Batter up! Lauren Blakely hit it out of the park with Scoring With Him (Men of Summer Series Book 1). This addictive m/m romance is going to hit a home run with your heart! Baseball has never been this hot and sweet. I caught a case of the feels from Declan and Grant. That ending hurt like a pop fly that landed in my gut. I can’t wait to see what happens when Winning With Him (Men of Summer Series Book 2) comes out on August 6th

I really loved Declan and Grant. LB's MM stories are absolutely fantastic! They are spicy and emotional and downright beautiful. It's obvious Grant never imagined he would have the opportunity to work with, and fall head over heels for, the fellow player and veteran he'd been crushing on for years. When he does, oh boy do sparks fly! I appreciate that Blakely builds a Utopia of sorts by creating a world where all of pro sports is pretty much fully tolerant and accepting of LGBTQ players. It shows that queer characters can be written with a joyful love. Not all stories have to have the angst of a traumatic past, not that those are invalidated by any means. Grant and Declan's energy and chemistry is electric. Not just physically but also emotionally and intellectually. They connect on so many levels and that's what makes their story so great. I love that it's a 2 part story because they definitely needed more than 1 book.

Grant Blackwood is twenty two years old. He’s always dreamed of playing baseball in the major leagues. His position is catcher. After college he did a season in the minors and has been invited to spring training for the San Francisco Cougars. It’s his dream. He has to blow them away to make the team. Grant didn’t have it easy growing up. In his senior year of high school he finally accepted he was completely gay. And he has chosen to live his life openly, no hiding. He approaches all of life that way, complete honesty. Except one secret he has kept for the last four years. He’s had a huge crush on the short stop of the San Francisco Cougars. Never did he think they’d play on the same time. Until the day he found himself face to face with his every fantasy. Declan Steele is twenty six years old and has been short stop for the Cougars for four years. He’s openly gay but he has strict rules. He only dates during the off season. No distractions during the season. He needs to give his full attention to the game. Declan has also had a rough childhood and also chooses to live his life as a gay man openly. The day he came face to face with their new rookie catcher, he felt the sparks immediately. But he would not break his rules. They were set in stone. Only he hadn’t counted on Grant Blackwood. Especially when Grant admitted he was a virgin, and that he wanted Declan to be his first. So they make some new rules. They would check off a few items on Grant’s sexual bucket list. Then that’s it. No romantic feelings. Just some fun. Only, you know how those things usually work out! These two together were like peanut butter and jelly, like crackers and cheese, well, you get the picture. They were perfect. They were equal in their strength, size, intellect, wit, and everything else. It’s my very favorite kind of couple. Equals in all ways, one doesn’t dominate over the other. Don’t even get me started on their chemistry. It sizzled right off the pages. But Grant’s time at spring training is a make it or break it time. Can he concentrate on the game while sneaking around with Declan at night? And you know their pasts try to sneak in there to mess with them as well. I fell in love with both of these men, so in love. There is a cliffy. I knew that going in. But the next book is coming very soon. I’m okay with that. I need to let these two settle in my heart a little bit. I’ve thought of nothing but them for the last couple of days as I read this. The next book and the finale of Declan and Grant’s story is called Winning With Him. I’ll be first in line when Lauren has it ready! For more about this book and so many others, come and visit me at Carol's Crazy Bookish World. https://www.facebook.com/groups/Carol...

The moment I started reading Scoring With Him I completely fell in love. I fell in love with the story and with Grant and Declan. Their story is emotional, steamy, sweet and I loved the forbidden aspect to it. Grant is a rookie, finally getting his chances of playing in the major leagues. I love that Grant isn’t afraid to be himself with his new team. He is fun and outgoing, but also determined and dedicated. The entire time I felt like I was right there along on the journey with these two. I was laughing, crying, swooning and felt my heart breaking for them. Scoring with Him is book 1 in a duet, so this does end on a cliffhanger. I can’t wait to see where things go with Grant and Declan’s romance. UGH! I’m so annoyed. I actually liked this until literally the last chapter. Pretty sure she (LB) pulled this shit in her last MM book. 😤 I’m almost positive there was no indication in the blurb that this would be a duet when I added it and of course this has a mother effing cliffhanger ending. Like why? Why? UGH LB are you BFFs with Ella Frank or what? That ending was so uncalled for. And so annoying. And so frustrating. Contrived drama just to draw the series out and create a cliffhanger ending. UGH! I’m so annoyed. I actually liked this until literally the last chapter. Their love story spans over 5 years? 🙄 If that’s how long its going to take for them to realize their idiotic ways and quit being idiots? Hell to the NO. Of course that’s after we figure out what happens as a result of the other bit of ridiculousness that happened on the last page of the book. This was a solid 4/4.5 stars for me and now I’m just pissed. Pissed at how it ended and pissed because I liked these guys. I was invested in these guys. I seriously want to put my foot down and not read the next one. Just on principal alone.

"Now rub that beautiful cock against mine, rookie."). 😭 i'm hoping he won't call him that in the next book pls, lmao.

Like right now for example. LOL This is the beginning of Declan and Grant’s journey, and what a beginning this has turned out to be! I’m assuming everyone is aware this is a duet by now and if you weren’t, well, now you are. With duets and trilogies, there’s an expectation of build-up to a crescendo in the story and, more than likely, a cliffhanger that gives the reader reason to pause or awe. Most of the times these cliffhangers are some sort of explosive plot point that leaves the reader blinking. None of that is happening and it is a glorious way to execute this story because the story spans several years. Yes, there is an incident at the end of Scoring With Him some might say is #fuckery run amok, but part of it was predictable and expected so very minor shock value at the cliffhanger. As for the crescendo, not only is the narrative a slow burn execution, but the relationship between Grant and Declan is also a slow burn, deliciously sexy in all the right places romance! I’m probably going about explaining this aspect of Grant & Declan’s journey wrong or not coming across explaining myself correctly but in short, Grant and Declan are still building, and nothing has peaked yet (in my opinion), and it all matches perfectly to their personalities, their circumstances, their backgrounds, just all the things and it is MAGIC!! She is who I attribute to falling in love with sports romances because she includes the sport but also gives you everything beautiful and heartbreaking about the love story between the two MC's and Scoring with Him was no different. Grant & Declan were the culmination of so many beautiful things. They both had pasts that made them alter their future in a way that only someone does when they have experienced past trauma. I say trauma but that means different things to people and they both had to deal with their fair share of it in their own way. A forbidden love that was never supposed to happen leads these two down a path of devastation and heartbreak and yet something beautiful came out of it. When you have never experienced real love and then you get to even if it is brief, you are that much more grateful for it even if it takes you awhile to believe it. This was just a brief glimpse into the start of Declan and Grant's relationship and oh boy that mother f*cking cliffhanger got me entirely even though I knew it was coming. If you read Lauren's blurb for this book, then it will give you everything you need to know about this story and that is enough. Because I refused to read any reviews before I started this book and I went in mostly blind, I found this story much more enjoyable because of it. I felt like I was on the journey with them as they were "falling" and that was magical. The narration was just perfection!! If you have never listened to Jacob Morgan or Teddy Hamilton, then you are missing out but if you have never heard their narration of a story together then you are seriously missing something powerful. While this was dual narration as all the stories, I have read of theirs are it is as if they are playing off of each other and you can feel the emotions radiating off the page and that really enhances the story for me. Winning with Him is book two in the Men of Summer Series where we will get to find out what is in store for Declan & Grant. While I am truly terrified of the outcome because I know it will not be an easy read for them, I am excited to see what is ahead in their journey.

They both know that getting involved is a bad idea, but can they resist their attraction? Lauren Blakely crafts a sizzling hot novel, but more than that she writes an absorbing story about love. It’s hard not to get invested in a couple so charming and charismatic. I loved Declan and Grant equally. I liked Grant’s youthful openness and Declan’s caring heart. Their banter is easy, flirty and fun, their chemistry is electric, the connection they build is so deep that despite the forbidden nature of teammates getting involved, their romance feels inevitable, but so are the obstacles that prevent them from having everything they want. Knowing that this is a two part story, I was certain it would end with a cliffhanger. But I wasn’t expecting the angst and book hangover. Scoring With Him is book #1 of the Men of Summer duet by Lauren Blakely. A sports romance told from both points of view, with maddening cliffhanger. Oh My…that was epic! I was so invested with this novel. Yes it’s a MM book, but most importantly is a love story. It’s a sports romance between two guys that have finally found their “it” person but it’s forbidden because they are on the same team. He has had a crush on the shortstop Declan Steele for a while, but meeting him in person was surreal. I loved how Deck made it easy for Grant to fit in with the team and everyone had good banter with each other. This first book sets up their connection and the obstacles they have in being a couple. There was so much that I loved about this book. Grant and Declan had similar backgrounds which shaped them into the men they are now. They have a good network of family and friends, each having a female bestie. Because Declan is four years older, he is a little more experienced than Grant, who hasn’t gone all the way with a man as yet. I adored his vulnerability sharing that with Deck, and also how Deck takes control and helps him make a list of wants to achieve before they have to end their liaison. There are rules, and two of the most important ones are to not let it affect their game and to not fall in love. Both of them break that rule. This being a duet, you know there’s going to be a cliffhanger, it’s inevitable but it’s a different kind of intense ness. It’s not angsty but an oh crap moment that you’ll be wanting the next installment asap to know all the details and how they subsequently reach their HEA. I have to say, this is a classic LB tale with her ability to write good teasing, quirky humor and some of the hottest intimacy scenes I have read! Hot just doesn’t do them justice! Other words that come to mind…blazing, scorching and sizzling… very apt towards these two coming together. Now I have to wait, hopefully not long, for the second book to see both these amazing men find each other again.

Lauren Blakely has delivered the treat of a lifetime with this gloriously sweet, sexy, beautiful story of Grant and Declan, two baseball players who find themselves falling for one another in a forbidden situation. This story of falling in love for the first time and finding your true self will resonate with readers on many levels. You'll feel the exhilaration of that first kiss and beyond as these two men discover that true love will find you when you least expect it. Grant.....oh how I loved this amazing, gentle soul. He is everything you'd want in a hero and then some. I just wanted to cuddle with this big teddy bear. A beast on the field, off he's a big ol' softie who will completely steal your heart. Declan is no slouch either! He also is a big ol' mush wrapped up in a delicious hunk of a man with a heart of gold. I loved the easy, natural way that they forged their friendship. Their chemistry sparked immediately from the start and continued to grow throughout the story. As their relationship truly began to take hold, I fell madly in love with them as a couple. Every encounter these two had was wickedly delicious. Declan's patience and guidance had me swooning something fierce! The pull between Grant and Declan was magical and I just adored them as a couple. Scoring With Him is just the beginning of Grant and Declan's story. It'll make you laugh, it'll make you cry, and it'll leave you wanting more, more, MORE! There's so much left to their story and I cannot wait to read Winning With Him to find out how their story ends. Ms. Blakely truly delivered a well-written, well-developed addictive story that you won't want to put down. Do not miss this incredible love story! 5 stars

*3.5 stars* I’m not sure yet about this couple. The story seems so unnecessary heavy. Book 2 must give me some release.

5+ stars! I am just sitting here processing. My heart is so invested in the story of Grant and Declan and their spring training fling that kind of gets out of control. I felt all of the tension, passion, and unexpected feelings along with them. I smiled, I laughed, I swooned. My heart hurt for them at times and celebrated at others. These two make a magical combo that made me fall in love with both of them. Grant Blackwood is the rookie catcher hoping to earn his slot on the San Francisco Cougars 5+ stars! Grant Blackwood is the rookie catcher hoping to earn his slot on the San Francisco Cougars during spring training. He is outgoing, a little awkward, and in awe that he is finally making it. He knows he needs to stay focused and meet his goals. And he is well aware he needs to get over the little crush he has on the shortstop, Declan Steele, who also happens to be the other gay player on his new team. But meeting him in person just solidifies the fact that it will be another challenge. Declan is a three-year veteran of the team. He is confident, witty, disciplined, controlled, and private. He plays during the offseason but maintains focus when it is time to get down to business. He never saw the rookie coming. The one that finds his way into his workouts, and starts to get him to open up, and makes him want him when he shouldn't. But these two keep finding themselves giving into the flirting, the attraction, and the sexual tension. A kiss leads to an offer Declan cannot refuse. They have rules, stipulations, and a timeline. All should be fine...just fine... Before they know it they are on a runaway train they cannot seem to stop because not everything is really in their control. Oh, how I loved both Grant and Declan. Each of them has past issues that have shaped them and color their decisions. Grant is more inexperienced, but he is no pushover. He knows what he wants, how he wants it, and is not afraid to push, flirt, talk about it, or act on it. Declan is more jaded and is a man who likes to hold onto iron will control, but Grant has the ability to shatter it. He cracks his defenses, challenges him, and also makes him feel protective. I loved Declan's patience and understanding despite his out-of-control need. They balance each other out and bring out the best in the other. Their chemistry sizzles. Their connection is intense and based on more than just the physical. They are volatile and passionate, but also sweet and tender. Their banter is snappy, flirty, and dirty, but they also actually talk about issues and real things. It feels like they are the right person at the wrong time and in the wrong circumstances. Rules can be necessary, but sometimes they get bent or broken. Sometimes the initial parameters exceed all expectations. They have big goals for their lives and stress, but they also have personal needs as well. But they are also living in a pressure cooker trying to do their best in spring training to keep their slot on the team while also keeping their extra-curricular activities a secret. It is a rollercoaster of emotions and self-discovery that will eventually have to come to a turning point. But which way will it go? This is a heartfelt, witty, passionate, forbidden, teammates and friends-to-lovers M/M romance with two amazing leading men. Both have painful pasts and bright futures. Both have wants and needs, but also know that baseball should be their focus while in their prime. It's about priorities, finding moments, and making the most of situations. But sometimes when rules get broken, someone has to pay the price. Oh my...my heart just stopped as this one ended. Even though we have seen glimpses of these two in some of the other M/F books of this series, it did not make it any less tension-filled or dramatic. It is interesting finding out how much was going on under the radar and their secrets. I am so attached to these guys and wondering where the rest of their story will eventually take them. This book is also filled with old friends and other colorful characters adding depth, support, and some external drama. I would be interested in more with some of these side characters. This story ticked all my boxes with lovable characters, humor, steam, swoon, and angst. I cannot freakin' wait for book two, Winning With Him. Grant is a rookie at spring training, wanting to prove himself and make the roster. He’s worked his whole life for this moment. Declan has been in the majors for a few years and is a star baseball player. He lives his life with a few rules, no dating during the season and no dating teammates. Life is good. When Grant and Declan meet – BAM you can just feel like connection between them, and yes it’s hot and steamy but it isn’t just that, they understand each other and open up to each other and it just steals your heart, at least it did mine. We get to know these guys, understand them and their choices and we get to see their connection grow and develop into something so real and so beautiful. Yes, they are breaking all their seemingly well thought-out rules for keeping casual, but even they can see how special this thing between them is. The push and pull is intense, they are intense! They are passionate and strong and funny and I was rooting for them so hard. And Lauren Blakely threw in a TWIST and I NEED MORE! I am so excited to see what happens next for these two because it’s just so good. Scoring With Him is an absolute must read!

S'ok, I guess. I mean... There's some good dirty talk during the sexy times. *shrugs* I feel like I know how this whole series is going to go, and it probably doesn't need to take 400 pages (the length of this first installment) let alone THREE books to get there. The story is predictable. The characters are predictable AND generic. And this whole "I can't be with a teammate" schtick is so manufactured I can't drum up any enthusiasm for it as a plot driver. Everything's fine.

”Not just any man though. The man I’m pretty sure I’ve inconveniently fallen in love with.” I think this is my favourite Lauren Blakely book ever. They connected on so many levels, not just in the physical aspect and watching their relationship blossom was so beautiful. I’m absolutely obsessed with these two and can’t believe I have to wait for their second book because i need to know what happens now?!? the ending was like a punch to the heart but at least Lauren isn’t making us wait too long for book two. Lauren wins at MM romances! 🖤 also how hot is this cover?! i just want to chant “drop the towel!” 🥵🔥

The moment Lauren Blakely told us about this book I wanted no NEEDED to listen. What an incredible story of love. I loved that this world as our world should be is about love and who you love doesn’t matter in the slightest. I thought Grant was going to be my favorite character but it was actually Declan. He didn’t want to put himself out there but he does for Grant. He might know more about the in terms of the physical but he was more love innocent than Grant and I really enjoyed seeing Declan bloom into love. These two were made for each other and as we see throughout the book they also protect each other too. Oh that ending… I hate cliff-hangers but the way this was done was with HOPE! And we get more from these amazing characters that I just love and want more of. So I can be patient and wait because it means we get more! The narration, I am already a huge fan of Teddy & Jacob but it’s because they really get the characters. It feels like the characters speaking through them. I love when an author gets it when it comes to audio because that means we get the best possible experience we could ever ask for.

3.5 “cliched but still good” stars “I’ve waited years for a guy like you. I can wait all season for you,” he says, his voice stitched with a vulnerability that cracks my heart wide open. “I’ll wait for you, rookie.” What happens when the guy you've had a crush on and idolized since you were a teen becomes your teammate? He's off-limits, but now oh so tantalizingly in reach. You know you can't have him, shouldn't have him and yet he's even hotter in person than your wildest fantasies. That's the conundrum Grant Blackwood finds himself in. Grant Blackwood: Grant is a twenty-two-year old, up-and-coming rookie baseball player. He's off for spring break training with the San Francisco Cougars where his longtime crush, Declan Steele, is the star shortstop. This is his big break and what he's been working for since he was a kid—a chance for a spot as a starting catcher in the MLB. Spring break training with the Cougars gives him as shot to be picked to be on their team. But he needs to focus and can't afford any distractions. Grant is the feisty kid from a small town who’s determined to succeed. He’s positive, open, and slightly awkward in the most adorable way. Declan Steele: Declan is a major star in the MLB and is famous for being driven and his laser focus. Relationships...he doesn’t do them. His only concession is short-term flings with a known expiration date in the off season. Declan’s one ironclad rule is don't date a baseball player. He's never been tempted to break it before he runs into his biggest test yet, Grant. But Declan is also honest and a genuinely good guy. He takes Grant under his wing and shares his experience as a player who knows what it takes to succeed in the Major League. “ Grant,” he says, his tone shifting, full of vulnerability and heat. “It’s driving me absolutely crazy…You and me fucking would be the worst idea ever. And yet I can’t get it out of my head.” Highlights It's a sports romance so you can expect the usual cliches: main characters who overcome troubled backgrounds (Grant's parents were teen parents and he grew up in a volatile home situation, while Declan's father is an alcoholic who is in and out of his life). You've got the inevitable ride or die best friends. And of course, baseball as a motivating passion and anchor in life when everything else is messed up. Both Grant and Declan are out athletes but their coming out experiences were vastly different. Declan came out on his own terms, while Declan was outed in the most public and humiliating way. But they both choose to embrace their identity and it's great to see that they have supportive teammates. The build up in their relationship has so many cute moments. The flirting and banter is great. Their best moments are in their early morning training sessions before the rest of the team is up. I love that Grant is a virgin. His sexual inexperience and subsequent awakening is a running theme. Although Declan and Grant fight their growing attraction, it's a losing battle. And when they finally succumb to the inevitable, sparks fly. The whole virgin having so many "firsts" situation is steamy and emotional. “Say the word, rookie,” he whispers against my lips. “I’ll stop anytime for you.” Then, a few seconds later, he adds in an even softer voice, “I’ll do whatever you want.” I release a breath, relaxing, picturing what I want this to be. “Don’t stop.” A word of warning: there’s a jarring plot twist in the last few pages which leaves things on a cliffhanger. And yes, the cliffie guarantees that I’m going to read the sequel.

I could not get enough of Grant and Declan. So adorable and sweet and frankly, hot AF! They're both very dedicated to their careers, keeping focused on nothing but the game and their goals. Of course that leaves no time for romance, or so they think. From the moment they meet, the flirt game is strong, it's no surprise that they couldn't resist. I mean, their first kiss?
