Just, wow. Sophie not only gave us an exciting, heart wrenching, and passionate story with The Spy, but she wrapped up the Kingmaker’s series with a neat little bow. I definitely ended this one shedding some bittersweet tears, because yes I already miss the Kingmaker crew. Sophie does a great job closing out everyone’s story, while also giving our Spy and his heroine, Nix, one hell of a story. Here’s the thing about The Spy. The story in this book has been building since probably the first book and we just didn’t know it yet. In The Bully we get The Spy’s POV as a third POV, so we are teased and teased, and now FINALLY we get to know what the heck was going on! So many ah-ha moments in this book. I will warn, that the love story between the Spy and Nix definitely takes a bit of back seat to what the Spy’s overall mission is and all that ensues because of that mission. There’s so much action and excitement and I loved it. I can’t say TOO much about what all goes down because it will spoil it for the reader, but what we are given is what makes this story a 5 star read for me. This book was just entertaining from start to finish and when I was done I still wanted more, because it was that good. I DO however wish we could have gotten just a DASH more of the Spy and Nix. What we did get is AMAZING though, and I almost feel like a jerk for begging for more, but yeah. I fully recognize that this was probably an incredibly difficult book to write because it truly provides us with so many things: a new and unexpected (for the characters) love story, closure for a big group of well loved characters AND side characters, the finale to a four book series, AND so many questions are answered that have been building about the Spy’s story since the very first book. So even though I’m mentioning that I wanted more SpyNix content, I’m also saying that the story stands without it as a 5, because Sophie totally put in the work to make this one amazing. This book just contains SO much, and it was incredibly entertaining. I loved this series and while I’m sad that it’s over, I absolutely CAN NOT wait to see what Sophie gives us next. For now I’ll be reading her back catalog, starting with Ivan 😚🎶 AVAILABLE NOW! *ARC

I also am not afraid to say what I truly feel and give honest reviews to my followers. I did not know how Sophie was going to pull of this story, there was so much up in the air, so many dangling threads and lots of questions to answer and character arcs to pay off. So I was nervous that something might be missed. I am more than happy to say, that is not the case. This book is perfection. I was riveted on every single page and when the pages were running out I was terrified that it was ending. My heart is tiling beating so fast. I can think of few others series, and none off the top of my head that have built a mystery for me in such a compelling way and didn't let me down in any aspect. I cannot WAIT to go back through this series and notice every little piece of work that was done and the bread crumbs that were put in place. Because it is freaking amazing. Do you all even realize the short amount of time this author has been writing? Like.. wow. I can't even dream up a story like this. I will leave it to more talented hands. I was immensely satisfied with who the Spy was. I was amazed by who the 3rd POV was. I was in awe of how the story played out. And I really enjoyed the love story. Which is what this series is all about. Passionate, deep romances. I couldn't have prepared for this couple and I was surprised with how deep my feelings were for them by the end. Because there is a LOT of pieces at play, but I was rooting for them all the way. Anyway, there we are. The end of a journey. The end of a mission. The Happily Ever After. There is no other rating but 6/5 stars for me.

3 STARS Not all predators hunt in the open. This series has been a guilty pleasure for me. I couldn't wait for The Spy to be revealed because I just knew it was going to be crazy. And man, was it. The Spy was a character I fell for immediately. I was desperate for the details to his past and the more that got revealed, the more hooked I became. Nix was a bit of an acquired taste, that admittedly, I just never acquired a taste for. She was...just okaish. She seemed a bit two dimensional. I get her father's story, but she just didn't add up for me. The other thing that lowered my rating was the romance. I hate to admit it, but I just never connected with the romance here. Admittedly, it's something I've experienced with some of the other books I've read from this author. The romance just seems to come out of nowhere, with no real build up. For my tastes anyway. This is entirely a personal tastes thing, so don't take my word as gospel here because I'm clearly in the minority. But for me they just seemed to go from 0 to 60 in the span of a chapter, and considering their history and who they are to each other, I just couldn't wrap my mind around that. Nix's choice in the end was also mind boggling. I just couldn't believe her quick turn face and how easily she forgave and condemned. I have to say my favorite part of the book was the secondary suspense story. Or not really secondary, but one that runs parallel to the romance and has some flashbacks. I lived for these two. All in all, this was an entertaining read, but just not something that I'd come back to or find myself thinking about later. ARC courtesy of author in exchange for an honest review Find me on:

The Spy is exciting, mysterious, intriguing, suspenseful, and action packed! It's full of love of all kinds, heartbreak, longing, passion, and romance!  The friendship and family built over the course of the series between the characters is front and center and one of the most beautiful parts of the story to me. I never wanted it to end! The spy is a character that I've been wondering about since I read The Heir, and I'm so glad we finally got his story. It was completely different from what I thought it was going to be in the best possible way! I loved his dynamic with the heroine, and the forbidden aspect of their relationship. It's always better when it's not allowed, am I right?! Other than that, I don't want to say much about the characters. I went into the story with very little information, and that's the best way to experience it IMO. If you've read the previous books in the series, you know they all contain three POVs, the main couple and a third person that gets to take center stage in a subsequent novel. Because this is the finale, I assumed that would change, but it didn't! The third person's chapters in this one is done in a completely different way though, and it's actually one of my favorite uses of the third point of view in the series. Aside from the hero and heroine's personal and joint storylines, The Spy was the final chapter of this incredible series that I've been obsessed with since the first book landed on my Kindle. Sophie Lark wrapped up everything beautifully. The way she wrote the epilogue was absolute perfection! She's just a brilliant storyteller, and I truly could not have asked for more! New adult and mafia romance fans, this one's for you!

I won’t spoil who he is but GOD he was everything I wanted him to be. Seeing the struggle with his secrets and seeing him develop into the man he was destined to be as a result of this epic love with the heroine was cosmic, predestined. I feel like I have to leave it there. Nix was an interesting heroine, ethereal, nature incarnate. I loved how Sophie Lark described her character and the elemental nature that led to the couple’s connection. She was the perfect match for the hero of this book. While their connection was strong, physically and emotionally, it all kind of happened pretty fast. I didn’t feel like these two fell for each other. It was just there and explosive. Believable but fast. I would have liked for there to be more of them and more build up for them as a couple, BUT there was a lot of plot and subplots to wrap up, which ultimately needed to take precedent. This was a story, too. The suspense, the pieces of the puzzle finally coming together, all the characters we have loved having their roles, character cameos. It is just action packed and thrilling. I loved every single part of the plot, and the epilogue, I WAS DEAD. It was so perfect for this world readers have come to love so much. Even though, I feel like I could stay here forever and would gladly read a million more stories from this world, Sophie gave this world the send off it deserved. Epicness. The Kingmakers was just epic, and the Spy brought it all full circle. This series. The characters. The story-telling. The romances that move mountains. This world has everything I love in a romance, and it will absolutely be one of my favorite series of 2021. I don’t know that I’ll ever move on from this world. ARC

The Spy took us back to Kingmakers with the large cast of characters and it was an explosive and exciting story. The relationship of these characters that was built on lies and deceit and then blossomed into so much more. I was drawn into the encompassing love of the other characters in this book. The connection of friends who come together and support each other no matter what the circumstances is what makes this series addicting and loved so much.

The Spy by Sophie Lark is an absolutely phenomenal story. This series ends with a bang of epic proportions and I loved every single element and the way they all merged together. This author has this uncanny ability to give us characters who are each strong in their own unique ways, and somehow manages to find their perfect match in a way that is completely believable. The relationship between this Hero and his heroine seemed improbable at the beginning, and by the end, their passion was burning the pages. I enjoyed everything about the way their relationship developed and the tension that existed between them was so well written. There was so much going on in this story. The mafia action, the angst, the heartbreaking betrayal, the twists- all of it came together brilliantly. The author has been leaving a trail of breadcrumbs throughout the series about the events and characters of this story, and the way everything came to light had me on the edge of my seat. It's often times hard to keep momentum going throughout a series with different characters, but in this case things just got more heated and more intense with each book. This was mafia romance done right, with just enough suspense and romance to create a thrilling experience for the reader. This is one series that I highly recommend.

Waiting for the perfect opportunity to destroy the Moroz Family. And now the time has come. Nix Moroz is the princess of the family. She knows she has been kept in a bubble and is completely oblivious to the bad deeds of her father. What shocks her is the utter hatred of her family at the kingmakers. That is until one boy offers her solace. The one person who she thinks understands her. Or is it just something she imagines? I have been crazy wondering who the hell is the spy and holy shift, you guys are not ready!! The suspense of this book and the whole story of what is actually happening in the background is amazing. The author even makes us meet a lot of characters from her previous books which made me just crazy! There is nothing I love more than a good story overlap and this one has that perfectly. Nix and her spy have a take which will play with your heartstrings, make you scream and cry and of course the author will make you enjoy every single second of that agony. The ending had me in tears because I just love these characters so much and seeing them all together getting the perfect ending they had deserved, just made me glad! Of course we also kept up with the other characters from Kingmakers, as well as a couple from Lark's previous series. If you haven't read the Underworld books, you definitely should before jumping into this! I was ecstatic to see more Gallos, Griffins, and Wilks and I hope they are featured in future stories because I'm not ready to let go. I'm so happy I discovered these wonderful people and have made connections that hopefully will last for a long time to come. This is more than just reading and I thank Sophie for bringing us together!

I don't want to talk about the characters, because it's basically impossible to do without spoiling anything. But just let me say this - HOLY SHIT OF ALL CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT! I loved them both - to be fair, I already loved the character who played the Spy, but I fell in love with the real him even more. And the heroine of the book was just so fierce, smart and brave! The two of them made a great combination. The Spy is Sophie's most erotic book yet, in my opinion. Just saying... Five huge huge stars! This is definitely one of my top three reads of this year!

Hello!! I really needed to devour this book. I can see that all mystery build up have a fruitful end. The plot was great and the chemistry was fire. I like nix and her straight outward personality while i also hope that it should have been more of her in the book. Also there are multiple pov which represents a clear view of plot with all the mystery going on. I like everything sophie lark write. So i really enjoyed this book. Happy because the series finished with a bang. Happy because everything worked out perfectly. And that’s me right now with The Spy. My soul is happy. And this is the first time I’ve actually listened to the playlist along with the book. I knowwwww Sophie has made it easy in the past by linking the songs in the freaking books, but I still couldn’t be bothered before. But ohmygosh, the playlist…perfection. And don’t even get me started on the epilogue ❤️ Long story long, The Spy is everything. It’s 4:08 AM and I’ll be going to sleep listening to the playlist and dreaming about Russian mermaids. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

After convincing her father to let her go to Kingmakers, she's accepted as an Heir and believes that she truly knows the dark underworld that she's a part of and the role her father plays in it. Nix quickly learns that she's very wrong, and has been more sheltered than she can possibly imagine. Despite one immediate friendship, she's lonely and alone. Isolated as too dark even among the darkest of mafioso children. Even though she's tough AF and motivated to find her place at Kingmakers, she breaks your heart a little. There's so much that you the reader know going into this book that Nix is entirely oblivious too - it all builds to watching her view of reality shatter and watching a strong woman put herself together again in her own image. Once again Sophie writes a woman who is badass in a very unique way, and finds herself as much as she finds love and a future. What I will say about our hero, the Spy: bro is carrying around a lot of guilt and a lot of weight that he puts on himself, and every time he lets go to be himself feels so good. His romance is unintentional but deep. Part of his guilt is surrounding his friendships and his struggle makes you want to give him a hug. Also, the moment when he reveals himself to others was hilarious. The scene before it was ridiculous, and then it just escalated and I loved it. My thoughts on the romance: it's that thing where they can't help but be themselves with each other, because the others sees them for exactly who they are. Nix is the kind of person who would intimidate others based on size and force of personality; it's not even something the hero notices because he's too busy obsessing about everything else about her. Their foreplay is so much fun, and there's nothing like a hero with a boner that he's angry at because he's failing at fighting his attraction. These two DEVOUR each other. Everyone's secrets are finally revealed in this one, not just the identity of the Spy and his huge secrets. What is Miss Robin's secret? Who are Hedeon Gray's parents? And we get a nice wrap up on all of our couples in the epilogues - their future choices, chances, and a last look at their happiness as we say goodbye to Kingmakers. We also get a little bit more of some side characters, who I hope get their own books in the future, or at least somewhere along the interconnected Larkverse we hear that they're doing okay. Can't wait to see what Sophie gives us next!

This entire series has been amazing but this book was the cherry on top! I absolutely do not want to give any spoilers so there won’t be much about the plot here other than it was written perfectly. The twists and turns, like in previous books, are shocking and ones I never saw coming. I love these characters and this entire world and this book ties everything together just as it needed to be. The 4th and final book in the Kingmakers is the icing on the cake. A story of suspense, secrets, revenge, surprises, betrayals, friendships and love. “I would do anything for Nix. I CAN do anything for her. I’m invincible when I’m with her.” 4.5 stars 🌟 I have loved all the books in the Kingmakers series, and The Spy was no exception. Like every other Sophie Lark book I have read, I was captivated by the story and the main couple from beginning to end. Nix and the spy were interesting characters, and I enjoyed watching them together and learning more about them. Before starting this book, I wasn't sure how Sophie Lark would wrap everything up, as so many characters and mysteries have been introduced since The Heir. But she did an amazing job, and I loved how everything fit into Nix and the spy's story. I couldn't have asked for a better ending, especially considering each couple got their own epilogue. I really grew attached to these characters and this universe. The Kingmakers series was action-packed, full of suspense, and had perfect romances. Cat and Dean are still my top favorite couple, which is funny because I absolutely hated Dean in the first book. Hedeon and Cara only had a few scenes together, but I was obsessed with these two, and I can only hope that we see more of them and Sabrina in the future. I can't wait to see what Sophie Lark has planned next, and I will definitely be reading it!

MORE THAN 5 STARS for this book!!! I can’t even put into words the myriad of emotions I’m feeling! The amount of gasps 😱 and deep breaths I had to take while reading because of how emotional and invested I got while reading this series should be a crime lol 😂🥰. Sophie- honestly- you have a way with words and world building that is a testament to how brilliant you are as a writer. Your attention to detail is admirable, and I’m so humbled to be able to read your masterpieces. The book starts off by MORE THAN 5 STARS for this book!!! Sophie- honestly- you have a way with words and world building that is a testament to how brilliant you are as a writer. Your attention to detail is admirable, and I’m so humbled to be able to read your masterpieces. The book starts off by giving us the perspective of the Spy. I have to admit, I got emotional reading that opening chapter. Then, we get Nix’s perspective (the h). Nix has been sheltered all her life. Although she knows the dangerous dealings that her father is in, she doesn’t know everything that he’s involved in. So, he agrees to allowing her to go to Kingmakers to have a chance at attending a “normal” academy (um… but Kingmakers isn’t really a normal academy 😂). She wants to meet new people and make friends, something she doesn’t have at home (you can see this all in the preview that goodreads has). Finally, the Spy’s identity gets revealed. Ever since book 3 came out, I was racking my brain, trying to figure out who the Spy was. I had a few guesses, but I was still surprised. Not only by “who,” but everything that gets revealed! Gahhh!! So many things make sense now! I’m soooo tempted to reread the other books in the series just to continue fitting the pieces of the puzzle. His identity gets revealed early (thank god lol) and then I was GASPING at all the revelations throughout the book! I loooooved the third POV! Gah! Again, it all makes sense! This is why I need to read all of SL’s books!!! Now, if only I could quit my job and family, I would be able to do it lol😂. The chemistry between Nix and The Spy was 🔥. Of course, WE know it’s like enemies-to-lovers, but Nix doesn’t, and enemies-to-lovers is my FAVORITE trope of all time 😉. I loved all the smexy scenes, even the ones from the third POV 🥰🔥🥵😅💦. Jeeezus-I loved how animalistic and passionate they all were 😉🥵. The playlist was PERFECTION yet again 🥰. My mind was BLOWN 🤯while reading! I got so sad finishing the book. The epilogue… god… the epilogue was “Chef’s kiss”. Simply amazing and heartwarming!! I felt that sad feeling in my stomach, like I was saying goodbye to so many friends 😩. I didn’t want it to end 🥺. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! 👏🏻 (Side note) again, like in the previous books in this series, there’s no talk of bc… I don’t want the MCs to use any lol, but I like there to be some talk (some people prefer there not to be any mention of anything)… the H hasn’t been intimate with anyone in LOOOONG time and the h is very inexperienced as well, so I would say, they’re safe against STDs lol. This is my personal preference. If the H was a hoar, then please wrap it up. This H isn’t 🥰👏🏻. ⚠️safety squad⚠️ -no cheating -no owd/omd -it’s mafia- some people get killed

    * 5 KINGMAKER STARS * Sophie Lark ended this series with the biggest bang!! The surprises are like tiny gifts left under the tree that seem never-ending, the Spy himself is everything we'd expect him to be, and Nix as his heroine is his perfect other half. Looking back, it is amazing to realize how she wove each and every story into this fantastic romantic suspense and led us to this phenomenal ending. I haven't read any other NA bully, mafia, suspense series like Kingmakers, and I won't forget it for a long time to come. While I will say that The Spy and Nix are not my favorite couple of the series, I still feel like they were perfect for each other. I just wanted more development of their story together - however, with the storyline that needed to happen, I can see why the author wrote this book this way; and I was equally thrilled with the direction that this book took! There were SO many characters who contributed to this hero & heroine's story, and they all deserved the time and attention they received on the pages to make this book what it was. I loved every second of suspense, passion, and the twists and surprises that were around every corner. I fell for each and every one of these characters, and have my fingers crossed that S Lark will be writing a spin-off or novella for a couple of my favorite side characters (eh hem, Sabrina Gallo). I have completely fallen for the Kingmakers and it will be a favorite series of mine for a long time to come! Well done once again S Lark!!!

Maybe that was my fault? Maybe it was the author’s for setting the bar so high, ergo my expectations so high with The Bully? Because that book was the shit. This one I’m afraid didn’t hit me the way, the way. Nix Moroz was raised by her father following the death of her mother. Her father is overprotective to the point of overbearing. When she turns 18, she decides that she wants to live a little and embark on a journey of self-discovery, and that journey included going to Kingsmaker. Reluctantly her father agrees. When she gets there, her journey is nothing like she expected. The foundations of her life, her father’s life and business are upended by what she discovers there. Having been labelled the social pariah at school, she finds friendship in Ares. Ares has been the quiet one of this friendship group throughout the series. But is his quietness really his nature or is he hiding something? Weighed down by his family’s expectations of him, Ares is angry and tired of the way he’s lived his life the last three years. When the opportunity he’s been waiting for finally presents itself, suddenly revenge is not as easy as he thought. Feelings get involved where they shouldn’t, but family loyalties require sacrifices. Will he follow through with the plan 4 years in the making or will he charter a different path? Let’s start with what I liked. I love Sophie’s writing style. It’s easy to read and I suspect it’s the break-up of text in her books. Its just makes for a better reading experience. I loved the mental and physical strength that was portrayed in Nix. I loved that for a change, the heroin wasn’t soft, prim and proper but was rather a tough and physically strong woman. I loved the twists, turns and shocking reveals throughout the whole story. Now, to what I didn’t like. I really was not convinced of the romance between these two. The chemistry was just not there for me. For some reason I just couldn’t connect with Nix. I really, really didn’t like the incorporation of other characters stories in this story. I felt like it took away from these story as it required jumping in and out of it. Hedeon deserved and should have gotten his own book, so should have Sabrina and Adrik. Squeezing in their stories here just didn’t work for me. But other than that, I really enjoyed the series and im kinda sad to see the end of it.

“Home is the people you love, not a building, not a place.” It’s taken me a few weeks to write this review as I really needed to sit with this one awhile. I also re read it before writing my review too :) I think I had a hard time because if I wrote my review it would mean the Kingmakers journey was finally officially over and I just didn’t want it to end. The Spy was a fantastic book! All of our questions were answered and every mystery was finally revealed. Once I finished it the first time I r “Home is the people you love, not a building, not a place.” It’s taken me a few weeks to write this review as I really needed to sit with this one awhile. The Spy was a fantastic book! All of our questions were answered and every mystery was finally revealed. Once I finished it the first time I re read the entire series again and found even more tiny clues and breadcrumbs from every book that were so carefully crafted into the stories! Now to the good stuff. I’m going to keep this spoiler free for the most part in case you haven’t read it bc I don’t want to reveal anything and wreck the mystery!! The Spy: loved finding out who he was and getting that inside look at what his life had been like. Was VERY satisfied with his identity. I enjoyed seeing him fall for Nix and love her so recklessly. I think one of the reasons he was drawn to her so fiercely (outside of his plans) was that she was his complete opposite in so many ways with his secret life but yet so much the same. She was unapologetically herself, wild and fierce and free, so brutally honest when he still had to live a lie. The Spy also learns who his real friends are and it was a joy to see this. Nix: gosh I loved her!!! I adored the story of her birth and her namesake. Despite who her father was, seeing their relationship was still beautiful, although bittersweet knowing the reality of the man she cared so much for wasn’t entirely true. When her eyes are opened it was truly heart wrenching to watch. I loved that she threw herself into loving the spy and gave him everything of herself so freely. The story: we get to see some amazing action and an unexpected (but epic!) reunion, love stories unfolding, mysteries revealed, and THAT EPILOGUE!!! The book would have been amazing even if it just consisted of the epilogue, it was THAT good!!! We also got to see the rest of Dean’s redemption and little glimpses of him and Cat (the dance at Christmas was once again awesome!). He is still my favorite character so getting to see him continue to evolve was wonderful. By the end he had changed into the man he was always meant to be and it was so good I cried! The scene with him and Leo on the boat was the perfect example of his redemption coming full circle. His epilogue was my favorite of course :) There was one thing I wasn’t hugely enthused about though and that was the lack of real groveling by the spy when the truth comes out to Nix. He really hurt her and in my opinion should have had to go through more to earn her forgiveness (although maybe I’m just comparing their situation to Dean’s from the bully bc his grovel was so satisfying; you really can’t top that!). He does save her life though and we get to see that he loves her so very fiercely so those make up for the lack of groveling. Overall a splendid end to Kingmakers and we see once again that Sophie has the capacity to weave a tale in a way that draws us in and makes us really live it while we read. Well done!! You will be so happy you made the decision to read this series (and if you’re just starting that means you get to read them all with no waiting in between, you lucky thing!). Although technically you could read this as a stand alone why would you want to?! You would miss the amazingness that is Kingmakers and the background clues and other love stories (especially Dean and Cat’s) that set up the Spy so perfectly so do yourself a solid and start from the beginning with the Heir (or if you want to really set yourself up before Kingmakers also read the first 4 of the Underworld before starting as you will see some of those characters again—it’s not 100% necessary bc they can all be standalones but it will make your reading experience that much richer). Happy reading!! :) ❤️

SOPHIE LARK, THE SPY The SPY is the fourth and concluding book in Sophie Lark’s Kingmakers series, which is a second generation series connected to her Brutal Birthright series. The Kingmakers books each feature a different couple, along with a third point of view, but there is an overarching story arc, so the books should be read in order to get the full picture. I include a summary of the first three books in this review (no major spoilers). We are introduced to the Spy in The Bully, Dean and Cat’s book, the third in the series. The Spy has come to Kingmakers under an assumed identity on a secret mission that involves preventing the death of a loved one, who has been kidnapped by the head of the Malina, the Ukrainian mafia, and is being held in an undisclosed location. Meanwhile, the Malina head, Marko Moroz, is extorting the Spy’s family for everything they are worth. When Nix, Marko’s daughter, comes to Kingmakers, the Spy receives another assignment: he is ordered to use his proximity to Nix to manipulate her and gain her trust. “You look as if autumn was a person,” he says, taking one wild red curl between his thumb and index finger. “You look as if the woods came alive.” SOPHIE LARK, THE SPY The red-headed Nix is guileless, blunt, athletic–and an immediate outcast at Kingmakers. Everyone shuns her for her father’s horrifically unethical, murderous practices, which she has been unaware of due to her sheltered upbringing. She’s taken under the wing of Sabrina Gallo, cousin of Leo (The Heir), which helps, but she can still tell that The Spy hates her–even as he is drawn to her. Over time, as they spend more time together, The Spy realizes that the daughter is nothing like the father. In the end, however, he has to choose his family–which means betraying the woman he’s fallen in love with. Nix is the most interesting of the kingmakers heroines. She’s been relatively sheltered, and doesn’t perform as overly feminine, but has zero hangups about her body and is open and confident about expressing her admiration and appreciation for the Spy. She’s the daughter of a celebrated athlete who performed dazzling feats of strength and endurance, and inherited her mother’s love of movement, outdoors, and pushing her body to the limit. The Spy, on the other hand, has been stuck performing in a role that he feels is the opposite of his personality–understated, modest, pacifist, even somewhat meek. Keeping up the pretense for several years, unable to show his true self to anyone, while also terribly worried about being able to rescue his loved one before it is too late, has taken a toll on him, and he is relieved to be able to be himself with Nix. The third POV in the Spy (there’s one in all the Kingmakers stories) is the Spy’s kidnapped loved one. To this point in the series, the third POV chapters have served a future purpose in the overall story arc, foreshadowing and building what is to come. In this one, however, the POV goes back in time and connects to a previous book written by Ms. Lark. As such, these POV chapters are quite detailed and long, and as a result, there are really two parallel stories being told in The Spy. Because of the time devoted to developing the second story, some of the relationship development between the Spy and Nix is alluded to rather than shown, and the ending came across as a little rushed. Although it might be an unpopular opinion, I think that this book should have been a duet–there was just too much story to be squeezed into one standalone (although it IS on the longer side, at 518 pages). And it was a fantastic story that deserved to savor its conclusion. The Kingmakers series has drawn me in from the first book. Kingmakers is like a cross between Hogwarts and Epcot Center for mafiosi–the world’s organized crime families send their children there for college, and they are sorted into divisions for the different positions they will serve (Heirs, Enforcers, Accountants, Spies). The first book, The Heir, is a friends-to-lovers story that follows Leo Gallo and Anna Wilk. There’s a bit of a love triangle with Dean Yenin, who considers Leo his archenemy due to bad blood between their families. In the second book, The Rebel, Miles Griffin, the ultimate hustler, finds a way to save quiet, beautiful Zoe Romero from an arranged marriage with a psychopath, with help from Zoe’s diminutive sister, Cat. Dean figures out what Cat has done and blackmails her to be his slave in the third book, but of course, ends up as hers instead, and figures out how to be a decent human being in the process. In the third book, we are introduced to The Spy, although we are left guessing as to who it is–other than a male student–and what his mission is. Dean and Cat’s book, due to both of their journeys through books 1&2, as well as some truly inspired steamy scenes on Ms. Lark’s part, is the highlight of the series and a true 5 star read. Overall, though, Ms. Lark shows herself to be a talented world-builder and romance author unafraid to try novel approaches, like the third POV, which paid off by making the overarching plot that much richer. The Spy concludes with epilogues for all the couples that show their family development, which does put a lovely period on the series. We also find out what happens to some of the beloved supporting characters, like Hedeon and Sabrina (the latter of whom was a fierce-AF scene-stealer who needed her own book, in my opinion). This series cemented Ms. Lark as one of my favorite authors, and I’m very sad that this series is at an end! I wasn’t ready to leave the Kingmakers world as of yet. But who knows–perhaps she’ll decide she needs a third generation of this growing family!

NOW when this series started I fell in love with Dean, every scene he & Cat are in am like awww they are TOGETHER hot & deadly. And I fell in love with Ares, the mysterious & silent Ares who has a a deadly fist 👊 Now it is FINALLY Ares turn & he has one hell of a fire cracker heroine. Who is a big inspiration to me at the moment because she stands up for herself and she wants to be in top physical health. We get flash backs with Ivan. Which is book 1 of the entire mafia series that Sophie BRILLI NOW when this series started I fell in love with Dean, every scene he & Cat are in am like awww they are TOGETHER hot & deadly. Which is book 1 of the entire mafia series that Sophie BRILLIANTLY created. Everything is linked together and I hope this series will never ended. His brother Dominik makes appearance too ! I love that phone call scene when Ivan send a secret phone call message in....no spoilers Back to the present The Spy we do learn is identity finally and I did not see it coming and Miss Robin either !! Ares we get inside his head finally and there is so much responsibility on his shoulders and his family saying "Loyalty in Blood" He is a strong loyal son & friend and my HEART BROKE when he couldn't talk to Leo as a best friend that he wish he could. He couldn't break his cover and you can feel how torn he is and Nix finally brought him to his knees. Nix she loves water so much and she is not afraid to stand up to her dad, Markor. She broke so many rules under his roof and she fought her father to go to the academy. Thank god she went because she had one hell of adventure their especially, with Ares friend and Sabrina. Ares & Nix are made for each other because both are use to loneliness and mafia ways. When they first got together both characters relaxed around each other especially in nature. Their first kiss is very 🔥🍁🍂 very romantic & rough. Both alpha characters and they both remind me of another couple in this series that makes appearance again. YES YES YES so much happened in this book and my highlight is the flash back with Ivan. Like The Bully I love it when previous characters return because it makes the series more rounded and you get more invested in their families. Currently we are reading their kids stories which are NEVER boring just steamy and suspense action. Them trials at Quartum Bellum is intense action and I felt tired just reading how much action happens on them trails Chay & Hedeon ❤ I hope they would get together and when they danced I was YES !! I smiled alpt on this book especially with all the kick ass couple. Another couple I loved is Sabrina & Ilsa both women are bad ass and we whenthey got together too I was YES another couple to cheer on !! Okay I don't think I spoiled too much ! TRUST me read this series infact the while series from Ivan to The Spy you will not be disappointed. Mafia readers will love this series and they will need a cool down ☆MUST READ & FAV☆
