Curses”). The main protagonists of this story are Ridley and Leni, who, when we first encounter them, seem to be trapped into another world, through some weird magic working through music and mirrors. Every chapter has its own soundtrack, in the form of a specific musical piece, that, acts as a string of clues and hints to complement the plot. This is a wonderful tale with multiple layers, where even the slightest detail plays a role in the story. This is a book that can be enjoyed over and over (best in conjunction with the first part in the Duology), offering not only a wonderful story, but a very personal experience for any single reader, whose own reactions, memories and responses to the musical score, hints and clues might be different and unique. Candance Robinson makes an incredible job of capturing the atmosphere of the 1980s, mixing cultural tropes, actual lyrics of that time epoch (each of the chapters relates closely to the lyrics of given song), and an accurate description to anchor the story, and adding supernatural elements and classical tales (The Pied Piper of Hamelin comes to mind) to create an unique dark fantasy tale.

In this Pied-Piper-inspired tale, MUSIC AND MIRRORS takes us to the Mirror Dimension for an adventure of a lifetime. This new world comes with royalty and rules that once broken, may lead to horrible deaths. And talking about rule breakers, enter Ridley and Leni, who have recently done so and are doomed. Their last resource is to team up with other two people and embark on an impossible mission: Defeat the royals or suffer a tormentous, slow death. Overall, an excellent read.

In the Music & Mirrors, we jump through the mirror and follow Ridley and Leni. :) Now back home they have to be punished for what happened. But there might be a chance to end it all, but the road there is long and twisty. :) While I still like the first one a little bit more, this one is awesome in its own way. The story dives deep into the characters, seeing the way their world works and getting to know them, I got to understand and care for them (let's just say I wasn't a fan in the first book :)). The world through the mirror is incredibly unique and well build. I was fascinated by how it all words - the worldbuilding is awesome. :) My favorite is the music, how big of a part it has, and how it brings it all together. :) Now that I finished it, I really have to go back, and binge-read both. :) received from author

Music & Mirrors is the love story that you didn't know you needed in your life. I loved getting to know Leni and Ridley, and about their story. Such an amazing book and a great way to finish the duology. Music & Mirrors is the love story that you didn't know you needed in your life. Music & Mirrors is the exciting continuation of Lyrics & Curses and brings back the characters we know and love from the first book. As always, Candace Robinson has taken something she knows and loves, in this case it's 80s music, to create an amazing new fantasy world that's packed with mystery and intrigue. The words and descriptions she uses allow the reader to visualise what the characters are seeing and any questions you may have are answered along the way. I received this as an eARC to read for free in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to the author, Candace Robinson for giving me access. If you are a fan of music from the 80’s this is 💯for you! Candace will have several songs stuck in your head starting on page one! Picking up where we left off in Lyrics and Curses, we follow Leni and Ridley’s side of things. This has more backstory as to why they did what they did in book one and really completes this duology. Candace had me bitting nails with 10% of the story left and so many questions. Thankfully she gave the answers I wanted without making it seemed like a rushed ending.

🎶🎶ONE EXCEPTIONAL JOURNEY🎶🎶 Hopping harlots homer! Candace has this bad boy banging like a cheap screen door, always slamming and jamming breezing through like a churning tempest, choosing a path and blazing the trail, skyrocketing this bombshell to staggering heights. Temperament and ingenuity in each thread you unravel with every page, your lured into this tangled web so snuggly and tight, attentive to the deadly twists and perilous turns unfolding, exposing the soaring ups and agonizing downs, 🎶🎶ONE EXCEPTIONAL JOURNEY🎶🎶 Hopping harlots homer! Temperament and ingenuity in each thread you unravel with every page, your lured into this tangled web so snuggly and tight, attentive to the deadly twists and perilous turns unfolding, exposing the soaring ups and agonizing downs, breathtaking in it's simplicity and inspiring in it's depth, wrapping this jewel up sleek, shiny and tight. Shenanigans, escapades and mishaps rule as broken boundaries and blurred lines solidify as restrictions are wrought and dissolved, secrets are confessed, revelations unveiled and promises made, baring the mischievous quirks and defying bents, breaking down walls and bringing the heat, jetting this bad boy to life brilliantly. The characters are complex, genuine and realistic with traits and qualities that balance and blend, with amazing depth and diversity with enough spice to add an extra kick to the mix. The scenes are abundantly descriptive with colorful details that blend and flow, creating a majestic backdrop so rich and lively it feels as though you're part of the story instead of on the sidelines, feeling everything the characters feel. Remarkable job Candace, thanks for sharing this awesome little gem with us.
