Three Shots to the Wind by Sherry Harris is the third book in the cozy Chloe Jackson, Sea Glass Saloon Mystery series. As with most cozy mysteries each book in this series will feature it’s own mystery that is fully solved within the book leaving each to be able to be enjoyed as a standalone if choosing to do so. There is character development that carries over from book to book however for those that enjoy the entire series from the beginning. There is character development that carries over from book to book however for those that enjoy the entire series from the beginning. Chloe Jackson is a children’s librarian from Chicago who made a promise to her best friend when he enlisted in the military. If anything were to happen to him Chloe promised to head to Emerald Cove in the Florida Panhandle to see to it that his grandmother would be OK after his passing. What Chloe didn’t expect was the feisty Vivi Slidell who runs the Sea Glass Saloon. Being far from the elderly grandma Chloe thought she’d find she wasn’t sure of staying on but a promise is a promise. Now Chloe is settling into her life in Emerald Cove and working with Vivi while being part owner in the Sea Glass Saloon when someone starts sending her gifts and a banner attach to a plane passes by declaring love for Chloe. Chloe has no clue who the secret admirer is but is sure it’s not the man she’s dating. The mystery of the secret admirer is solved when Chloe’s ex-fiance is found murdered and it appears he had been trying to win her back so the question Chloe now wants to know is why someone then wanted him dead. I have been following the Chloe Jackson, Sea Glass Saloon Mystery series from the beginning and have found I quite enjoy my time with the series. This one is not the over the top quirky that I’m usually drawn to but there are still some laughs and I do like the characters. It also helps that this series is set in a little beach town which I always enjoy too and of course there’s the fun mystery to solve so I will definitely keep returning to the series. There to greet them are Chloe Jackson, the protagonist—waitress/bartender/co-owner; Vivi Jo Slidell, co-owner and mother of Chloe’s deceased best friend, Boone; and Joaquin—head bartender and all-around likeable guy. In the beginning of book three, the day starts off strange and keeps getting stranger for Chloe until she’s forced to take a break and decides to go for a run. When she encounters local Deputy Biffle investigating a body found floating in a nearby lake area; to her horror, Chloe realizes it’s her ex-fiancé, Perry Franklin, whom she’s had no contact with for over a year. Author Harris pens an amazing tangled web of deceit in a plot that had me in awe at how unscrupulous some people turn out to be. Chloe’s ex-fiancé has a whole different side to him and a life that Chloe had never imagined in her time with him. Now, someone has targeted Chloe and her boyfriend, Rip Barnett, in an attempt to frame them for the murder. There are red herrings galore to try to throw readers off the trail of the real murderer. I found the story fun, with great pacing, and humor, which I always enjoy! I really like this cast of characters and always think of the TV show, Cheers, but in a lovely beach setting! I highly recommend this cozy mystery. I honestly reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and Kensington Publishing. all opinions are my own. Thank you.

I continue to enjoy this series, set in the Florida Panhandle, near where I live. We see recurring characters that are realistic and likable, with a sense of community and closeness. Chloe Jackson inherited part ownership in the Sea Glass Saloon, in Emerald Cove, when her best friend was killed abroad while serving in the military. She and Boone's grandmother Vivi Slidell own the bar and are beginning to get used to each other. She and Boone's grandmother Vivi Slidell own the bar and are beginning to get used to each other. Chloe moved from her librarian job in Chicago to the small town and is loving her new location. She evens has a new love interest on the down low. So, when a banner flies over the area with the words, I love you, Chloe Jackson, she knew it was not Rip. Then flowers and wine arrive, her favorites. And a dinner invitation. Later as she is running on the beach near her home, she sees the police near a dune lake where the body of her ex-fiancé is floating in the water. What is Perry doing in Emerald Cove? She has not seen him in the eighteen months since she broke their engagement. She soon finds that there are different people in town connected to him, even some locals. And he was not the person she knew and had secrets. Lots of suspects to investigate. And her big brothers show up to take care of her. Great setting, characters, and a mystery to solve make this another fun read. I received a complimentary ARC from Kensington Books and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Chloe thinks she is settling into her new life in Emerald Cove, Florida, when she starts to receive a series of mysterious gifts. While she knows they aren’t from her new boyfriend, she isn’t prepared to learn they are from her ex-fiance, Perry Franklin, who is in town for an accounting conference. I love how this book put a twist on the familiar cozy trope of the main character’s ex coming to town to try to win her back. Of course, Perry also wasn’t who Chloe thought he was, and exploring that gives us suspects and motives. I enjoyed following Chloe as she solved the case, and the climax wraps things up nicely. This story also gives Chloe a real chance for growth, which I enjoyed seeing. Additionally, a sub-plot gives some of the supporting characters a chance to grow as well. Sherry Harris is one of my favorite authors, and this book once again shows why. NOTE: I received an ARC of this book. Read my full review at Carstairs Considers.

Chloe's day took a strange twist when a banner declaring "I love you Chloe Jackson" was spotted flying overhead and that was just the beginning of the declarations of love. It turns out it was an unwanted blast from the past but now the bigger problem is the dead body that was discovered near her home. This story has it all. A nice beachside setting, well plotted mystery, a touch of romance, humor and characters to like/characters to dislike. Thanks to Kensington and NetGalley for an ARC. An airplane flying a banner I LOVE YOU CHLOE JACKSON, her favorite flowers, wine, an invitation to a fancy dinner. It couldn’t be, could it? It is! Her ex-fiancé has traveled from Chicago into her new neck of the woods for an accountants’ convention. Does he think he can win her back with a few nice gifts? Before she can find out she finds his dead body in the lake right next to her new home! Grasping a picture of her in his hands! Rocked to her core she faints dead away. When she wakes up she tells Deputy Biffle who the man is setting off a quick interrogation leading to Rip becoming Biffle’s prime suspect. Chloe knows she has no choice. She has to track down a killer but the killer may also be tracking her. I love the characters in this series. Things started out a little prickly between Vivi and Chloe but they are slowly finding their way to owning the Sea Glass Saloon together and even becoming friends. So much so that Vivi has taken quite an interest in Chloe’s private life. Even a dead body doesn’t deter her much. Joaquin and his partner Michael have become true friends to her as well. Even Deputy Biffle is learning to tolerate all her questions even though he may not answer them. I love the relationship between Rip and Chloe, taking things slow and maybe even slower because Chloe’s brothers show up to “protect” her. All these core characters continue to develop at a realistic pace. Vivi and Chloe are still each mourning Boone in their own ways. Grieving takes time and it is different for every individual. I am so happy the author continues to include that in each story. It was a real treat to have Kenny and Randy make a surprise visit being urged by their wives and parents. Their deep-dish pizza dinner meeting with Rip was funny and heartwarming. They really love their little sister. Ms. Harris created a very complex character in her victim. While Perry Franklin was killed off very early in this story his character immerged over the course of the book and he had a whole different side that Chloe never saw. Everyone told her changed after they broke up but she really dodged a bullet when she broke up with him. The mystery of Perry’s death was a complicated one with several suspects. The accountant’s conference brought several people in from the Windy City. Set in Florida it is only proper that the story is full of a ton of red herrings. Each suspect on Chloe’s list could have motive to have shot Perry dead. How many secrets can one man have? The book has a very brisk pace but I did my best to slow it down to try to catch every clue. Even doing that I was kept guessing right up until the exciting reveal. Anytime I open a book by Sherry Harris I know I will be delightfully entertained and that my armchair sleuthing skills will be tested. Three Shots in the Wind did just that. What a fun read! I am very excited for this series to continue. Randy and Kenny have promised to return with their families. That sounds will be like a fantastic good time especially when you mix it with Chloe’s next mystery to solve.

In this entry, Chloe's day started out very strange, with gifts and messages of love being sent to her. When Chloe takes a break from the bar and goes out for a run, her day takes another turn when she finds the body of her ex-fiance, whom she hadn't seen since she left Chicago. With that opening, Ms. Harris gives her reader a mystery that is a tangled web of secrets and deceit. The plot moves along swiftly and with each new suspect, Chloe was able to see a different side of her ex-fiance. However, it seems the real killer has targeted Chloe and Rip trying to frame him for the murder. There is a lot happening to keep the reader on their toes or risk missing a clue that is subtly woven into the story. I also enjoyed meeting Chloe's brothers and hope we get to see more of her family in future stories. As I said in the beginning, Ms. Harris always delivers. This was a fun mystery full of great characters, an interesting plot, and an engaging mystery. I can't wait to see what comes next for Chloe in future installments. I loved catching up with Chloe and the gang and seeing how life in January is for the Emerald cove residents--and visitors. Several interesting visitors came along during the course of the book, two of which helped add some good comic relief to some of the scenes. She's a good mama bear to have on your side, that's for sure! I have a feeling she and Chloe might actually get to be fairly good friends in time. I know she probably intimidates the life out of Chloe as only Vivi can do. (She makes me think of Angela on Falcon Crest lol). All Chloe wanted to do was clear poor Rip of any blame in her ex-fiancé's death. There was a huge assortment of suspects to pick from, but I sure didn't see the whodunit coming! The showdown was exciting and a little tense but just right. I enjoyed the very ending and hope that there'll be many more adventures for Chloe and Rip in future books. Chloe feels more and more at home in the beautiful beach town and with her work and ownership of the saloon. She loves running on the beach, the wind in her hair, and serving drinks to tourists and locals. But her happiness is disrupted when someone starts sending her gifts of all her favorite things, and a flying banner pronouncing their love for her appears in the sunny skies above the saloon. Just when she thinks things can’t worsen, she comes across a body floating facedown near her bungalow. Unfortunately, the body belongs to none other than her ex-fiance, Perry. Worse yet, Rip was seen arguing with the victim shortly before his demise, making him the #1 suspect in Perry’s murder. Fans of this series will love all of the clues left behind for them to find and scrutinize their significance in the plot. Suspects are easy to find and follow as they are hanging out at the saloon and on the beach. It isn’t hard to figure out that many of the suspects had a motive and the opportunity to kill Perry. Why they picked Chloe’s beach to leave the body becomes clear as the evidence stacks up, and fingers are pointing to Chloe and Rip as the culprits. But there is a side of Perry that Chloe had never seen, and she isn’t sure she would have liked that adds to the intrigue. Too many things about him don’t add up, and maybe one of his hidden talents and adventures caught up with him. Tracking down this killer won’t be easy, but Chloe feels it's her duty to get justice for her ex, even if it means putting herself in the line of fire. Three Shots To The Wind is a well-written story with plenty of clues to lead to the killer's unmasking. That is not to say it is easy to find the bad guy, as this story is also complex and filled with deceitful evidence and motives. The saloon and Vivi, who is opening up more to Chloe, play a part in the investigation but the main focus is on the beach itself. Tracking down the killer keeps Chloe and readers on their toes, and there is plenty of action to keep the story moving. Readers will want to run along Florida’s shores while hoping they don’t come across any of their own exes floating on the waves.

Then a body is found floating in the lake next to her home. I thought this was an excellent, really solid continuation to the series. I enjoyed reading the author's wonderful descriptions of the gorgeous beach setting. Emerald Cove sounds fabulous with its strong, vibrant touristy vibe. Sherry Harris has created a delightful set of characters, apart from Chloe herself who I found to be intelligent, funny, caring and smart. I also like Vivi for her spirit and vivacity, and bartender, Joaquin. Chloe's brothers show up in this novel and provide more humour. The writing is fast-paced, and the mystery itself is very well executed, with abundant red herrings and twists to sustain my interest. All in all, a brilliant, witty instalment and I will certainly be returning to Emerald Cove to see what Chloe is getting herself into next. I highly recommend Three Shots to the Wind to those who appreciate well-written cozy mysteries. I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Kensington Books via NetGalley and this review is my unbiased opinion.

Can Chloe clear Rip of the accusations before he’s charged for something he didn’t do and set Perry to rest? She hopes so, and she hopes to do it while remaining on this side with Rip. A great series. I really enjoy Sherry Harris’ work and faithfully read all of her series. She’s that good! If you haven’t read one of her books yet, this is a great way to start. While a series, each one can be read as a standalone, though you’ll want to read the others once you’re done. Settle in and enjoy some warm weather in Florida’s panhandle and throw in a tropical drink and you’re set.

Three Shots to the Wind by Sherry Harris is a great cozy mystery that is the third book in the Chloe Jackson, Sea Glass Saloon Mystery series. I am really liking this series. I have to say that after getting know the character cast and getting some backgrounds and foundations established, this series is really blossoming. I enjoy Chloe, her inner monologues, the general wit, sarcasm, banter, and one-liners. The cheekiness balances out nicely with the murder/mysteries. The Chloe Jackson series just keeps getting better. This time, Chloe's ex-fiance turns up dead, and Chloe finds there was a lot she didn't know about her seemingly mild-mannered ex. Chloe has settled in nicely to her new life in Florida. She's part owner of the Sea Glass Saloon, and is building strong relationships with the residents of Emerald Cove. She's a great character, and her motivations and actions feel real. There's also a good amount of humor. Another winner from Sherry Harris. I love Chloe Jackson, she is an honest, active young woman trying to come to grips with her new world. I love the circle of friends she is growing, and who wouldn't want to live and work on the beach! Out of nowhere Chloe is thrown when all of a sudden romantic gestures, a plane with a banner proclaiming love for her, her favorite flowers and a bottle of her favorite wine show up at the Sea Glass Saloon and they are not from the guy she is currently dating! This is the third book in the series and it doesn’t disappoint. Chloe Jackson is shocked when she finds her ex fiancé dead on the beach. She learns he isn’t who she thought he was. Great book! #ThreeShotstotheWind #NetGalley

This was a great addition to this series. There is a lot going on in the book. I was glad to see that the relationship with Vivi seems to be improving. I had my suspicions about the perpetrator and was close. I will be looking for the next book.

I've really enjoyed the Chloe Jackson Sea Glass Saloon mystery series through the first two books from author Sherry Harris. But I have to say that she really was on fire with THREE SHOTS TO THE WIND, the third book in the series. Chloe is fully settled in to her new life in Florida as she helps run the bar that she co-owns. But things take a turn for the strange when a mysterious banner appears in the sky proclaiming "I LOVE YOU CHLOE JACKSON". While she first suspects it is her boyfriend Rip Barnett, she just as quickly discounts it because they haven't really been dating that long. His denial helps that belief as well. When more gifts for her arrive at the bar, a feeling of dread comes over her as she realizes that all of the items are from her ex-fiancee Perry Franklin. She'd broken off their engagement months prior and had left him behind. Why is he sending her gifts? And why hasn't he just done this in person? The strange gets stranger when she learns he is in Florida at an accountants convention but she doesn't have to go too far to look for him. He's found dead in the waters near Chloe's home! If that wasn't bad enough, Rip becomes the prime suspect with jealousy an apparent motive. Chloe ends up not only trying to clear Rip of suspicion but to find out why Perry had decided to try and win her back. As she digs deeper she starts to learn what her ex-fiancee had been up to since she broke it off with him and it doesn't paint him in a particularly flattering light. But as it looks like Rip is in the clear, why is her business partner Vivi trying to break them up with veiled suggestions that Rip isn't all that he seems? In order to find a murderer, Chloe has to navigate all these disparate threads and unmask the real killer. But can she do so before the killer finishes her off instead? As I said, this was a particularly fun read. The mystery was great thanks to a wide variety of suspects and plausible motives for each one of them. We get to learn a little more about Chloe's now past life in Chicago and why she left it behind. The relationship between her and Rip gets tested but we also learn more about Rip too. Most importantly, despite always trying to figure out just "whodunnit", I was particularly engrossed in the tale that I didn't mind not guessing the killer until the actual reveal came about. THREE SHOTS TO THE WIND amply demonstrates that Sherry Harris has found a great new character to write about and has fully whetted my appetite for more Chloe Jackson mysteries in and around the Sea Glass Saloon. So I raise a toast to the series in the hopes that many more will pick it up because this is a darn good story that should not be ignored!

Chloe Jackson has given up her life as a librarian back in Chicago and moved to Emerald Cove, Florida. It's because of the will her late best friend Boone left, giving her all his worldly goods and part ownership in the bar he owned with his grandmother, Vivi. Her new romance with firefighter Rip Barnett is also starting to heat up, and she's happy at last. But one morning while at the bar, there's a commotion and her friend Joaquin tells her to come outside. Her new romance with firefighter Rip Barnett is also starting to heat up, and she's happy at last. But one morning while at the bar, there's a commotion and her friend Joaquin tells her to come outside. Above them is a plane with a banner reading 'I LOVE YOU CHLOE JACKSON'; and soon after she receives a huge bouquet of her favorite flowers and a magnum of her favorite sparkling wine. At first stumped that anyone would know about the flowers and the wine, she soon realizes that it might just be her ex-fiancé, Perry. But then things go from bad to worse -- floating in the lake near her house is Perry's body -- and he's clutching a photo of her. Stunned and horrified, Chloe has no idea who would want to kill nice, boring Perry. But since there's a video of Perry and Rip having an altercation, Biffle has to list Rip and his number one suspect. Chloe isn't having it, and decides to do some investigating on her own. Then there are the surprises that come Chloe's way -- and I won't list them here because you need to read the book -- but it puts a wrench in Chloe's plans and brings frustration because of Vivi's -- yet Chloe carries on, determined to prove Rip innocent. What follows is an intriguing tale of Chloe trying her best to find and eliminate suspects -- some who have good reason to want Perry dead -- surprises that aren't expected, and a few humorous situations that lighten the book quite a bit. What Chloe also has is plenty of motives that could spur people to kill, including lies, secrets, and jealousy -- but what Chloe also discovers is that sometimes those closest to us can be someone we don't know at all.. In the end, I found the climax interesting and unusual, not to mention a bit unexpected; and it gives the book the final punch it needs to carry through. Ms. Harris gives us a tale that keeps us reading throughout, and we learn more about Chloe and her past, which is a good thing, as it makes her more real than before. I enjoyed this book immensely and await the next in the series (hopefully soon). Highly recommended. I was given an advance copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley but this in no way influenced my review.

This book and series is set on the Florida Panhandle near Destin. The main character is Chloe Jackson who has moved to this area from Chicago. This time Chloe comes upon the body of ex-fiance who is in the area for a convention. Seems like a lot of suspects so that Chloe asks questions of a lot of people. The book was an easy read.
