Rather than following a traditional plot or story line, this book has a yoga pose and a positive affirmation on every page. This book talks about attention to breath and yoga poses that can help us when we're not feeling ourselves. I love the positive affirmations in the book and I think it's important for children to foster a loving kindness towards themselves in order to grow into their authentic selves and begin to regulate their thoughts and emotions. I believe that the practice of mindfulness and well-being is very important and can be life changing. I would like to incorporate aspects of well-being and positive psychology into my classroom and I think this book is a fun, age appropriate way to start.

I just got my copy of My Heart Flies Open today and I already love it. It's beautifully illustrated with a child doing a different yoga pose on each page, and each illustration is accompanied by text describing in simple, easy to follow language how to do the pose and words about different ways to be—fierce, light, whole, enough, etc. I’m not much of a book keeper. Books tend to enter my home, be enjoyed, and then pass on to a new reader pretty quickly, but this is one I’ll be keeping to add to I just got my copy of My Heart Flies Open today and I already love it. This book is perfect for a 20-30 minute guided yoga session, a pose or two for a short "move your body" break, and for 2nd-5th graders who might like to try the poses themselves or who would just plain enjoy reading the words and looking pictures to explore on their own.

I received this book as a book giveaway, snd it is wonderful! I work in early childhood education, and this type of book is very important for young children these days! With brightly colored illustrations that clearly depict the various poses, this is an easy book for preschoolers to follow along with, and the words describe their value and emotions- all important for children to hear and think about! Lovely book!

This book is one of acceptance and inclusivity. The goal of this book is to help girls of color feel at peace with their selves and love themselves for who they are. These are important topics to discuss with your younger students.

Words and pictures introduce kids to yoga poses and concepts. A bit long for the preschool set, but it can be adapted for use with them. Geared more towards early elementary age making mindfulness and yoga poses easily and enjoyably accessible.
