The Classics Illustrated series is a fabulous way to introduce these classics to younger readers. I read this when I was a child, and eventually made my way to the book and loved it. At 48 pages you get Oliver Twist's story, often told with dialogue and snippets that aren't particularly 'dumbed down', so there is an original Dickensian flavour to enjoy. There is a short bio of Charles Dickens at the end, a timeline of significant events in the years around the publication of the book, themes fro The Classics Illustrated series is a fabulous way to introduce these classics to younger readers. Yes, the original story is of course the best, but this is a terrific alternative for readers who can't get through the book as yet.
