Tacos are overrated, anyway.

I really enjoyed this! Two gay main characters, actual funny sassiness, a plot that keeps moving, an adorable fluffy monkey as the bad guy.. what more do you want. All told with a sweet sauce of sci-fi pulp satire draped over it. Lovely. (Thanks to Dark Horse Books for providing me with an ARC through Edelweiss)

The tagline is, "Putting the sass in assassin!" but the protagonists are no longer assassins and their level of sass is decidedly low. It's not bad -- the art is fine at least -- but until the otter bonus story in the back it wasn't particularly amusing. Maybe promote the otter to headliner? This was fun, and silly, which I really appreciated. The action was a little hard to follow between issue 3 and 4, but it was a good time. My thoughts on this book are in this wrap up video. The best way to put it is gay assassin's in space getting rid of a fascist dictator. The best way to put it is gay assassin's in space getting rid of a fascist dictator.

Now, they take odd jobs doing dangerous things so they can get paid and eat tacos. They take a highly dangerous job from one of Alex’ old flames to sneak into a fascist country on the planet Antigone and rescue two kids who have been taken as political prisoners. But Bieti, their former employer and a very fluffy monkey, demands his ship back. He follows the two towards Antigone and causes them to crash land, giving up any sort of element of surprise they might have had. Now, they have to escape a high-security prison and break into an even higher-security prison to get the job done. That is, if Max can stop hitting on everything long enough to formulate an escape plan. This is a fun adventure story with a fairly loose plot that focuses more on the innuendos and jokes than anything else. Max is extremely flirtatious towards any male - human or not - which sometimes works to his advantage, but not often. The illustrations are so colorful and invoke feelings of watching The Jetsons that sent me back to my childhood. This is a fast read with sparse details on all characters, but somehow not having a deep-dive on any character doesn't leave you confused, but rather wanting more from what is undoubtedly a colorful cast of folks. Readers shouldn't go into this comic to find something serious and deep - it's mostly just the silly escapades of two skilled people, in a universe where almost no one is straight. Lots of sexual jokes and situations makes this a title better suited for older high school readers. Sara's Rating: 9/10 Suitability Level: Grades 10-12

So much fun. Cheesy, tongue in check 80's style sci-fi with queer characters. Makes my heart happy. So much fun. Cheesy, tongue in check 80's style sci-fi with queer characters. Makes my heart happy.

One of the better gay comics I've read in a while. I wasn't sure if I liked it at the end of the first issue but by the time I turned the last page of issue 4, I found that I was a fan. Read this on Comixology but I plan to buy the hard copy when the collected edition is issued. Worth a second read. Highly recommended for gay comics fans. Happy #pridemonth, y’all! My next #queer read is KILLER ASSASSINS by @davidmbooher with art by @claudiabalboni, from @darkhorsecomics. Max and Alex, super queer reformed assassins, are just trying to make their way in the galaxy (and hide from their former, fluffy-monkey employer). When Alex’s old flame hands them what should be a simple rescue job, they jump at the chance for the money. You know these things are never that simple though. It’s a fun, quick read full of one-liners and plenty of sass. The retro sci-fi pulp vibe is great. The entire creative team is #queer, too, which is a nice touch. Series: Killer Queens #1-4 Rating: 5 stars - I loved it! OMG this was a wonderful queer story. Alex and Max are reformed assassins for hire and also super gay. This was a fun 60’s flair gay sci-fi adventure! Only thing bad I could say about it is that I wish there was already more. Fingers crossed for it getting picked up for another mini-series.
