5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent book to share with your children! I am a pediatric Physician Assistant and have seen first hand how problems with sleep hygiene affects attention, mood, memory and a host of other issues. This book addresses how to start teaching your children at a young age the importance of sleep hygiene and how it affects every part of your life. The author does an excellent job of presenting this wellness topic. The illustratIons beautifully support the lesson. I would add the importance of consistency on the part of the parents and the need to keep a tight rein on sleep hygiene as the child moves into adolescents (a time when children are often given more freedom while also becoming more engrossed in socialization and electronic devices). This teaching is critically important to every child’s life and I applaud this author’s efforts. It is even more impressive that she includes her daughter in this mission. Goodnight, Leena Was a VERY easy book to read with large colorful pictures and concise informative paragraphs. I downloaded this onto my 10 year olds iPad for her to read as well. This year in 5th grade she started learning about puberty and health. This book is completely age appropriate for a 5th grader; however, it was a little off that the kids in the book were supposed to be third graders. The educational content presented in a more mature manner than I’d expect for 3rd and I don’t know any parents who give their 3rd grade 8 year old a cell phone nor would the kids be having these kind of conversations. Although I had a few minor issues with the story the material is presented well enough for a kid, the information was relatively basic but is a good starter to open up curiosity or just q&a between parents and kids. The end resources are a nice touch for teachers and parents. I will definitely be searching out more be well books!

Topic: Children's Nonfiction Sleep Audience: Elementary school-aged children who need to stop staying up late Goodnight, Leena... Sleep Tight is a third grader's perspective on learning about something in class and then applying it to her life once she deemed it important enough. Leena is a third grader with better things to do than go to sleep early - but she wakes up tired, grumpy, and has an upset stomach. Her teacher, Ms. Day teaches about sleep and its importance for growth and health. This information is great and important, but it felt choppy and forced instead of flowing the way I feel a children's story would be. I wonder how a child would be willing to sit through the entire book or grab for this one again. *I received an advance review copy for free from BookSirens, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.*

What an insightful and beautifully illustrated read this was. The importance of healthy sleeping habits weren't really taught when I was in grade school, so it's great that new generations have books like this to actively encourage them to form the habits early. I also loved the diversity of the characters (Ms. Day's outfits and matching headbands were cute) and I feel that the information given in the story is easy though intriguing enough for kids to want to follow the story. There are so many bedtime books, I'm really excited to find such an exceptional one! This book teaches children the importance of a good night's sleep, so that you can feel happy and well-rested in the morning. The relationships are wholesome, and there is an example of an apology between friends (page 20), as well as emotional awareness. I will definitely read this to my son when he's in third grade. I enjoyed this book and see how it can be helpful. It is well written and good for elementary-age youth. It does a good job talking about the importance of sleep. The story is interesting and creative. The illustrations are beautiful and colorful too. The pictures are beautifully illustrated and the characters are very relatable for children. This is a wonderful book for schools and families.
