I was provided a review copy of this book. Alll thoughts are my own. This book was absolutely beautiful. It speaks to the experience of those who leave their homes and immigrate to other places. The main character is left missing the various aspects of her home including her family, her grandmother's store, the food, the culture. Through the beautiful illustrations, there is a constant contrast of her new home in the United States and her previous home. As she reminisces about the various things, places, and people that she misses, the page is split into a "past and present" frame where readers receive the opportunity to visualize her past experiences as well as her current feelings. The illustrations are vivid with beautiful colors closely tying into the words that Sanchez provides. It is clear that even with distance there is lots of love between the main character and her grandmother which gives them an unbreakable bond. This was definitely both a delightful and beautiful picture book to read.

With poetic prose, the experience of homesickness correlated to immigration and power of familial love carries with each page! The spectacular illustrations, full of vibrancy and color beautifully amplify the story of this picture book even more. Simply put, this is such a beautiful story! Rocio's story recounts the vibrant, liveliness of home with memories of her Abuela, her relatives & town in her former hometown in central america. With piñatas, bunelos, treats & tortillas, Rocio reflects on the beautiful sights, smells plus sounds of her home. These pieces of home beautifully intertwine to bring to life the beautiful memories Rocio has with her abuela. Rocio's feelings carry the delightful memories of her Central American town with her tia, cousins, Abuela's inviting store, but also delve into the unmistakable sentiment of missing home. However, when Rocio's birthday arrives, she gets a wonderful surprise from Abuela, with mucho amor! There's that beautiful underlying message woven throughout its pages that the love we have for our family can travel vast distances no matter where we are, which is such a heartwarming message for kids who pick up this book. For Latine readers no matter the age, there's that familiarity with Torres story that makes this read even more special. My heart overflowed with the memories associated with the mention of 'Las Mañanitas' that was surreal with how close to home that smallest detail felt as I read. Found myself utterly captivated with each page of this heartwarming picture book & its truly a beautifully written story that is so full of love! Highly recommend <3

When Rocio moves from Central America to the United States with her parents, she feels a bit homesick. She misses her grandmother along with her stunning handmade piñatas and delicious food. It's a care package from her grandmother full of things from Central America and a picture of her family back home. On the box is a message that says "with lots of love" and it brings tears to Rocio's eyes. WITH LOTS OF LOVE is a novel about immigration and how hard it can be when the children miss their family back home. I can't imagine how difficult it is to pretty much restart your life in a new country and this book symbolizes all of those emotions children feel. The color scheme is a bit dark with the brightness of stars to guide the way to happiness. The overall message teaches children the importance of family and how they'll be with you no matter how far away they are. They're still a part of you along with their love. Final Verdict: WITH LOTS OF LOVE teaches children about immigration and how difficult it can be. It's also a great story for children who are going through a similar situation to let them know it's normal to feel sad and miss their family.

Rocio's family just moved, and she misses everything about her old home, including Abuela. She looks up at the stars, like she used to do with Abuela, and makes a wish on the brightest one. For her birthday the next day, she receives a package from Abuela that includes some of her homemade tortillas and a star piñata, just like the one she wished on the previous night. Even though it seems like moving the family to the United States was a happy choice, you can miss things about your old home, wh Rocio's family just moved, and she misses everything about her old home, including Abuela. Book provided to me by the publisher. Little Rocio recently moved to America, but she can't stop thinking about her grandma and cousins left behind in Central America. On her birthday, it's like her Abuela reads her mind and sends her a pinata to remind her of home, as well as a photograph of the store Rocio loves with her family in front of it. It's a vibrant and loving story about missing your family from far away and pining for the things that bring you comfort-- in our main characters case it was some food (tortillas!) and a pinata but even when a gift box is received the love goes both ways and the grandmother receives the magical thank you kiss from her granddaughter so far away. A vibrantly illustrated picture book about love and family. For any child who’s ever moved and left those they cared about behind, this heartfelt story reminds us that love can bring us together no matter the distance. Highly recommend, and will buy to use with #classroombookaday with my 4/5th grade readers.

Rocio has a new home far from her cousins and her grandmother’s magical store. But there are so many wonderful things to miss from her old life, especially her Abuela. Can a birthday wish make a difference? In the morning a surprise arrives that shows a wish and love can bridge any distance. Beautiful, child centered illustrations elevate this this story.

Sweet story of the love and connection between a granddaughter and her grandmother who are now separated by distance. As an immigrant myself, and having had to move halfway around the world away from my own Lola, it made me tear up.

Rocio now lives in America, but misses her old home and the family she left behind, especially Abuela. This is a beautiful story about moving to a new place showing that love and connection is possible even when there is distance between family members. Illustrations are warm and comforting.

This could be a good one for kids who are missing someone they don’t get to see as often anymore. It shows fond memories of that person, how they can still stay connected, and making new long distance memories together.

Lovely sweet story about a young girl missing her grandmother and remembering her grandmother in her store back in the child’s home country. On the girl’s birthday a special box arrives full of gifts only a grandmother would take time to make and send. Having been the recipient of and then seeing my children the recipients of Nannie’s boxes of homemade goodies, those boxes bring happiness and connection between generations across many cultures.

We all miss home and the things that are familiar when we move, but it's comforting to remember those that love us and the memories that connect us.
