Walt had trouble managing money and had to ask for loans from the bank to finish making a movie. Or when a movie didn’t sell to well he had to try to figure out to make it better. This book is a narration which told the sequence of events in Walt Disney’s life. The book began telling about his childhood and his family. When he was in fifth grade he acted like Abraham Lincoln and recited the Gettysburg Address on Lincoln’s birthday. Walt also enjoyed drawing animals. Through his successes of Mickey Mouse and other animated films he started to become famous. In the midst of his success, he had to overcome many difficulties in order to become the great Walt Disney we know and love. Many years later Walt created an amusement park called Walt Disney World. He wanted to create a new addition called EPCOT. Unfortunately Walt died before it was built. I enjoyed the book because I learned more about Walt Disney than I did before reading this book and it was very well written. I liked that it told of Walt’s struggles through life when trying to achieve his dream. I also liked how it had pictures on a page that went with what was being said and when starting a new chapter. There wasn’t really anything I didn’t like about the book. Also I wouldn’t change anything in the book. The book about Walt Disney isn’t similar to another book I’ve read before.

This is a very well-written, inspirational biography of Walt Disney. It captures his life with all its beauty and struggles. Learning about his journey to becoming the man we know today and creating the world many kids and adults alike enjoy has been very exciting. It was interesting to see the man behind the genius, to see that he too can be flawed, and to recognize that the only thing that can potentially differentiate him from us is his perseverance and willingness to "stick to it" as Roy, his brother, said. This is the first biography that I have ever read and it was a wonderful experience.

This book is kind of hard to rate because parts of the story were boring but it is a real story so not everything had to be exciting. I liked the way the author told the book and I think she did good with adding/ taking away certain details. Walt Disney's story is pretty amazing and I loved learning about it! Barbara's purpose of writing this book was to inform you on Walt Disney's life, mostly his young adult to middle aged years. This book is geared towards people of any age who have a love for reading or just want to learn about an animation icon. In my opinion there is no theme to this book due to it being a biography. But I guess you could say his life had a theme. He had quite a few bad things happen to him yet he never gave up, so I guess you could say a theme is to never give up. This story is written in a narrative format. That is very effective for this story because there was a long span of his life covered in short little time. The story goes in chronological order unlike the Odyssey because that starts in the middle of the action. In my opinion I love this book because I love non-fiction stories. But even if you don't you still will most likely love reading it. Like most stories it starts out slow but picks up speed as it goes on. I will say this I am not a big fan of reading in fact I dislike reading but this book I do have to say I couldn't put it down it was addicting. Its like food for some people once you start you can't stop. I liked learning how Disney wasn't successful from the beginning but it took a while, almost at the end of his life. Barbara Ford did such a good job getting all of the information and putting it together, it seems as though Disney and her were life-long friends. The only thing I dislike is it is not long enough. I would change nothing because this is so well written and is enjoyable to read. This is like no other book I have read. If you have not already I recommend you read this fantastic book.

It was a good narrative it always keeps you entertained but there were some slow moments there always are. Even though are some slow narratives it is one of the better I have read. The book itself is very good like I said slow at some moments the pacing was kind of so-so sometimes it would be slow the other fast had a good theme. I personally liked it the author did a nice job on the biography it was one of the better books I read in the past year or so overall the book was good and able to maybe make me read another book.

He loved to draw but wasn’t allowed to till later in his childhood. Walt became an illustrator for many businesses and started to dive into the world of animation. After a lot of hardships, he eventually opened up his own business of cartoons. It wasn’t long till Mickey Mouse came into the picture and things took off. Walt started full-length animated features. Walt always had a dream of a theme park where adults and children could enjoy a good time together. His dreams soon took into effect and Disneyland was born. Walt Disney’s legacy still lives on in lives now. This book has not been made into a movie yet due to it being a biography. I really enjoyed this book. Walt Disney has always been one of my idols. He did so much with his life and was an amazing person. I really wanted to know some of the things behind him. I wasn’t disappointed at all learning about his life. The book gave a really great description of his life events, significant and not so significant. Non-fiction books aren’t my favorite things to read but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I would read this again if I wanted to.

Beginning with the first animated shorts Walt and Ub Iwerks created and distributed from their Laugh-O-gram Films, Kansas City, Missouri in 1921, Walt was a wild risk taker consistently spending every dime he had on his next project. In 1923 Walt went bankrupt at age 22 and spent his last money on a one way train ticket to Los Angeles to meet up with Roy. Broke and living with his aunt and uncle, Walt sent out a cartoon print he’d kept from Laugh-O-gram to a New York distributor with a bluffing letter stating that he’d moved his staff and equipment to Los Angeles and was ready to produce more shorts for distribution. He got a contract for six more films and went from there. The book names names and details dollar amounts of how much Disney made and spent on ensuing projects which makes for great reading. The book also details the relationship between Roy and Walt, Walt constantly moving to the next big idea with Roy ‘throwing cold water on it’ from their financial standpoint. Of note; Walt Disney died on December 15, 1966, twelve days before I was born. This book is also a good precursor to the iCon book about Steve Jobs that I read last year. 03/20/07.

For a biography this was decent. I would even go as far to say that it was too easy of a read. Looking at some of the other comments made by other readers, I concur that it is written at a low reading level for high-schoolers. It is very factual and there are some pictures in it as well. Overall I was pleased with this book, but wanted a little something extra to challenge me. The author's purpose was to tell the story of Walt Disney's life from a young boy to his adult-hood. Overall I was pleased with this book, but wanted a little something extra to challenge me. The author's purpose was to tell the story of Walt Disney's life from a young boy to his adult-hood. It thoroughly explains in simple writing all of his adventures as a child. Another point that was heavily stressed was the fact that he had multiple failures in his career as an artist. I think that the author was trying to catch people off guard with how many failures that Walt had encountered before he blew up into the legend we all know him as today. Details were often written in negative perspectives throughout the book, and that put the mindset that Disney wasn't always a success into my mind. This book is written as a narration and a little bit of persuasive piece as well. The narration is easy to identify because it is a biography and the author is telling and bringing the reader into those experiences. The persuasiveness comes from the attempts to tell the reader that Disney was not a super star cartoonist from the get-go.

This book would be under biographies. Like it's name, the book is about the Life and successes of Walt Disney. It talks about the difficulties he had with smoking and frustrations, how his characters came to life, the building of Walt Disney World, etc. I gave this book 3 out of 5 stars because although it did show the good parts of the man we've all come to know and love, it also explained some of the bad parts. This is good because it's important to see all sides of people in the media though, This book would be under biographies. Like it's name, the book is about the Life and successes of Walt Disney. Activity-wise, students could develop a time line of certain events, do mini reports on the making of different characters/movies, etc.

I have always loved EVERYTHING Disney, but after reading this book about him, I would have never realized how (sort of) bad of a person he really was. Yes, his dreams came true because of all of the hard work and effort he put into his work, but he treated so many of the people working for him so horribly. I wouldn't have known any of that about him if I hadn't read this book. It's interesting how you can hear nothing but good things about someone until you read a biography about them. "Walt Disney: A Biography" made me realize how talented Walt Disney really was. It was interesting to read how he already knew what he wanted to do as a career since he was in high school. He was a really good cartoon artist and that is how he made one of the greatest and most remembered cartoon: Mickey Mouse. This is great easy read for ages 9-12 years. It talks about Walt Disney's first works and him and his brother working together. NOt only did this biography tell of Walt's accomplishes, it also highlighted his failures as well. I think this is important because it shows that he's human. He didn't give up but kept going and made it into the legend he his today. I would recommend this biography. It is a nice background book in to the life of a legend and the beloved Disney movies.
