Normally speaking I'm not someone who reads biographies on (contemporary) celebrities, but I gladly made an exception for the man whose music has occupied a special place in my heart since my early highschool years. I still remember the day, three-and-a-half-years ago, when a friend told me the news of Avicii's death. Heartbroken, I slowly came to realize that the "voice" of the music which had gotten me through some tough times and always brought a smile to my face, was gone forever. I was so f Normally speaking I'm not someone who reads biographies on (contemporary) celebrities, but I gladly made an exception for the man whose music has occupied a special place in my heart since my early highschool years. I still remember the day, three-and-a-half-years ago, when a friend told me the news of Avicii's death. Heartbroken, I slowly came to realize that the "voice" of the music which had gotten me through some tough times and always brought a smile to my face, was gone forever. I was so full of questions: "Why did he do it?" "What was going through him?" Etc. This biography answers those burning questions and provides an unprecedented look into the private life and mental/physical struggles of the (perhaps) most influential musician of the 2010's. Tim Bergling (Avicii) was in a lot of ways a tragic figure who, despite his celebrity status and enormous musical talent, was really representative for many members of his generation. Tim had many mental problems and anxieties which were in large part created by the society in which he grew up and (tragically) accelerated during his rise to fame. The struggle with his mental problems drove him into the arms of alcohol and opiates which locked him into a vicious cycle. Perhaps the most tragic part of Tim's life was that his suicide came at a truly unexpected moment, during a time in which he showed real improvements in his mental and physical health. He also devoted more time to his interests outside of music and was planning to start a family. It was a time in which he slowly stopped being Avicii and became Tim. None of us could imagine what kind of existential identity crisis this must have unleashed within him. This highlights the underlying theme of the book. Despite the focus being on Tim's life story and celebrating his life, addiction, mental health issues and suicide also feature prominently in the book. Therein it serves the much needed purpose of removing the taboo of speaking about these issues. On that note I would like to end this review by reminding you all that it's completely okay to struggle with your thoughts, feeling down from time to time, talking to someone about possible mental problems, etc. Remember to give yourself the love you deserve and to keep an eye out for people in your surroundings who might be going through hard times.

This book touched me. I've loved Avicci for a long time so it was almost therapeutic to read this book, his death touched me deeply even if I didn't know him, and after reading this book it finally felt like getting closure on his death, or at least as much closure you can get on someone's passing. It gives an honest and factual view on things, based on factual events and not speculation. You get a sense of who Tim was, and how he made his music and the issues he struggled with mentally. I think he would approve this book himself, it's a well worked trough material that has been given a fair amount of work and revisions. Thank you for writing this book. I'm sure others will find consolation in reading it. ◢ ◤

I think this was a very good read for me. Let me explain why. First, I’m an Avicii fan. I like his music, especially since his groundbreaking Wake Me Up. But besides watching True Stories, I have not invested any time in learning more about Tim’s personal life. So there was a lot of new stuff in here for me. Besides that, the period in which his influence grew, was also a period that I started enjoying electronic music more and more. So a lot of names and periodic notes resonated with me. This book is a perfect fit for the Avicii fan that I am. I learned a few new things about his life. And in some ways I recognise myself in the way he approached projects.

Betyg 3,5.

Hän kuoli kyllä liian varhain ja biisi Lay me down on edelleen aivan aliarvostettu.

Unfortunately, you see what the life of an entertainer can do to a person in this personal and deeply moving autobiography. He was a drug addict very early on in his life, even before his meteoric rise to superstardom. I’ve been through a few suicides and they always cut extremely deep when it comes to someone you care about or look up to. Tim was searching for something to save his soul- money, fame, drugs, meditation- nothing did. This is why I am such a firm believer in Christ and the healing power that comes from faith in Him. Nothing can feed your soul the way the gospel can; I wish Tim could have found Christ so he wouldn’t have made that decision to end his life. Rest In Peace Tim, and may God have mercy on your eternal soul. We were blessed to live on earth with you and will always treasure what you left behind in your music and legacy.

I felt very distressed all the way through it... Especially the last 50 pages... I don't think I can write about this biography in a category of a good book or a bad book, cause it is not only a story about one of the greatest DJ's life and his music career. It is a story about how addiction, mental illnesses sneak into oneself life and slowly, almost unnoticeable, take over all the feelings, thoughts and emotions... How destructive it can be... Very intimate, touching biography...🥺 "I don't want to be seen in this shape I'm in I don't want you to see how depressed I've been, yeah You were never the high one, never wanted to die young I don't want you to see all the scars within" "Freak" by Avicii

Tim is a solid biography, and sheds a light on the confrontation between Avicii and Tim Berling that eventually lead to the end of both characters. You get to learn about Tim descent into a drug fueled endless tour life and how that, eventually, addiction ignited all the obsessive behaviors that eventually lead to Tim Berling's suicide. Even if you are not that into house music, this is a pretty solid piece of non-fiction, one that will make you think about opioid abuse, the duality between the artist and the art, the dance music scene and much more.

Mosesson has a real colorful language in writing. It gives the sense of being in the room with Tim in the situations. Sometimes it gets a bit tedious, but more often a positive understanding of what and why. The mental health issue is probably the big thing we need to tackle in the world as we will be physically healthier and able to treat with medicine. Maybe the covid years is the break that many of our artists needed in order to reflect upon their situation? Enjoyed stopping at the moments son Mosesson has a real colorful language in writing. Overall a strong biography and it’s clear that Tim was one of the great artists just by listening to the songs as a lot of them were hits.

Excellent book uncovering the human being behind Avicii. I grew up listening to his music but didn’t know much about his personal life before watching True Stories, which is a great documentary covering some of the topics in this book. Given that the documentary was so good, I had high expectations for the book. I was impressed to find that Mosesson was able to exceed those expectations; he does a great job opening up the inner world of Tim Bergling in a compelling way. I was profoundly moved by the remarkable life story of Tim Bergling. My heart burst and melted to the floor on several occasions, the passion, intensity, and darkness were overwhelming at times. But the shimmer of love was sprinkled, it seemed, all over the 28 years of Tim's life. I truly believe that he brought meaning to so many people, and his legacy and heart will forever be pumping with us through his music. Oh, and by the way. Tremendous job by the author, who never once stole the show. Eve I was profoundly moved by the remarkable life story of Tim Bergling. 4,5 ⭐️
