Those who have read Zarah Detand’s books before, already knows that she is a master of sculpturing and forming relationships between her characters. This book and its relationships isn’t an exception! The love story that unfurls between the two main characters is a slow burn friends to lovers romance, and while they are totally lovable characters you repeatedly find yourself wanting to shove them in to each others arms or hitting them hard since it isn’t always evident to them what they could ha Those who have read Zarah Detand’s books before, already knows that she is a master of sculpturing and forming relationships between her characters. The friendships between the young men (and woman) of this book, are beautifully portrayed and I so wish they were my friends looking out for me and caring for me. In a sense they are because you get to know them and you can’t help but feeling love for Zarah Detand’s characters and they make you return to her books over and over again, always wishing she would write another one!

5 stars - perfect for any slow burn, friends to lovers fans I love Zarah's writing style - as with all her books, I simultaneously wanted to speed through the story and to slow down and savor it - as well as her ability to portray real characters with such depth and to create great slow-burn chemistry between her MCs. Oliver and Jamie in Beautiful Rhythm were a joy to get to know and love as they went from new neighbors to fast & deep friends to lovers, with just the right amount of inner and outer turmoil along the way. The dialogue between them is a big part of the relationship-building - from the funny banter to the hints of vulnerability they gradually share with each other (and with us as well), their conversations are a huge part of what makes the characters and the relationship so believable. The cast of secondary characters, Jamie's and Oliver's friends, are another lovely aspect of this story, each with their own distinct personality. It was fun to see Oliver becoming friends with Jamie's friends and to see them root for the relationship. I adored getting pulled into this story, into Oliver's head, and into his friendship (and then more!) with Jamie; I just gulped down the pages until I was close to the end then slowed waaaay down to make it last, like the last bit of ice cream in the bowl! Slow, slow, slow burn. Oliver and Jamie don't get together until 84% and Jamie has a boyfriend for a large portion of the book. Too much dithering and miscommunication (urgh), not enough romance - although Oliver writing music for/about Jamie was sweet and the subsequent sexy times hot( 2 words "piano" and "bj" 😝). There also wasn't enough time with Oliver and Jamie as an actual couple. So this one didn't work for me sadly. Slow, slow, slow burn. 4 stars. I enjoyed this one quite a lot. It's my second book from the author and everything that I loved about Pull Me Under is here too. The writing, the characters, the feelings, all of it. It's told solely from Oliver's POV. Him and Jamie are sweet, the kind of character that makes you feel warm. The story is quite focused on the relationship development but with it comes Oliver growth, two cute dogs and a group of friends I would love to read more about it. I'm pretty sure I would read any MM 4 stars. I enjoyed this one quite a lot. It's my second book from the author and everything that I loved about Pull Me Under is here too. I'm pretty sure I would read any MM books the author decides to publish. Before I got where this was going, I was sure the problems Jamie and Oliver would face would be of a completely different variant. I normally would hate where it ended up (view spoiler)[it's miscommunication (hide spoiler)] but here it works. Full credit to Detand, who does a beautiful job making the reader believe in the emotions and motivations behind Oliver's actions. My one little niggle with the book is the length. It's very short and I wanted more of our MCs together. It seems (with my gigantic pool of two books, I know) that the author favors the angst of the getting together more than the happiness of it. Which is fine, it's just something I will need to remember so I can't adjust my exceptions next time. Besides that, I loved it. Cheating: (view spoiler)[One quick kiss between our MCs just before Jamie breaks up with the one month old fling, so no, I guess? (hide spoiler)] Love triangle: (view spoiler)[Not really, Jamie dates someone for a while but not enough to make a love triangle at all. (hide spoiler)] Strong homophobia: (view spoiler)[No. (hide spoiler)] Triggers: (view spoiler)[None. (hide spoiler)] HEA: (view spoiler)[Yes. (hide spoiler)]

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. It hurts. It hurts me too much reading this book and to feel how Ollie's feels, I can't stand it. Ollie fall in love with a guy, for the very first time, with his new best friend Jamie but when he realized what he feels, Jamie is already dating someone, name Charley. I can imagine how miserable and hurt Ollie to see Jamie dating another man. But in the end, Jamie confessed that he too fall in love with Ollie but he's afraid. What I really want to know is if Jamie was fucking with Charley or not. It hurts. It hurts me too much reading this book and to feel how Ollie's feels, I can't stand it. It was a nice short read. I liked Jamie’s personality, he is like a sunshine, I want more people like him in my life :) though nothing special about the book, it was just nice. The building of the relationship was believable until the MC realised that he was in love. I mean, yeah, maybe that’s possible to discover in one day that you’re gay and in love, but I think it that was quite abruptly. But what I know?

Good book This is my first time reading a book by this author. I didn't know what to expect, but I enjoyed Ollie and Jay's story. Good book This is my first time reading a book by this author. I didn't know what to expect, but I enjoyed Ollie and Jay's story.
